Saber Crystals

Hey all.

Apologies ahead of time if this has already been covered. Newbie here ;-)

But I have a question concerning these crystals I see in use. Are these crystals actually a part of the 'real-world' function of a saber - ie; blade color - or are they just for 'show' so to speak?

Just for show. The LED is what gives a blade color and luminosity.

I have seen some designs that include the crystal and a couple small LEDs placed so the "glowing focus crystal" can be seen in "windows" in the saber hilt, but that's about it.

Or if you put together your own saber construction machinery, and wanted to add a bit of versmilitude to the bench and tossed a few of those in a parts bin... ;)

My MHS is one of those you've probably seen. It's a PITA to do, but the effect is awesome if done well. I love it personally.
