*ahem*

Uhh, yeah..Ambo, you officially belong in the Pantheon of the Master Smithy's, m'friend! Loved the pointed pommel..very abrupt, very indicative of the Sith...

Brother Mor-El, I'm glad that you were able to work out those pesky gremlins...and also glad to see you picked Jedi Guardian Blue! lol

Keep up the great work, all!

Brother Naashar, are we not brothers of the blue blade? Did I correctly figure out your dueling technique based off your hilt design?

If I may ask, what gripping surface did you finally settel on? I like the contrast it puts on your hilt and I'd like to pick up some for my hilt.

Mor-El Kesav, that's an interesting design. it'll be even more interesting to see what it looks like when yer done with it. [8D]

allright, enough arse-kissin'. just thought i'd put out a few kudos to you amigos and your mad-skillz.

Indeed, Brother Mor-El! You have, of course, surmised correctly! Am I truly that transparent? [:D]

The grip material I found was from a product called "e-grips", carried by Radio Shack. You should be able to find it in the cell phone accessories section. They're designed to keep your cell phone from slipping off of slick surfaces, but as you can see, I found a more aesthetic use for them! I'm experiencing some loss of adhesion, so I'll apply some Gorilla Glue and firmly affix them to the rig. I actually made the grip pattern up as I went (!), but I am truly satisfied with the end result.

When I stumbled upon it, it was on clearance; you may want to try to find it sooner rather than later.

The buckpuck is a sweet little driver for these puppies. It fits real nice in the hilt and gives you a smooth 1000 or 700 for 5W millis and you can use them to drive more then one star ala saberstaff. Corbin's board is way cooler and a resistor is way cheaper but I like using them alot.

EDIT-Oh and guys, all of you have some awsome sabers on here. I love to see all these designs and hope to take the time to post a few pics up myself after we move.

A buckpuck is a led driver that supplies a constant current to the led even as the battery pack goes dead the brightness of the led will not change until the battery drops bellow the minimum level. The buck puck will operate on 5 volts - 32 volts and you don't have to use any resistors or wory about frying your led. I can drive a 1 watt luxeon with just 2 AA batteries using a micropuck led driver.

Say, JT...couple of questions for you:
1. How do you manufacture those clamp assemblies? Are they fairly simple to do?
2. On your 2.0 version of your EpI-esque saber, how did you do the binding/heat plates?

Thanks, cousin...

ok, I can't technically call this saber my own creation since I bought it from Ultra and you know where the parts came from. MHS 5-watt'er, white with Lee Filters of course...

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/janeblue.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/janehilt.jpg

I did add grips with Rhino Lining and some gold trim pieces that came outta the Lee swatchbook too. Black o-rings on the ribbed section are of course mandatory. *edit* i wasn't used to the camera i was using, so the pics came out kinda dark. the blade is every bit as bright as my pics on the Lee Filters thread that the_steve authored.

Mi Gin Gonn, very sharp looking saber there brother.

jtsteph, sleek and dangerous looking saber, well done.

987654321a, design # 3 would be my preference though they all are great designs.

tubaboombah, awesome. Great use of gold tones, reminisant of Mace's blade.

Do-Clo, superior work as always.

Master Naashar, I found some of the e-grips material you were talking about. I was only able to get ahold of the silver. I have tried paint them, but the paint won't hold. However, I think the silver adds nice accents to the blank areas of my hilt and it definately improves the grip. I must apologize about the poor quality of my photographs, it is not my strong suit. Regardless, here is a picture of the modified saber:

It's funny that you frame it that way! As I stated, I actually stumbled on the e-grips, and decided to settle on them as sort of a "quick-fix", until I could find the material I really wanted. Lo and behold, no sooner had I applied them, I instantly knew that no other would work. I may have to find more, however. It seems that my enthusiasm for working out with my rig has caused some wear and tear.

thanks for the kind words, guys. appreciate it. i just hope that saber is happy in its new home...*sob*

my next personal saber is definitely gonna something Mace-ish, perhaps like Tubaboombah's. I really liked the gold/black/chrome look of that. And I'm going all out with all the bells & whistles on it, too.

