So, I've finally finished my first 100% solo conversion. This is the first saber that I've done besides the MHS kit, so I'm still sketchy on the details, and I have a couple of questions about it.
1. Was I supposed to thread the screw through the plastic? Its seems like when using the stock holder, that it'd be wise to try to helicoil a section, rather than threading the plastic. It'd be alot stronger.
2. How deep do you guys install the LED's and optics? Mine are pretty deep in the hilt (pics below). Its about halfway between the big button, and the mock clamp.
3. What is typically used as a heat sink? I used an alloy bolt, and mocked Tim's heat sink, by putting the bolt through a plastic 2-liter bottle cap, and boring a hole in the bottle cap on each side of it for the wires. It secures the LED/heat sink from sliding down the blade holder. Then, I made an 'optics protector' from a toilet paper roll, and some electrical tape. Its hot glued, and taped, to the homemade heat sink/cap and stops the blade from touching the optics, as well as it fills the space between the optics and inner wall of the blade holder.
Everything seems pretty secure, but I just want the skinny from everyone else that has converted using the stock parts. Any info will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Shawn
