First, I want to thank Tim and Armonfire for making this creation a reality finally! I've had this lightsaber design in my head for a loooooong time, and when I recently discovered the TCSS, I redesigned it to fit into the MHS mold, but asked both Tim and Armonfire to make some VERY custom parts for me. YOU GUYS DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB!

Without any further explanation, here are some pics!

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/1748/dsc02414rt1.jpg

My first lightsaber was inspired by the princess Leia lightsaber, my second was an almagam of different saber ideas, but I don't see too many people going for the Qui-Gonn look, so I went to designing a lightsaber with that in mind. I call it Lux Aeterna which means eternal light, and it is heavily inspired by Qui-Gonn Jinn's lightsaber.

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5863/dsc02415ey6.jpg

I had Tim custom machine me a grip that I wanted to be different but still reminded me of Qui-Gonn's with a little Obi ep1 tossed in. Tim did a great job with my crude photoshop drawing, it looks GREAT :) When I first got the piece in I was amazed on what a great job he did on the grip, THANKS TIM!

http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/227/dsc02418nt0.jpg

I worked with Armonfire on refining a custom shroud that slides over the saber, and let me tell you, I sent him a crude CRUDE drawing and he was able to machine out a BEAUTIFUL piece of work! His work on the waves and measurements I gave him are FLAWLESS!

These are still a work in progress though. My original design had LED's inside the waves near the emitter but seeing Armonfire's great design, I think LED's in there would take away from the look. I also am planning to put some sort of engraving on the blank spot near the emitter between the waves.

No electronics yet, i'm hoping to get a CF in each of them, and I'm thinking purple blade myself. Maybe blue.

I want to thank both Tim and Armonfire again! I know I bombarded them with questions and changed my mind a couple times on certain design aspects, but both of them were very accommodating and extremely helpful, thanks again guys!
Hope you guys enjoyed the pics :)

Ok, so I read your little blurb at the beginning and after hearing that Tim and Arm both worked on this I was all tingly in the pants with excitement...

Then I scrolled down...OMG thats an amazingly beautiful saber!!

Then I scrolled some more....OMFG theres 2 of them!!!!

Then I scrolled some more....At least they don't connect to form a staff cause that would just be RIDICULOUS!!

Then I scrolled some more....NO FUDGING WAY!!!! THEY DO CONNECT!!!!

Then I passed out....

Then I scrolled some more, a little up, then back down, then back up, then back down....This thing is incredible, like WOW!!!! Great job designing this, it's really something to be proud of and huge KUDOS to Tim and Arm for there amazing craftsmanship. If I had CF's I would give them to you because they are must haves for this saber!

I'm gonna go do some more scrolling!

AoF, does indeed do some great work.. always fawless liek you say.. and just a treat to work with.. great customer service too...

on a side note.. When are we gonna see the WINNING DESIGN AoF did from the contest? ;)

how thick is the sleeve? I cant stress enough how much I think custom sleeves would be a huge HIT if they were offered in the store...

That is just insanity.

I would like to express alotta "HOLY CRAP!?!?!!!!" over that saber. That is darn close to the coolest saber/staff/sabers I have ever seen.

It isn't often that I get blown away over designs like I am right now. All three of you guys deserve some serious geeky craftsman respect and appreciation. Sabers like this are what keep this hobby going for the rest of us geeky craftsman.

Gentlemen, I salute you!

Those are an example of the kind of art this hobby can create. Stunning work.

I look forward to one day seeing pictures of these lit up. For some reason, I picture them with white blades rather than with a color, don't know why.

This is really the most desirable sabers i've seen.
Great job on the sleeves, the waves are so smooth! I wonder how it was machined to get this result.

I want one like that!

Yeah, I guess those are pretty nice if you actually like things like: quality workmanship, elegant design, a nice combination of recognizable inspiration and owner's personality, and a vast sense of pride and accomplishment. Yeah I guess it's pretty sweet...lol... It was like saber porn, girl-on-girl since there was two of them...

Randy- (AoF)

can you tell us more about the sleeves? thickness? can you make/get thinnier wall thickness?

Darth_DevilGuy
08-07-2008, 10:04 AM
the shroud looks like the aluminum tubing from online metals, it's thicker than sinktub having a .125" thickness.

Thanks for all the kind words! It was a blast to make these :)

To answer some of the questions, i thought it was a little thick at first, but it really grew on me, i like the added depth the sheath gives :)
At it's thickest parts, the ends, it is 1.7 inches. The grip area isn't bad at 1.55 inches, so it's still comfy to hold :)

Thickness is roughly 0.1 inches.

Randy can make it whatever thickness you want! His work is fantastic so as long as you know the size, he can make it for you :)

How does the coupler work? I saw AoF's last dual/staff saber had a biscuit+thumbscrew setup... this doesn't look like it has that. How does this one attach?

Hey Neptune, I'm glad to see that you could make that cover for your saber. I do regret that I couldn't help you in designing it, but I am glad that it turned out so great. When I first saw the design when you sent it to me, I was floored. My first thought was "how am I going to make this?!" as the ways I could do it in sketchup raced through my head.

However, as much as I couldn't help you, you did find someone who could, and that being said, I'm glad you could. Because only a design like this could be churned out by people with some of the best skills with this. And this design deserved such awesome skills as only the best could provide!

I'm glad to finally see the whole design this was a part of and I must say, holy crap. Neptune you've come up with something original and creative, something that has the gears in my head turning away right now wanting to make a saber. I think some of the best work is the work that inspires you to be just as creative and original.

Arm, I'm glad you could help Neptune create this masterpiece. You inspire me more to get the skills I want to be able to make sabers like this.

Unlike other young people of today, I have the strange notion that someone showing better skills than you should not cause you to be jealous, or envious, only inspired to do better yourself.

Arm I think you've outdone yourself. Congratulations. And Tim, you did a fantastic job as well. But I think Neptune deserves a heap of credit as well, he designed this work of beauty. And I'm finally glad to see the saber that this part I was asked to help create months ago is a part of.

Neptune, if I was in front of you, I'd be clapping.

Inspired and thankful,
Maverick

That's a very cool view on life Maverick. I'm assistant manager of a commission based company, and I remember once I was telling one of my employees what a great job he was doing, and he kept asking what he could improve. I told him " I can't really think of anything, you're the better then anyone else here" and he told me that sure, he was better then some people, but you never compare yourself to people who are worse then you, no matter how good you are, you should always look to the people who still do better then you to see what you can improve.

That's always stuck with me, and I try to keep myself in that mindset as well :O) your comment just reminds me of that.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, I'm glad you guys like it :) I don't have anything special for the coupler, I'm just using a mr maul style coupler, ala the double male connecter with holes in it. There hasn't been any real elegant way of connecting 2 sabers yet that I really like, so I'm sticking to old fashioned way :) Also, a side question, I wanted to stick some pictures in the gallery but wasn't sure where this would go? Custom Sabers? MHS Sabers? TCSS Custom work?

I'm really not sure where you would put it. That's a good question. *ponders*

Those are 2 (1?) incredible sabers. Probably the best design I've yet seen as a finished product, that looks like it could hold up. Having worked with Armonfire for my first custom, I can easily say he's very professional, and does work that is wowing everyone in the saber community. Congrats on your awesome pieces! Cant wait to see them with electronics in!

Very nice!

What is the black grip material made from? Is it powder coated aluminum, or something else?

I prefer the ' i'm so jealous, I could choke!!!' Section.

That's where these belong!!!!!!!

I do hope you never duel with them!!

Tim, if Arm could mass produce those outer pieces, how about stocking it!!?!!!!
