I forgot that I had this lying around--and also updated it with a few details from Balance of Power, EP II.

If you're interested, there ya go! A little character background and relational history into "Greytale Novastar"!

---------------------------------------------------------

Trained by masters: Zorn Tel-Visshor and Phantis Novastar

BOP team connections:
Connection to Cael Nordiun – recently took him on after finishing work training Sariss
Connection to Sariss Y'Aislyeen – his first student. Trained her since she was young
Connection to Valaris Skyblade – trained with him, life was saved by him
Connection to Terek Halcyon – learned much from the Consular, and is watched over by him

Family members (prior to BOP I, as in—before Sariss dies):
Novastar’s mother—unknown.
Novastar’s father—Phantis—is dead. Phantis was killed by Necrolosis & many dark jedi.
Novastar’s daughter—Alexandra—who is 10, is studying as an officer and jedi.
Novastar’s wife—Janella—is dead. Janella was lost in the destruction of a small space station during a large-scale attack made by Necrolosis, his dark team, and his armies.

HISTORY regarding family: Still only a recently promoted jedi knight on a small space station, Greytale Novastar was ordered by his father and Master Zorn Tel-Visshor to stay behind to lead and to direct the protection effort of a small space station while Tel-Visshor and Phantis Novastar investigated activity in a different area of space on an unrelated mission. A few hours into the mission, Greytale lost all radio contact with Tel-Visshor and his father.

Young and brazen, Novastar became impatient, and grew worried for his father. After attempting several times to make contact with both masters, he felt that too much time had passed, and could no longer control his emotions and inferred obligations to find out what was wrong, if anything. His wife pleaded for him to stay with her, not only for her safety, but in respect for Phantis’ and Tel-Visshor’s direct orders.

Greytale, completely unfocused on the base, left his assignment at the space station in order to aid his father and 2nd master. This was, of course, a terrible mistake.

Darth Necrolosis—upon detecting the lack of jedi support at the base via his keen awareness—launched a massive attack, devastating the space station, and gaining space superiority of the area. The two Novastars and Tel-Visshor returned to the base in shock and horror, finding only debris, death and defeat. This was indeed Necrolosis’ plan all along—to distract and draw away all jedi protection and leadership from the space station… thus leaving it wide open to attack and capture.

Janella—Greytale’s wife—was lost, along with thousands of officers, pilots and innocents. Few survived, but fortunately, or more ironically, Novastar’s young daughter Alexandra was parsecs away—at school—in training as an officer and as a padawan, completely unaware of the goings on at the base.

Greytale himself never revealed to his daughter that it was his emotional error that began the chain of events leading up to the death of Janella, Alexandra’s mother…

After attending to Greytale’s period of mourning, it was decided by Phantis and Tel Visshor that Novastar’s training was to be halted entirely. He was demoted to jedi learner—a position very few ever held, as they usually progress from padawan to jedi. For some years, Greytale remained a “jedi learner”—in this neutral-like limbo—and resigned himself to aiding only in the training of jedi, base management and logistics—never for jedi missions of any kind… blaming himself for the unbearable loss of thousands of lives… including his own wife’s.

Master Phantis, although a wise and kind man—reservedly never forgave his son Greytale for his mistake in judgement born entirely of emotion, but also too—never had the heart nor strength to tell Alexandra the full details of what had happened to Janella.

As time progressed, Phantis Novastar tracked down Necrolosis and pursued him—his mind on his son’s lost wife and the 1000’s of past lives destroyed long ago. Distracted by such emotion, he too, fell victim to a trap—and his life was forfeit. He was overwhelmed by Necrolosis and his team—the many dark jedi in Episode I—and as fate would have it, Necrolosis struck the final blow, and Phantis perished.

After Phantis’s death, Greytale’s training was re-evaluated by Master Zorn Tel-Visshor and other members of the Council. Clearly stronger and more resolute in the foundations of the light side of the Force—and also far more well-versed in controlling his emotion—he was promoted to Jedi Master. Continuing to train young jedi, he also began to take a heavy interest in mission-critical operations.

Master Greytale swore an oath to find Necrolosis and defeat him “…on his own stage, on his own terms… but during the moment that I alone shall decide.”. Greytale further swore that he would remain unfazed by every situation Necrolosis threw his way, and would succeed at every turn where his father became overwhelmed.

Master Greytale’s “control” of emotions prove to be a great ally and terrible foe in the saga of “Balance of Power”.

HISTORY regarding Cael & Sariss: Novastar discovered Cael and Sariss separately in their early years, his discovery of them some time after his father’s murder. Although Sariss became a jedi knight before Cael (Sariss was Grey’s first student), the two quickly fell in love during their years of training and experiences. Novastar, although not against their relationship, offered no encouragement—fearing that somehow their connection could force them into making “emotional errors” that could later cost them their lives.

HISTORY regarding Valaris Skyblade: Novastar and the dual-saber wielding Valaris Skyblade were good friends at the academy, and although each were from different planets—the two trained together and learned much from one another. Both were on their way to becoming a good team for taking action on critical missions in the future, and each was extremely enthusiastic about making a difference for their cause.

After Greytale made his horrible mistake on Armistice IV (the space station), he withdrew from friendships—even his strong bonds with Valaris. Valaris continued his training, becoming a strong and powerful Jedi Guardian. Out of respect for the Novastar family, who had been integral in his relocation to be trained as a jedi from the beginning—Skyblade swore that when the time came, he would follow Greytale on any mission to defeat Necrolosis and his Sith—or die trying.

HISTORY regarding Balance of Power, Episode II: “Ashes of The Phoenix”…

Years later, when Greytale Novastar snuck on board Necrolosis’ flagship “The Phoenix”, he was taken by surprise and killed by the dark master, who was disguised as a simple battle trooper. Novastar survived long enough to be an integral part in defeating Necrolosis, sending him to his supposed doom down his own floorlift.

As Alexandra and Cael make their attempts to escape The Phoenix (which was plummeting toward a planet), they find their way blocked by a shield and blaster defense system. Moments later, they learn that Master Terek Halcyon is deep within the ship’s bowels, disabling the defense system so that Cael and Alex can escape. It is assumed that he is lost when The Phoenix finally crashes into the planet.

The only known remaining Novastar… is Alexandra, who—at the time—was 12 years old. She was not even a Jedi Knight at the time of her father’s death.

Master Zorn Tel-Visshor died some months later (of old age), leaving only Master Valaris Skyblade and Jedi Knight Cael Nordiun to keep organization and structure within the jedi of the world of Balance of Power.
