Well after a year of this and that i have finally settled on a great design for my first MHS, INFURIOUS! here she is:

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg305/MalakiSkywalker/INFURIOUSV1.jpg

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg305/MalakiSkywalker/Customwork.jpg

Its my B-Day in April and I'm hoping to have this for then

Parts:
Screw on LED blade holder style 6
MHS thin neck "choke point" section
MHS ribbed extension v-grooved
4" Double female threaded connector
MPS Pommel style 3 OR 4
MPS Insert style 6
Black machined button for Covertec clip

Electronics:
Luxeon V Star (Green)
Crystal Focus V4
SPST Momentary Guarded switch with silver button
9.6V AAA 1800mAh NIMH Rechargeable battery pack

It will also have a recharge port, Tactile switch mounted on either a custom control box OR hidden under the o-rings and it will use a quick change set up.

Tell me what you think, cheers! :D

thanks!Open up THIS (http://k-squared.com/Lightsabers/Render%20Parts%20v2.bmp) image in the paint program of your choice, then simply cut 'n paste the parts together as a new image :). It certainly makes saber design a whole lot easier.

Example of a saber I may make one day (using the template mentioned above)...

What is the second switch for? You only need one on either the corbin or ultraboard.

Good luck on the fit too. It'll be tough... frankly I don't think it will happen. The guarded switch is deep from what I understand and Corbin's can only go on the bottom section. The pack will poke out a bit from the ribbed section so that takes out even more.

Hasid Lafre

Yes go with the tripple A pack or the 7.2V pack.

get the 7.2 pack and run a lux5.

yes the guarded switches extend almost all way through inside, just a lil shy of hitting the other inside wall. so you got to protect the switch from say the batt pack sliding up and shearing the switch off.

The second switch is for the C&L effects of the Corbin driver, about the room... I'll figure something out LOL

Well sence space looks like an issue I would use a congrol box of some sort and use smaller switches.

Malaki Skywalker
04-01-2008, 11:49 AM
Hmm, I've now decided I'm using a 4AAA pack, I'll put it in the Ribbed section.
If i have the switch right next to the o-rings, will that give me the space for the corbin driver?

If all else fails, I'll go with Hasids idea, but instead of a box I'll get a MPP clamp and stick a tactile switch out of the store in there :)

Hasid Lafre
04-01-2008, 11:54 AM
Well the corbin board will only fit in normal mhs sections and requires moderate sanding on the sides to fit. I forget the length but its possible that it will fit in between the ribbed sections threads and your switch but it may be a tight fit.

Maybe tim could put the drivers dimensions in the product description.

Malaki Skywalker
04-01-2008, 12:03 PM
Its already in there "Dimensions are 1-1/4" x 1-5/8""

I'm using 1.25" PVC Pipe to hold the guts in, will this fit in the ribbed section?

Hasid Lafre
04-02-2008, 10:42 AM
No, the normal mhs id is 1.25" so sanding the pipe down will be needed a little bit.

If it's the thin stuff the sanding will do no good... you'll sand it out of existance before it fits in the ribs.

If i have an Ultra sound in there, will there be enough room for a 4AA pack then?

Hasid Lafre
04-03-2008, 02:34 AM
An ultra sound is the same size roughtly as an mr board.

Persionally if you got spacal issues and dont mind it, I would get an MR yoda board. but resoldering the clash sensor back on that is if you dont destroy it taking the thing apart. then you could have room for a 4aa pack. I beleave that the yoda board is small enought to fit on a 4aa pack in a standard mhs section. a ribbed section Iam not to sure about.

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/vortextwist/light%20saber%20pics/Yodafxboard005.jpg

The dimentions iam not sure of, I only physically looked at a yoda board for maybe a min.

Malaki Skywalker
04-03-2008, 02:37 AM
Hmm... I'll keep to the 4AAA just to be safe

Hasid Lafre
04-03-2008, 02:39 AM
Yeah, the almost extra hour runtime will hardly be noticable. I mean when I got mine I used it alot and had to recharge it at least twice a week but I got to the point to where I wasent using it as much and would let a single charge go for almost a month.

You could set it up so that you can remove the battery pack and change it out for another thats already charged. Granted thats pricy but if you got a couple sabers with teh same setup and go out for a con or something then you could just change them out and have one ready on the charger and one ready to go.

I would also do a kill key setup. that way you do save battery power alot longer.

