Hey guys, I was just asked to do a Harley saber for a display in a shop, anybody have any ideas on design? It's going to have a orange blade, P4 with filters, MR sound, MHS hilt probably powder coated orange and black with some harley emblems attached. What pieces should I use and anybody got anything trick to do, all credit will be given, it's for a grand opening ceramony, then to sit on a display in shop. Vader will be riding in on one of the shops customs get off and brandish his saber along with bike. Should be some great footage, I have about 30 days to complete. They want the saber to look custom not like vaders, hence he upgraded when he got his new bike, harley style.

This is got to be the weirdest combination I have ever heard of.

Using MHS parts, i'd go for a couple of ribbed extensions(powdercoated black in the grooves) joined by a 3 inch section (powedercoated orange with a black HD logo), Emitter 7 hightly polished, pommel 5 powdercoated like the ribbed extensions. Mount the switch on the center 3 inch section on the opposite side of the harley logo.

But that's just my idea.

why would you say that? Harely people cant 'dig' star wars? Are you labeling? ;)

I am a Harely Fan & Rider.. I actually build custom bikes every now and again as well..

anyways.. I would say any swap meet is your BEST best for trinkets and cheap emblems.

however you can always search the store www.jpcycles.com etc..etc

and see if you see anything.. maybe some old grips can be working to the hilt.. they do have MANY nice metal & ruber grips..

they also have MANY brake disks, tank badges..etc that you can use to cut, sand & tweak..

bar & shild is the classic HD logo... but I woudl go for one without words/font just outlines/silouette

Great idea XL, I didn't even think of using harley parts. Genius.
These would be awsome on the pommel

dont forget harleys are alot of black and chrome and flashy emblems of sorts. I just dont see how you could combine the 2.

Even if that were true (harleys are alot of black & chrome).. that would still fit in PERFECT..woldnt you think? sine most sabers are.....well, black & chrome? :)

but bikes come in all shapes & sizes.. and you customize them to your desire just like you do a saber.

only black here are the tires, seat (and a little on the grips)

http://dmstudios.net/images/color_test/regular_small.jpg

looks a little different now.. (added some more 'paint' and did some welding/minor fabrication to the tank)

AH-

and usually those parts come in a range of sizes. you an get those for end caps on grips (pommels more or less) ;), gas cap inserts, brake caliper inserts... also tank badges.. but those are probably too big.

on a side note.. most grips (ID) are 1in.. for 1in handle bars.. some can be for 1.+ (for the chubby bars)

Im actually gonna check some of my old bike parts in the garage tonight when I get home from work.. :)

but I woudl stop in at local HD dealer.. those places are packed with trinkets galore!

pins, pendants, chains, emblems....etc.. you shouldnt have ANY problems finding somethign to spark an idea.. :)

I want a HD------------- but I keep buying all these MHS and rifles!

Anyways, I say it definitely screams Chrome------ an orange (the HD logo is black and orange) blade (probably have to go with a White LED with a Filter right? ---- Leather wrapped is a must--- and a pointy pommel! Just a real classy, yet dangerous looking hilt.

Oh ya-- something like this has been done before-- "cheesily" but it's been done.

Hmmmm...first thought would be one of those German cross pieces for the pommel...1.5" sink tube with cut outs forward and a 1.5" sink tube adapter for the blade holder...grip made of 1" Harley grips cut in half with T-Grips between to make up for the gaps and create a hybrid Harley/Vader effect...MPP clamp center section with Harley shield wrapped around like on your Superman saber...high polished ribbed extension with powdercoated grooves like Arkai suggests inside the sink tube cut outs...and howzabout one of Ultras chromed Anakin-ATOC emitters to give it that 'Vader' look while still looking like an 'custom upgrade' from the normal black-MPP emitter Vader saber...well thats my first thought anyway and I dont know if it makes any sense or is too obvious but after seeing your brilliant Superman saber i'm sure whatever you come up with will be better and fantastic!

LOL....

yeah I guess leather 'is' a 'biker stereo type'... I personally dont like leather much.. (except in my cars..LOL)

spikes, chrome, black.. you can get some nice chrome out HD logos..

anyways here are some pieces to spark some ideas...

maybe EL (yuk) would give more options since most of this is smaller ID/OD?

