I got this off the MHS kit item page:

LED Modular Hilt System starter kit includes:Hilt style 1
Pommel style 1
LED/Blade holder style 1
2.2ohm Resistor
Luxeon III 3w
10 degree Lens and holder
Switch03
4AAA battery holder
Blade not included

What about the heatsink, screws, and blade holder screw?

Oh, and keep in mind, when I get this info, I'll put in my order ASAP. So the faster someone can answer, the faster Tim gets richer... [:D]

The emitter on the MHS is the heatsink so that is covered. You may want to add thermal compound between the LED and heatsink but as I understand it is not a requirement. The basic MHS kit does not need any screws to assemble it other than a thumb screw for the blade which I believe does not come with the kit. If you are adding your own custom work to the MHS then you may need screws but since it is custom I cant realy advise you on what kind you need.

What about the heatsink - part of the blade/led holder
screws - for mounting the led? comes with it
blade holder screw - not included do to choices.

Ah... now I see. The Blade Holder comes in two parts... Cool, thanks. I'll get to work on ordering immediately.

Yeah, look at the cut-away view in the wiring/diagram forum. The heatsink portion is sandwiched between the main portion of the blade holder and the main modular piece. So until it's tightened all the way it's "floating" meaning the wires won't twist inside. Pretty sweet, right?[:D]

Yeah. So if I get the MHS hilt kit, I just need to get the quick connect wire, not the entire kit?

xwingband
03-02-2006, 04:42 PM
Yeah, you could get the quick connect wire if you wanted to be able to pull the LED away from the electronics instead of taking all of it out at once. It might prove to be a convenience later but it's not a must need thing, like your saber can't be built without it sort of part.

I don't wanna have to be stuck with a Royal Blue blade all the time (though it does look the best [:D]).

Looking at the cut-away and the tutorial and am a little confused about one point. Is there something that will hold the led mount in place once the blade holder is screwed in aside from the wiring underneath? Is there a lip or something it rests on once put into the hilt? Am planning on attempting my first project pretty soon and that's one (of the many) things that I am not too sure about at this time. Thank you in advance for the help.

Yes, the heatsink portion of the blade holder has two nylon screws to hold the LED down. Then that portion itself is sandwiched between the blade holder and the main modular piece.

Just wanna add to this:

You can now get everything you need with the MHS builder.

All the hilt pieces, the basic electronics, and sound if you want.

Tim also offers a drill and tap with a thumbscrew for a small additional fee!

I did the same thing when I came on. It makes it easier when you know you have already read something and a question comes up[;)]

I have been keeping a eye on it from the get go so I reckon that makes it easier but really, if your not lookin to do a Vader costume then there really isn't much point to go in there since that really is those guys place on here. It has gotten huge that is for sure so if there is anyone you know who wants to do a Vader you know where to send them[;)]
I pretty much just dream about doing a Vader, it is very time consuming and expensive.

aren't the rubies supreme editions like 6-700$ [?]

At last we will reveal ourselves to the jedi, at last we will have revenge.

xwingband
07-20-2006, 04:12 PM
Yes, but if you read the thread you'll understand two things. 1) The Rubies darn near sucks. It's okay, but some things like the helmet are noticably out of wack. 2) All of them started with the Rubies but I don't think any of them are stock anymore.

I felt a disturbance in the force. Darth Vader is no easy costume to do you can start with a Rubies Supreme costume and then begin to upgrade the parts or you can put your own costume together either way be prepared to spend money to get things right. But this is true of almost any costume that is done right. Propably the least expensive costume to do is a Jedi costume but even with that you can run into several hundred dollars getting the look right.

Well said Do-Clo, I have between three and four hundred in my Jedi costume and I still use work boots. The basic boots are around 60 bucks and from there you can spend hundreds for good leather boots. Keep in mind that it is not to hard to do that with any leather boots and I won't even get in to the belts.

The fun part with boots for me is finding boots that will fit my calf properly, I am left needing to get a set made and that isn't cheap motorcowboy.com makes boots for a custom fit and Vader boots are over $300.00

They really do.

The thing is you can do most costumes for a decent price and it would work for halloween or just playing around with the kids but when you start going to conventions and things of that sort then your costume needs to be taken to a whole other level. Yes I agree it stinks but it is what it is.

I did my first Luke costume with a Gi that I colored the pants tan, used some strips of material for the leggings and threw on my work boots. The belt while not exact movie accurate was pretty cool as I used my belt from my tool belt. Saber was made by me out of PVC. I don't think I hit fifty bucks and it won a contest. If I went to a convention like that it would be picked apart.

The Comic-Con being referred to is (was, by now) in San Diego.

I know some of the guys you saw dressing up as Vader and I don't believe any of them were the guys from here at this forum.

If they had been, then they would have known about Ultrasaber too, and would have come over to the Rebel Legion table, right next to the 501st table, to talk to Alex when he was talking to Don and myself over there, when they saw those 2 white blades sabers he had.</font id="blue"></font id="size3">
