So, I've finally finished my first 100% solo conversion. This is the first saber that I've done besides the MHS kit, so I'm still sketchy on the details, and I have a couple of questions about it.

1. Was I supposed to thread the screw through the plastic? Its seems like when using the stock holder, that it'd be wise to try to helicoil a section, rather than threading the plastic. It'd be alot stronger.

2. How deep do you guys install the LED's and optics? Mine are pretty deep in the hilt (pics below). Its about halfway between the big button, and the mock clamp.

3. What is typically used as a heat sink? I used an alloy bolt, and mocked Tim's heat sink, by putting the bolt through a plastic 2-liter bottle cap, and boring a hole in the bottle cap on each side of it for the wires. It secures the LED/heat sink from sliding down the blade holder. Then, I made an 'optics protector' from a toilet paper roll, and some electrical tape. Its hot glued, and taped, to the homemade heat sink/cap and stops the blade from touching the optics, as well as it fills the space between the optics and inner wall of the blade holder.

Everything seems pretty secure, but I just want the skinny from everyone else that has converted using the stock parts. Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Shawn

one question tho, cool ideas there, but why not wait for tims holders for this saber and swap the whole end out for a far better setup.

You dont know the POWER, of the dark side...

Man that looks like the mine!. I did one kinda sorta like that. Here's what i did. Used the stock MR holder; cut the bottom and used an aluminum water hose cap to mount the lux. that's the only heat sink it's got(wanted to see how tough these things are i havn't blown it yet. for the set screw i went to the local Harly shop and found one a little longer with same size and thread as the original. I ran it with no optics for a while till i got some and it's still working. i am intrested on how long with out heat sinking it. We'll see

I didn't wait for Tims holder, because I have a NIB Ani waiting right here just for that particular mod/service.

This saber has some chipped parts from me being clumsy, and just not being careful enough when I took everything apart. As well as its missing the the press fit piece from the top. I knocked it loose when I was learning saber spins. So, after all of my destruction, this one is going to be given away to my cousins son. He's really into saber spinning, but only has Hasbro's... I think that this will really make his day. [;)]

As for the placement of my set screw... Well, its there because I chipped the hole during disassembly, and it was pretty ugly. When the set screw is screwed in, you can barely tell at a glance that its not the original pin.

Now, about the optics and such... What I did is pretty much the norm? Or is there no norm?

Right on good job, yeah I did the same thing I couldn't wait for tims conversion kit either.