JP-

you can get/build a Harley fairly cheap if you have some tools and some time..

the biggest costs are the:

engine
frame

(are you big/tall person?)

you can get a cheapie Buell and rip out the motor (Harely motor anyways), same as a Sporty (1200cc)

and a frame custom to yoru size would be about 500-1000 depending on what you want..

if you have a welding (tig preferred).. you could probably get aone cheaper tacked togeter.. and you finish laying the bead.

or you could just wait for a nice bike you like..and take out its owner with your rifle(s) :)

WOW thanks for some ideas, keep them coming, I really want to incorporate alot of the harley items. I have found emblems from like 5mm to 6 inches, so I don't think I will have a hard time getting them to go on and look good. the blade will be a p4 with a harley orange filter out of one of the turn signals off the actuall bike, which are polycarb and orange not yellow. I love the idea of the pointed pommels I might be able to adapt the actuall handles too. I will try to load a pic of the bike soon to give you more ideas, but this bike is all custom. Absolutely love the claws those are trully a FIND.

most of the axles covers and end mount stuff all attaches with set screws (usually)

so as long as the ID fit onto whatever OD you want/got..you should good..

I can take closer up pics of my stuff if you ever get to the point of purchasing and have questions..

some version of these:
http://img.jpcycles.com/zoom/36577f6b-dba1-4ef4-8078-6f4b80d236ac.jpeg

would make some nice crystal chambers... :)

make it about 1-2 inches in length threaded ends.. with a pommel insert (ie: washer) on each end with hole & grommet.. bam, modular crystal chamber.. and a fancy one at that

DARTH KALEL
05-02-2008, 12:41 PM
yeah I like that idea alot. crystal chamber would be sick, i'm thinking about the hilt being 16" the guy who will be in the vader suit is 6'7" and a real monster, they spent a huge ass amount to get the suit, which is a full replica costume that had to have the shoulder armour widened to fit him. He really looks menacing in the outfit, so I want the saber to kind of reflect his stature. mean and custom. I am going to be changing out all the elecs in the suit to use orange led's and a seamstress is redoing alot of stitching in orange as well. We had to make a leather cape for the suit cause the original one was way too small, now it really looks real. Hey guys if anybody knows where I can get an ultra sound board or an older version of CF to put in this thing, that would be great. This piece will be everybit of a show piece as the bike itself, along with the vader suit they will both sit in the intrance and will be permanant, and the saber will be on for most of the time through a power pack.

Wow, way to come through Mr.X.. those parts offer miles of ideas... I'm reminded of Corran Horn's I, Jedi hilt... it was made out of a speeder bike throttle assembly... but suposedly rather ugly.

I was thinking the same thing. I built one of my first sabers on that concept, but I think it's gonna be replaced with some of these awesome ideas.

I can get whatewver dimensions I have from the parts I got in the garage.. and from there we can 'guess' more or less..

bike parts are more or less universally the same dimensions..

(I think Im gonna light up my P4 LED tonight.. even though I dont have all the parts.. I still wanna see it SHINE! )

on a side note.. Im looking for a tactile switch that is LATCHING.. not momentary? smallest footprint you can find?..anyone? :)

I have abunch of momentary ones... but I was informed the Plecter Driver needs a latching switch.. :(

thanks

Ok first of all I think you should go with some kind of acrylic orange paint and then some (chrome) " polished buffed metal", Black should probably be acryic paint also, its alot like the paint they use on the bikes and cars and such

heres a link to the orange and black acrylic paint(acrylic quick coat)

http://www.caswellplating.com/vht/vht_quality.htm

Now if you dont go with this then i would go through tims powder coating
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now this is the most important part... USE or atleast test out this filter because through all my tests with the atlas led this one was by far the best orange in my eyes Millennium Gold #778 Lee filters page 119 if you dont like that one then deep orange is decent also GOOD LUCK!:p

Changed it up a bit but I like it. Could almost be mistaken for a handlebar.
