I am very interested in converting a MR (Force FX saber)to EL. I want to maintain all the sound FX in the MR saber, but convert the blade to an EL blade, and also sturdy everything up a bit for dueling. Could such a thing be done? it seems to me it could... but what do I know? In general the Luxeon set up seems to not look as good as the EL blades, but maybe thats just the picture... so I want to go with an EL blade. Anyone got anything on this?

It is somewhat possible. The main problem you would have to get past is the low voltage the MR puts out. With only 4.5v it is not enough to power the inverters I sell to a decent level. You might be able to find a inverter made for lower voltage though.

Ok, another approach, is it possible to reinforce an MR blade for dueling? We wont change the original LED set up, no luxeon, just basically swapping the 1/16 lexan for a 1/8 inch lexan, and maybe add some shock absorbing bushings to prevent damage to the LED connections? This seems like it would be fairly simple.

I doubt it, the MR led are surrounded by foam anm and they still break from the shock. It might make them last longer but another problem you would have is fitting the MR setup inside a 1/8" walld tube since the inside diameter is smaller.

it would probably be alot easier to just buy one of tims conversion kits for the MR youd probably end up saving money in the long run anyways

with tim's blade the light is darn near even. there is no bulb at the tip and only a small flare at the hilt. it would be TONS easier to just buy one of his conversion kits

If you were that keen on EL you could keep the base stuff sans electronics. If you got li-ion AA's the base battery pack could then send 11.2V to the inverter. Modding the stuff to put in the mono jack would probably be harder...

EDIT I forgot... darkjedi should be called the necromancer for pulling up all of these old threads.[:D]
