The Dawnstar is complete :D

After almost a months time of trial and error, (as is the case with most "firsts" of everything.) it is finally done. I'm using an Luxeon III cyan bin 1 (I got through a swap with Corbin.. Thanks again!), MR 616 soundboard with Erv's LED driver, 4AAA battery pack, a switch I bought from Radio Shack with it's red button removed, and a speaker I got from TCSS.

I painted the body pieces with Rustoleum Metallic Pale Gold with light gray prime coat. Except for the one section I left the natural silver to give a good accent. The grips I cut out from the tube of the 616 saber kit that held the electronics and I covered them with Plasti-grip rubberized coating and rubbed some of the edges off to give it a weathered look. The switch housing is also from the 616 kit from one of the hilt pieces. I placed o-rings at three sections where they connected to off-set the look a bit. And the two chrome pieces below the emitter is from a "Graflex" type flash holder. I believe it is a Kalart brand flash holder I got from Ebay.

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed building this saber. :D

Very Nice indeed! A yellow blade would go nicely with it

Nice color choice. I agree with Malaki, a yellow blade would look sweet on your saber.

very NICE, is the blade nylon? or sumthing?

Thank you for the compliments guys :)

To answer a couple of you, After looking at the hilt for a few minutes... I think Malaki and Er Dan may be on to something lol. I do have an extra amber Lux3 sitting here, and my saber is set up with a quick connect style LED wiring. Only I used both my quick connects on the cyan and red LEDs here. Once I place another order with the shop for more quick connects I will definitely post a updated pic using the amber LED for kicks lol.

And I am using an 1" thin walled blade from the shop along with a double wrap of blade film and three feet of cellophane. I also light sanded the tube with 400 grit sandpaper ( read somewhere in the forum someone else had done it) which gives the blade an effect I found I like lol.

If I may make a suggestion, a Seoul P4 with a yellow and orange filter, makes for a much nicer amber.

My son just finished his first saber, and chose an amber lux 3. He loves it, but I was less than impressed. I'm gonna try and sneak a new P4 with filters in it when I can.

I've read on the forums the Seoul P4 is nice and bright. what place would be the best to go through in purchasing one? I tried googling that LED and did not have much success in finding a good source for one.

I would leave it as it is.

Actually, my next saber (Joe Jedi internals with a batt pack and port in an MHS) I've decided I'm going to call "Mark II" and try and come up with a good powdercoating scheme that will look like a Mark II Viper from Battlestar Galactica. Or at least something close to one.

Yeah. Tim's gonna get some money from me on that one. Just need to get my first saber, currently code-named "MacGyver," up and running.

Thanks for the "point to" in the direction to get a P4 guys :)

Hasid: Oh, the cyan set up is definitely the permanent for this saber. The P4 is going into another build, but for kicks and to show the others who commented on a yellow blade I'm going to take pics of this saber with just that, then it will be switched back to the cyan.

DDD: Thanks man, I got my knack for painting things I build from back when I started model car and aircraft building. When I painted this saber, I showed it to my father in-law who thought I got it professionally anodized lol. Freaked him out when I explained I did it with a spray can

Kant Lavar: I would love to see how the Mark II comes along. Being a fan of BG myself, the idea of a viper inspired saber sounds hella cool

Nice looking saber, good job :)

How well does the spraypaint stay on the hilt? Do you think it will chip and fall off as time goes on or through use? That would be my worry.

I like how you have a shroud over the switch... I should do that to my own sabers where the power switch is fairly exposed to impacts.

Thanks! :)

As long as you use a prime coat, few coats of the color you want (I usually go 3 or 4 coats of this), and finish off with a nice durable clear coat, it should handle pretty well.

Yes, that shroud was exactly what I needed to help with the size of the switch I used. Took it right off my Joe Jedi hilt piece and was surprised how well it fit.
