I'm so bad with my MHSs, I change them and change them and change them... but I always end up changing them yet again...

here's the latest creation from my subterranean laboratory (aka "corner of my living room")

New MHS pieces arrives last week. BH#5, ribbed section w/v grooves, and pommel#1. Also, a 2" & 3" double female section from other hilts.

- Another CF v3 (again on Soresu sound font)
- Royal Blue K2
- Aqua progressive 5mm LED
- Green lowbat 3mm LED
- Recharge port in the butt
... and a little bit of love

Thanks yous'all. I will say... the mismatched metal coloring on the ribbed section is kind of an eye sore... but the more I look at it, the more I can convince myself it's "character"

Hasid Lafre

You could wetsand it and it should all have the same appearence.

eastern57
05-27-2008, 09:21 PM
Really? I just might do that.... what's wetsand?

xl97

I have put parts on a 'dowel' in my drill and spun them... while 'wet sanding'

wet sanding is using a very high (anywhere from 1000-2500 for auto) grit sandpaper that needs water applied to keep the grit clean of debris usually.

I have used a 400 & a 600 on a few MHS parts to spin...as well as some brass & copper

its best NOT to just hold the paper around the tubes/parts with yoru fingers..but to use a padded rubber/foam pad or something.....that can keep a somewhat flat/even surface.

this works good if you have some grooves or 'speed lines' cut into your parts that you want painted as well.. just paint the part.. let it dry.. sand it down.. the grooved parts will be painted still.

I've used this set from Micro Mark (http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=80939).
All the way up to the 12000 grit, all I can say is wow, does it produce. Very, very time consuming to do by hand, but worth every bit.

Hey cool. That's one thing that's missing from pretty much all my hilts: finish. I spend so much time on electronics and layout, that I didn't even care if I scratched it... I'll have to stop that.

Thanks all!

Almost forgot Eastern, pick up some of this aluminum polish (http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=MRS&MfrPartNumber=05100&CategoryCode=3303) for after you are finished wet sanding.

nice saber

the brass thing next to the emitter, what is it? And how did you put it on?

xl97
05-30-2008, 11:50 AM
yeah eastern..

I think I asked that previously abou tthe brass 'ring'.. and I either didnt get an email notification.. (or its a secret) ;)

eastern57
05-30-2008, 01:12 PM
It's a gold ring from a MR Mace. There's two of them on a mace, but this is the smaller one.

It's held in place by pressure: it's seated over an o-ring on the blade holder and the pressure from tightening holds it in place. No glue, solder or adhesive, just pressure - but, holy cow, is it on there tight!!

cheap trick to add some bling, but I like it :)

xl97
05-30-2008, 01:16 PM
I have done similar..

I bought a 'raw' brass sink tube.. it has a smaller inner diameter (wall thickness is thicker than conventional tubes)..

and this lets me cut small rings/bands out of it and polish it up and place it inbetween the threads of MHS parts.. small bling that adds minor detail... but it all adds up.

how did you get that switch to go on? did you have to get the hole machined?

cause i was thinking of using this for mine:

http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/PB-144/HD-METAL-PUSHBUTTON-FLAT-MOMENATRY-N.O./-/1.html

eastern57

I got the switch hole service that Tim provides. BUT - it was the original size (smaller), the one for the judco switches. I had to widen the hole myself, but the rim was the perfect size for this switch.

With that switch, you'd have to get a custom hole made - its huge.

The brass ring is definitely a sweet touch. I think they sound as good as they look. That font in the video is really strong.

Thanks. Thought of maybe changing the 5mm LED... maybe putting in a single RGB (common ground) and see how creative I can get with a single LED, multicolor animations...

waiting on my dodgamn camera to recharge....

Anyway, got my new emitter today... Holy Begeezunuts!! Tim really came through with this one... It's VERY classy. I'll get pics up when stoopid camera work...

In the meantime here's a preview:

Okay, like I said I got this new blade holder that Tim reworked, and wow, that's all I can say about it... so I'll leave it at that...

The hilt got a reworking too, I evened-out the finish and it has a uniform brushed look throughout. Also, if you haven't seen, there's a 5mm RGB LED in place of the original aqua. The 3mm right next to it is still a green low batt indicator.

It also got a Lux III R/O upgrade as well. It's just way too fitting for the look now...

pics please? awright, awright, here it is:

Even with the switches, LEDs and ring there, it's still way comfortable! If I had any internetz, I'd give them all to Tim...

edit: DARK EMPIRE! I was trying to put my finger on what this reminds me of... it reminds me of Dark Empire.. whew, now I can sleep ;)

Howdy folks!

Anyone who knows me - knows I change up my MHSs more often than my socks... figuratively speaking, of course ;)

Here's the latest updates to my "Franken-saber":

- Added Choke#3... now... it's like the la-z-boy of MHS hilts now
- I FINALLY got around to putting in Li-Ions in this beast (18650 x2)
- Swapped out the 3mm lowbat for a 4.8mm 120deg PPO LED
- MPS #3 V2, insert #1, 1.2" ABS resonator - VERY loud (I prefer ABS instead of PVC for resonators now, they're louder)
- Recharge port was moved off to the side... out of the way of the speaker
- New button... same one, just new...
- Took off o-rings and brass ring

Same:
- CF V3
- RGB "bargraph"
- Lux III R/O (bin2)
