ive never soldered before but while i was out at radioshack buying the Joe Jedi kit(from which to take the card for my saber) i picked up a 30 watt soldering iron and a desoldering bulb....it says it is for light soldering jobs. Will this work for the purposes of makeing LED sabers? Also anyone have link on how to "harvest" the board from the Joe Jedi Kit?

as far as soldering, Erv has a nice tutorial...
http://www.plecterlabs.com/catalog/article_info.php?articles_id=30

for the lux III, there are many ways, but there is a lot of info in Arms links above, his came out brilliantly ,and his input is coming from a lot more hands on exp than mine...but you can also split the output of the battery for a resistor and the board at the same time.....think of it this way, make 2 + and 2 - from your switch, then you have a feed for your led and a feed for your board, then all you need to do is connect the battery to the switch, providing the pack is no more than 6 volt you should do fine.....if you check into the threads a bit more after you get good at soldering, you will find that the board you have is the most versatile of all the MR boards....that's only my 2 cents.....I was just going to leave the link to the soldering tutorial then i just kept blabbering...but the info is all in the forums here.

I fully agree with Dark Helmet, the board from th SW-616 is the most versitile , and happens to be the cheapest right now if you can find them.

Although the thread of my fury saber isnt the most detailed how to, i think it will give you an idea where to start.

It has 2 independent circuits being run from 1 DPDT switch, 1 for sound only , and 1 to power (2) 700 ma buck pucks which is powering a luxIII red-o to its "recommended" power requirements.