That's about worthless as Snitz countdown, I can draw pictures to. I think xwing and I were more interested in what you actually did. So far there have NOT been a lot of Maul conversions done yet so we were wondering how you did it. Thank you sir, that is what I was trying to get to. Does the blade holder have an optic stop like Tims or does it just rest on top of the led and the blade keeps it down?

Ok, please don't take this the wrong way...

Or maybe you can, I don’t really care.

You don't come off on here as someone with the resolve to be able to successfully run a lathe and design and create a precision piece of equipment like that.

You do, however, come off as the type of person that would have this made and claim it as your own in an attempt to gain respect in the forums.

Now, if I'm wrong then congrats! Very nice job!

If not...

Spill it now or forever hold your peace... Because, not if, but when we find out you're fibbing, you will loose more respect than you are hypothetically trying to gain. And it will be a much bigger hole to dig out of.

Believe it or not we like you here. (Most of us anyways) But we have no respect for liars. So tell us, who designed it, turned it, so on and so forth???

Mi Gin Gonn

Decided to spiff up my first MHS 5-watter. It originally looked like this:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/IM002244.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/IM002238.jpg

Kind of boring. It was my first time using Rhino Lining, and after a while I didn't like the way that timing belt looked on the emitter, either. Timing belts are much better suited for pommels.

After seeing Tubaboombah's hilt and my own cosmetic work on the "Wiedwhacker" saber, I decided that an upgrade with some gold accents was in order.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/newhilt2.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/newhilt1.jpg

For the new grip section, I used double-sided 3M foam tape...you can get it at Home Depot, or hell, most grocery stores carry it too. It only comes in white, so I sprayed black Rhino Lining on the strips I cut out, and then peeled off the backing to expose the untouched adhesive. Worked like a charm, and the grips have a nice feel to them...not too thick, not too thin. Now if I can just find a washer big enough to go on the top of the emitter I'll be all set [8D]

last i looked a few days ago, the 3 cell heilands are scarce right now. only seen a couple, but they were a lil high for one.

ive found a package deal a time or two, with more than one handle, some extension parts for the main tube and such. which i used on the great saber, a 2 cell with a 2 cell extension making it 4 cell/plus the claw emitter making it 6 cell long.

Here is my newest saber. It was a gift for a friend for his wedding. It's a green 3w with mr ani guts. The switch is from the mr ani. Special thanks to Tetmatek for making the blade holder and pommel section for me. The blade is standard mr also. I didn't think that he would do any dualing.

This was one half of the first pair of sabers i ever built:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/firstsaber.jpg

After a year of dueling and brutal abuse, it's time for this sucker to retire...it served me well, the poor 'ol bastard:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/oldbob.jpg

So today, after one trip to Home Depot and using some parts from a stripped-down Luke MR (not to mention recycling the TCSS blade holder, battery pack, and LED) here's what I've got thus far:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d129/darthshoppingmall/newsaber2.jpg

It isn't finished yet...everything in white behind the pommel is getting dremeled off, and i gotta wire everything up. Plus I think I'm gonna re-paint that ugly pseudo-copper color on the switchbox. My goal is to have this sucker finished by my birthday, which is in 5 days.

<font color="purple"><font face="Courier New">Well here’s my latest saber, my first one built with MHS parts.

The parts are Screw on LED blade holder style 7, Double threaded hilt style 2, MHS 2.5" extension tube and Screw on pommel style 3. Uses the MR FX Sound Module and has two 3w Luxeon.

The claws were cut out of 5mm aluminium using a waterjet machine. They cost me about £40 to get done by a company over here, there was no way I could have cut them out my self. They are adhered on with Araldite rapid steel.

I drilled and countersunk the holes in the extension tube my self, then I sanded all the parts with fine sandpaper and polished it. Originally I was going to paint the hilt and the extension tube black and put a sinktube over it with a design cut out of it, but after seeing all the polished sabers here I changed my mind. I might eventually put skateboard grip tap on it for extra grip, I have some extra laying around, but I’m leaving it as is for now!

