I probably missed something in the original thread, but I was just wondering about the status of the winning design from the contest a while back. Is there any word on the run of sabers based on the design?

Strydur

The word is SLOW!!

I chose a flaky machinist for the job so now I need to step back and punt. I am sorry for the delay.

Will this be made so that you can open it up, for example, if you wanted to change the LED color, or add sound?

I'm excited for this saber, I LOVE the design :) Very simple and elegant! Looks comfortable to hold as well :)

Thanks neptuneTQ.
I think its getting close, one of the new blade holders and the new pommel bear a striking resemblance. :)

I recieved some pics from Stryder (Tim) yesteday of the winning contest saber he is building for me, this has been in the works for a while now, but I think you all will agree it was worth the wait. It looks fantastic , even better than I had anticipated. Its not quite finished yet Tim still needs to install the switch and the rubber grip.

For those new members or anybody else that missed it here are some past links to the contest and discussion.

damn.. that is one elegant saber there..

really impressed... no doubt.

the grooves in the BL and the pommel are great.. and the 'milling' (or whatever) in the hilt/handle section adds a touch of class to the overall project.

Oh man that looks great! I would be all over those ribbed sections if they were made available. My saber seems lacking now that I've seen that! Damn you and your amazing designs!!!

Wow, that's beautiful.

I hope at least some of those parts become available at the store sometime. I really like the section between the pommel and curved foregrip. That little section for a rubber grip to be inlayed is really nice.

I can't lie. When I saw the design, I liked it but wasn't uber impressed.

Seeing it in reality, I am glad i was WRONG. That thing is so beautiful.

And I agree I hope that some of those parts become stock.

XL97, It looks like Tim kept to the initial design. so if he did its 12 1/2" aprox

xl97
08-21-2008, 09:35 AM
awesome.. and to me a perfect length.

I usually end up at slightly over/under the 12 in mark in all my designs anyhow. :)

Im glad to see this finally being produced for ya AoF. good job.

No doubts now why that design won. And such a simple modification to the pommel to let sound out. I'd be tempted to put some of that sound-transparent foam behind those slots just so you can't see all the way through, but that's just me. Love that centre section, and the recessed area for rubber grip is genius!

That's a really nice elegant hilt. I love the curvy grooved grip section.

And it's all compatible with MHS?! that's...that's awesome!

That
is
b-e-a-utiful.
Wow...
I do believe I might just have some inspiration whenever I start drawing plans for a new saber.
Never thought about staying simple.
Thats an amazeing design.
Just hope I can make something that nice oneday.

After receiving this from Tim several month's ago I finally got a chance to finish it up and complete this year and a half long project. All good things to those who wait I guess :)

I proudly present "Pariah".....

Ultrasound 2.0 in a TCSS compact setup with 2 Trustfires
Lux V green
Frosted poly-carb blade (from the colored blade set Tim is selling).

I had originally designed the lower grip to be rubber with a hidden switch under it. It proved too difficult to cut the rubber right, so I went with a powder coated aluminum overlay instead. This is by far the most comfortable saber I have ever had in my hand.

Sorry to necro-post this but I figured it was relevant, and wanted to show it off in all its glory

Thank you so much Tim....you are the man :)

Congratulations! She's a BEAUTY! :-) :-)

And I'm not surprised it's so comfortable, I found the concave grip on the Ultrasabers Wraith to be comfortable spinning even when I had a hand injury...and your design brilliantly pioneered the concave grip before it, so Thank You Arm On Fire for that!

Now if only Strydur made a concave grip hilt section or extension like that...*hint hint*

One question...do you find that having the sound vents cut sideways instead of on the end muffles the sound any?

Arm on Fire
05-18-2009, 06:55 PM
Thanks man :)

Nope, not at all. If anything it seems louder because the sound is projecting all around, not just to the floor, that is pretty much what I was thinking when I designed it, I'm pleased to say it worked :)

That did turn out good, if I'm correct will tim still be doing the run of the same saber or was it changed to a one of a kind? I seem to remember that there would be a run of the winning saber.
