I know that there are some color changing topics here and even one with the Lux LED; however, I have this light in my hot tub and was wondering what you more experienced builder thought about it…

It plugs right into a typical 194 automotive light socket with a 12v power source (that may be a problem right there) and is controlled by toggling it on and off.)

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">10 lighting modes:
White; Spectrum Slow Dance: fade through all colors; Sunburst: yellow and orange glow; Blue; Red; Green; Magenta: pink, blue, red glow; Tidal Fade: blue and green fade; Afterburner Fade: red, orange, pink, yellow, purple fade; Color Burst: strobe effect change through all colors

Note: Not for spas with dimming systems. 24 ultra-bright LEDs rated to last for over 100,000 hours.

(Sorry, I can't get the demonstration to transfer from the other sight, and I don't want to post a link to the store W/O Tim's approval.)

It’s pretty bright in my tub, and mine has only 9 LEDs but I don’t know what it will do in a saber. But rest assured I WILL be trying it! lol
The dimensions of mine are aprx. 1 1/4"W X 3/4"H

Sounds like an interesting concept but I would worry about heat. 12 volts is 12 volts so that is not a big deal, but those units are designed to be under water which is part of the heat transfer process. I have one that I use at Halloween and when it is not in the punch it gets way hot which would not be good for the cofinement of a hilt with no air movement.

This attaches to the outside of the tub. But it has plenty of air flow being 1 1/2" from the tub wall and the socket lookes to be for air flow. So, yeah, heat may be an issue.

Just going to have to add functional vents to it. Maybe a small PC fan too! lol

Tell you what... It's plugged in in my celler (Long story, and involves ice[V]) I will go turn it on for a 1/2hr. and let you know how hot it gets.

After 1/2 and hour, the light is luke warm at best. I would suspect that it would get warm in a hilt, but I don't think anybody is going to have it on long enough for heat to be a real issue.

Good to know. I guess the only other issue may be cost. I could pretty much get a whole TCSS MHS kit for what the hot tub led cost me and with the white LED and discs plus imagination I can get ALOT of colors. I just couldn't do the cool effects. I know there has been some talk on here about the RBG LEDs but I am still waiting to see how the battery consumption goes since my primary dualing partner can go at it for over an hour easy non-stop. Oh to be 6 years old again[:)]

Yes, how long you have it on is a big issue. The sabers I sell on ebay I designed my heatsink to work for quite a while but most people don't run sabers for more than 10 min.

Is that your lightsaber or are you happy to see me?

WOW! 10 minutes huh? My boy would say that is just a brief warm up to get loosened up. Fiesty little booger too thank the lord he can't do all those hop and flip tricks like Yoda or I would be up the creek.[:)]

but if your kid could do flips and such like yoda, then the chinese circus pays well for involuntary servitude... Just kidding but gymnastics really are grand to watch eh, and combine it with a light saber, that's what makes the movies we all enjoy

lol-you are right on with the gymnastics, I just sit there in awe wondering how those people do it. Big time physical conditioning.

Ha. Once I was at a friend's house, and we were just starting to rest from dueling for about 20 minutes or so. I said "hey, let's go fight some more!!" He replied "AAAUUGGGHHH!!!! You're too active to be a geek or a nerd!!"

I thought mine was a rip @ $25 just one year ago... But now it looks like the going rate for that same one is about $35-$40!