Hope you like it.</font id="Courier New"></font id="purple">

thanks, Naashar, lol. those e-grips should be called "Instant Bling." If you line them up correctly, it actually gives the illusion that they're under nonexistent cuts made in the hilt.

got a lot of work done on it today, added a belt clip knob, Rhino-lined the switchbox plate and part of the neck, drilled/tapped the switchbox and endcap holes, and tested all the wiring with alligator clips (good call, Madcow). should be finished in a few days...OI OI OI!!!!

p.s. Chaos...awesome saber. Looks like it came from the depths of hell itself (in a badass way, of course). Do those claws on the end by chance pick up stuffed animals like the crane games they have at the beach? [:D]

Thanks, Ambo![:D] The balance is wonderful; it plays right into my body mechanics (5'11", long arms, large hands), and my dueling style: a Form III and V combination. It allows me to duel equally well 1 or 2 handed, allowing me to generate power for attack or speed for defense.

All in all, even though I'm planning to build more, this will be my "keeper".

thanks, Do-Clo and Ambo. like Naashar said, this saber's gonna be my main amigo when it's finished. i wasn't even planning on it looking like that...i was originally gonna do a Vader knock-off, but when i started messing around with the E-Grips that Naashar swapped with me a whole new design came to life. after that i discovered that the MR Luke emitter, with one wrap of electrical tape, fits PERFECTLY over Strydur's O.G. blade holder. from there the saber pretty much designed itself, lol... "it's alive!!!" (funny because it was "Frankensteined" from two different sabers plus hardware parts)

thanks for the compliments, amigos. i finally added the last minor touches to the hilt tonight.

i have one last thing to do to the endcap, and that is to put some screening over the hole i cut out for the speaker. i tried making multiple small holes, but it blocked too much of the volume...so instead, i cut out one giant circle. helluva lot louder.

the luke switchbox made this sucka, though. after i coated it with Rhino Lining and painted it with black Honda touch-up paint, i added a row of fake diamonds from Michaels for some "extra bling." they also had half-spheres that would make good EPIV-style bubbles if you lined 'em up right. i thought about doing that, but lotsa sabers already have the bubbles so i went for something a tad more flashy [8D]

Very nice, I might want one but I need to know a few things and be honest, is it good for dueling? Does the little switch box ever get in the way? And how do you think it compares to other sabers and what do you think could improve?

O-B 1
08-13-2006, 05:44 PM
It shouldn't be so much different from the Luke in dueling I think. Did you use the stock blade holder, or did you machine or have machined a aluminum one Hajime? Very nice conversion.

HMC,I haven't dueled with it yet.It should make for a good dueling saber. The switch is like the Vader ESB just lower on the hilt.It shouldn't get in the way while dueling. It also sounds like an Anakin.Compared to the other MR sabers I think their all about the same. It's not as easy to convert as the others but it's a nice solid hilt.I hope that helps.O-B 1, I machined my own led/blade holder out of aluminum and used Tim's blade and diffuser.

MHS base set plus:
-3w true cyan led
-momentary 3w driver board from Corbin
-Luke FX sound module
-mirror polished brass accents: I designed, dremelled, and sanded & polished (by hand) these parts

There were 2 additional Corbin components I had to leave out, as there was no room left inside the hilt. I barely managed to get the thing closed as it was.

The amber is in a store being sold ATM so....sorry no more pics of it....and it has an old 1/16 walled blade with no diffuser....i hand frosted it....was my first blade.

LOL...thanx everyone for the kind words....again....and it is decieving....though it looks simple ther was a lot of work put into it....for the pomel dosnt fit into the hilt like i have done in the past....the hilt is inserted into this pomel.....i actually bored out the pomel so i could fit the battery pack into the pomel to give myself more room inside so i could keep it shorter....also i had to bore it to fit the speaker screen in there nice and tight, I had to press it in with my vice like one would a bearing[sp?]. I used no adhesive to hold it in, but it will take a whole lot to get it out. THe emitter always takes a lot of work on the lathe to get it to look like that, so i cna understand why Tim's MHS stay to the K.I.S.S. rule....otherwise prices will get quite up there. Other than one off's it can get quite time consuming to put a lot of detail into hilts.

Work in progress.

