This is my first MHS based saber. It was made for me by Jedibum. It's just under 11 inches total. The only thing that I didn't have added to it was a machined covertec button. I'm gonna have one added, just not sure where yet. Also, my other favorite emitter is the MHS Obi-Wan style emitter ... which one do you think is better for this saber ... the Overlord or the Obi-Wan?

Has anyone asked you about the buttons yet? ;)

Hi guys! Glad you like the saber, I tried to keep it pretty simple. I think the MHS is pretty awesome without having to add to much to it ... just a few custom stuff here and there.

You can get LED housings at Radio Shack, but the ones I used didn't come from there. The problem I found with the radio shack ones is size. The housings they offer for 5mm LED's are huge in my opinion. Here's a link to the ones they offer:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062559&cp=2032058.2032233.2032297&parentPage=family

They are just way too big and I think they stand out too much and get in the way. Honestly I can't rememeber where I got the housings I used. I have a bag on my work bench of random nuts and bolts and things that I get but never use. I found a few of those in there. I can see if I have any more, if I do you guys can have them.

Ok, the buttons! I always wanted to make a saber that had hidden buttons, like you are using the force to turn the saber on. Anyway, I decided to see if I could do it with the Obi-Wan V-Grooved grip. Here are the buttons I used:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3014504&cp=2032058.2032230.2032278&pg=1&y=11&retainProdsInSession=1&x=10&numProdsPerPage=100&parentPage=family

They have a long peg, that's why I chose them ... I knew I was going to mount them on the inside and the buttons were going to have to be long enough to be at least as tall as the V-Grooved sections.

The rest is pretty simple, I chose were I wanted each button, then I drilled a hole just big enough for the peg to fit through, when I mounted them I mounted them from the inside and secured them in place with adhessive and hot glue ... I made sure these switches will never come off lol. These buttons are pretty small, so you have to be careful when you do this and make sure the pegs don't get glued too. Also, before I secured them in place I shaved the peg down a little. They were slightly taller then the MHS V-Grooved piece ... I wanted the pegs to be just a hair under the grip so you would never hit the buttons by accident. And they are brown, so of course I had to paint them black so they are hidden in the grip as much as possible.

That's pretty much it for the buttons. It's really a lot easier then it seems.

So there only glued in place huh, I wonder how well that will work in the long run as the glue gets old and brittle.

But still, very cool

I'm not worried about the switches coming loose. I think it will last for a long time. I often use hot glue to secure things in place (battery packs, wires on recharge ports, sound cards) and so far it holds great, never becomes brittle. So far the oldest saber that I used hot glue with is about 2 years old and it stills looks good and seems to be holding very well.

what'd you use for the pommel insert, and do you have any more? I've been looking for something to let sound through that fits the MPS, all I have is a solid aluminum slug.

When Tim was first selling the MPS he had the insert that was vented for sound, I bought quite a few of them. I think I saw a thread that asked if those were coming back and he said he would have them back soon. If it's still gonna be a while before they come back in stock I can send you one of my extra ones.

I think stinky bantha did something similar with his cf saber.

I just got some of those switches - way more subtle and easy to work with, they take up no space.

Oh DIBS ON THE LED HOLDER....things :D

If you find any more sitting around on your bench, put me down for a handful if you can spare it 8)

P.S. Those switches are nice, been thinking about using something similar for my saber.

I like the hidden switch. The LEDs are nice too. Nice work for a first saber!
