Sorry, I got kicked off from another thread, so I made a new one...

http://album.blog.yam.com/Lightsaber&folder=3759206

this is a presentation on how he makes his LED sabers, it's in chinese, but the pictures help. He fabricates LED strings. It's pretty neat, I kinda want to try it someday. They're way bright and obviously, chameleonic... (totally just made up that word)...

That's the same guy? The one in the videos?? Makoto?? So he just strung those LEDs? Cool! I gotta do that for mine.. you know which LEDs he uses? Hmmmm.. how much power would you need to string 60 of those LEDs? So he just strung a bunch of RGB LEDs like that to make the one that changes color right? oh man!

Yeah, that's him. Here's his home page:
http://album.blog.yam.com/album.php?userid=Lightsaber&page=1&limit=12
There's three pages of galleries and they're all amazing.

These two are BY FAR my favorite

He's "Makototsai". I spoke with him about a year ago, actually! :) He seems pretty nice, and obviously loves sabers!

OMG... those... are... AWESOME!!! Wonder if those are made out of PVC or wood... hmmmmm. I gotta get my friend to translate the page. Check out this section, http://album.blog.yam.com/Lightsaber&folder=3691815, he's having a workshop or something on how to build your own lightsaber! hahaha this guy is cool! So any idea which LEDs he uses for the string? Any suggestions? And how would you power that many LEDs? Dang, now I have a future project to shoot for! haha

Holy hell those are impressive . I'd love one of the colour-changing sabers!

Question, I've notice some of his blade have no sound. what kind off leds are in his blade's? are these the same as the Hyperblade?

I would guess that they're just the higher output 5mm accents. You can get them in bulk for peanuts out of china/hong kong. as far as powering - it should take much, just do the math... roughly 3-3.5V and 20-30mA per... run in parallel w/proper control of current probably a 4.5/4.8V @ 1.5-2A should be sufficient ... math in public... anyone feel free to jump in with corrections...

I've been watching this guy for a while, and all his you tube video's, he has the best purple saber ive ever seen

very impressive, im attempting to make one, but wouldnt it have to be off of 12v? cuz there will be like 60 leds\

and they dont have to be monsterous out put leds 5mm are hell of alot bright then the ones the Force fx sabers use

but there are bright ones than others... and yes they are cheap generally you can get 100 for 20$ or even cheaper

i thinks its polyethylene he put in his tubes

there daylight bright sabers!

and you can make many different color sabers... Blue ,green, red, purple, yellow, orange, aqua, pink, cyan, deep red, or an 7 color RGB its awesome i think all sabers are going to be made like this one day

That guy makes some awsome sabers, he made a battle saber of sorts anima style and can see pics in teh fxsabers saber mod and customs forum. reallys weet stuff, and he uses 5mm hb leds for his blades.

Thanks guys for all the info. I've been searching the whole net for equivelant type of HB LEDs. I'm definitely going to follow his tutorial and attempt to replicate the same thing. If anyone has suggested links to websites that have these LEDs I'd appreciate. Will post pics/video once I complete. :)

Yeah I've seen those tonfa blades of his.. those were actually the first lightsabers that I ever heard from him, then I saw the 7 color changing one and I was hooked on trying to emulate what he has done. Which LEDs did you get LeMoel, the same ones from ebay that Eastern got or somewhere else? There's got to be an distributor here in the States that sells equivalent type of 5mm LEDs.

Well Im not sure which one's he buys if you do or know where he gets his from let me know. I got mine from ebay , 5mm leds are basically all the same.

The only differences are the degree's angle which mine are 20 degree's, he uses i think 40 degree's. I looked for 40 degree's and couldnt find much

there are differences in brightness for some, it goes by mcd , the higher the better

but i think as long as there in the thousands they will be bright enough

ebay has really fair prices

i talked with that makato guy just last week, he game the link to his page and i jus had google translate it for me heh (go me). yeah they are high brightness leds. and by the looks of it he uses some sort of clear tape over the leds then a type of foam between them and the inside of the blade, i never would have thought u could use foam as a diffuser. but that may be wat causes them to be brighter and be so evenly lit.

http://blog.yam.com/robberlee

just in case u want the translated page just type the link in google and it will trans for u.
i wonder if tim will begin to offer these types of leds and if they would fare as well as luxeons for dueling since they have foam to absorb impact vs mr ****ty duel capabilitys

dude. Good find. That's a little better idea, using the circuit board like that. I might try that when I get mine.

I'm guessing you haven't disassembled an MR yet, they use the foam tubing - and that obviously doesn't help them...

i have not taken apart a mr, havnt had the heart to ruin my anh luke (the big handled one) until the blade breaks , and its almost there . i dont even duel with it just swingin it around. anyways , i would think if mr's do use the foam it wouldnt be as thick or "spongy" as the foam makato uses in his but W/E, im still new to the saber buildin bit . thank you.

THe stuff on that site actually looks like the MR foamy. It is pretty spongy, as you say, but it's like putting on a sweater to go play football...

looks like fun. I think these are the leds yea?

HB-LED - 5mm RGB @ 40° viewing angle.. says these rate at 9400 mcd.
for that viewing angle this is a bit brighter than ones i see on ebay.
bout .50 cents USD ea though... and looks like min order is $100 yikes!