This is my first homemade saber. 1.5" aluminum tube. Turned bladeholder and pommel. Hasbro obiwan soundboard with force feedback, but I wired the motor in with the led's. Now it vibrates constantly, except on clash/startup/shutdown. At those times the motor stutters in time with the blinking lights. 1w luxeon led (scavenged from a flashlight) on a seperate switch.

The lux will light the blade. The hasbro leds are for auxilliary lighting. I'm going to mill slots on the OD of the blade holder to allow the light to shine out of the tube.

The battery pack has a dean's micro connector and fits about 3/4 of the way into the pommel. The speaker will be above this, with a grill pattern drilled into the tube to let the sound out.

I'm just waiting on my css order to arrive monday(full mhs kit plus an extra polyc blade for this homemade jobbie)

I still need to finish the blade holder, drill the holes, attach with screw, add fancy details and such, but I have an intense need to show off ;) and had to post my progress.

Well i took the grip from one of those press up bars thinking it would do perfect as it squashed down and i thought it would also anchor the other tube. Now heres a warning: Even debured metal tubing is sharp I was trying to get the foam in and kinda ripped my hands up in the process, didnt even realise untill the tube was well red [B)]

The foam just rips as i try to slip the other tube onto it, so im thinking of just buying tons of O rings for the grip or craft foam perhaps...

I had a slight change of plans on my 1st saber. After unsuccessfully trying to cram the hasbro sound board, motor, etc into my saber (and subsequently resoldering every connection 2 or 3 times) I decided that sound just wasn't that important this time around ;)

In the process, I also disfigured my 1.5" tube, and the fix wasn't looking to good:

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4726/20060829sabers035pj9.jpg

So, I got a new tube (1.625" thick walled aluminum) just wired up the 1w lux, and added in a vibrating motor and called it quits with that. The sound will be for another saber, with a longer tube.

Pics show it next to my newly arrived MHS (3w white)

The CSS MHS parts are awesome! The quality of the machining and deburring is great, the fit is great, they are just plain great :)

I'm very happy with all the stuff I bought (parts for the full saber and an extra polyc tube/diffuser for my homemade job) I'll for sure be coming back for more.

Finally!
I'm finished my Luke ROTJ replica.
http://www.freewebs.com/genesis_sabers/ROTJ%201.JPG
The LED indicators work, but it does not support a Luxeon or any kind of blade, it's jut a showpeice... but it's the first replica I've machined myself!

That looks great madcow. I have always liked the ROTJ saber. You seem to have replicated it very well. The finish is very nice too.

Do you think you could put the led just below the first tapered section below the emitter shining up through it and then just use the entire emitter as a blade holder? I am not dissing on your saber I just really like this saber design and have thought about it some.

Just keep us informed if you start making any Dooku style sabers that will accept a blade and led. Ha Ha. JK. Keep up the excellent work.

Great replica Madcow. You should try to make one that supports a Luxeon and blade next.

if you got those kinda machining skillz, you'd prolly make a killing here if you did some Obi Wan EPII-style pommels that'd fit the MHS. i know i'd sure as hell buy one *hint hint*...whoever tackles the case first, you or Strydur, gets my $$$ [:D]

Thanks. The MHS rocks! I had that saber together in about 10 minutes of soldering, stuffing, screwing, glueing :)

shikey, it's airsoft (a CA). I'm over at wnyal.net and arnies.

Plans:
-I want to put slide switches on both. In my practicing I keep turning them off unintentionally (both the toggle and the pushbutton)
-Add the soundboard to the mhs
-dress up the homemade jobby with some sort of grubbins and present it to my son (he just finished his first viewing of episodes 4,5,6,1,2,3 and is quite the SW junky now)

I built this saber in December last year. I haven’t posted it up until now as I haven’t had any good quality pictures of it. As it seems like I won’t be getting any better pictures any time soon I thought I’d share it with you now.

<center>http://users.tpg.com.au/thepete/Jedi_pete_saber.jpg</center>

It has an EL blade running at 4htz and two 9 volt batteries. I haven’t posted any pictures of the blade as my camera on my phone takes useless pictures in the dark.

All parts are from www.thecustomsabershop.com shop except for the grip and switch which I just had lying around. The paint is a blue anadized effect spray paint i got from the local auto shop.