Malaki Skywalker
04-03-2008, 02:41 AM
Whats the charging time like? an hour at the most?

Hasid Lafre
04-03-2008, 02:42 AM
Probly around there. After the first few inital charges it should take a little less time. something has to do with the battery has to remember charge or some thing like that.

Malaki Skywalker
04-03-2008, 04:16 AM
I have the dimensions for the Ultra sound, 1" wide x 2" long x .3" tall, this will definitely work?

Hasid Lafre
04-03-2008, 08:06 AM
that for the v1 or v2? the v2 will be about the size of the CF last I knew.

Yep, The 4" section and blade holder will have clear coat, Pommel and ribbed section will have solar flat black, and the neck will now Copper metallic, I've kinda gone off the gold

04-08-2008, 08:25 AM
I've decided to add an parks R style control box, whats the best way to mount one of these? I thought about using a countersink, and using a button head screw. If anyone has a spare one they went to flog I'll have it :D

Hasid Lafre
04-08-2008, 08:32 AM
Best way to mount it is to drill a hold in each end and bolt it to the hilt.

You got a render idea as to where to place this box?

Persionally I would get a black lazer cut clamp thingy, then you can mount the switches in that have have more hilt space.

Hasid Lafre

Well which ever AAA pack you decide to go with will save you space eather way bu tI would go with the flat stick like AAA pack, that way you(if you can) mount the sound board on top of the battery pack and thats saving a bunch of space.

Not to mention a side by side 18650 pack of Li-Ion batteries will not fit in MHS parts or 1.25" sinktubes. It's 36mm (~1.42") wide.

Li-Ion packs have protection circuits built with them, so no crispy lightsabers. That's a debate we can re-hash another time.

Hey guys, I've ordered some stuff to build my own battery pack for Infurous:

Vapex 2900mAh AA Pack of 4:

http://www.vapextech.co.uk/acatalog/High_Power_Consumer_Batteries.html

I have been told by a family friend, who's hardcore RC car fan, who builds his own packs, that these are the best on the market :D Which I have yet to find out lol

AA Battery Bars (Silver)

Tamiya Lead Large - Plug & Socket, are these the same type used on the packs in the store?

AA Flat Pack Heat Shrink ( 68mm Wide )

I also have Flux core solder, I know Flux is used in battery pack building but will Flux cored solder work?

I'll tell you guys (Along with pics) how it all goes! :D

Kant Lavar
05-02-2008, 05:11 AM
Well, I can't tell you much, but I do know from doing airsoft that the battery leads used in the store are actually mini Tamiyas. If you don't feel like getting that plug, you can get (if you can fit it in there!) a large female Tamiya connector and drive off that - the only real difference is the size. Large Tamiyas, in airsoft, are used in full rifles that have solid stocks for battery storage (for example, most M16s do this), instead of having to do a battery in a PEQ (laser) box or another external storage option, where you want more manuverability in your wiring.

Drichar Deis
05-02-2008, 09:27 AM
ooh! hang on have I read that right?

I can use an airsoft battery on my saber?

Ive got an M4-Carbine that just dosnt get used so it might get a new purpose!

Kant Lavar
05-02-2008, 09:52 AM
Yes, you can. They're pretty much the same things. BUT! Airsoft batteries may not fit in MHS. (Haven't tried a sinktube saber, for the record.) And if anything does, it'd have to be the mini-style stick batteries. Forget nunchucks, forget PEQ box batteries, forget everything else.

Unless you're building a protosaber - then the PEQ box batts would probably be perfect... hmm... *plotplotplot*

Nice. I've got the ICS 10th Anniversary M4, which I want to get an M203 for. But my real passion is SMGs. I've got an MP-5, two P90s, an MP-7, and I'm going to get a UMP 45 when I get back from the World's Largest Kitty Litterbox. (Unless I decide to get another rifle like a G36. Can't make my mind up so far.)

Not so fast there...:p

G&G RK-104 right here. Don't dig the ARs very much.

Also, airsoft batteries are usually way too big to fit into a light saber. Stick batteries are too long (10" at least), and the regular packs are too wide. The only type I can see fitting is one of the smaller 7.2v batteries, which you can find at TCSS anyways (for cheaper). Don't even consider trying to get one of the 8.4v or bigger ones to fit.

For anything I order from overseas :???:. Torches, batteries, sabers, airsoft kit, bleedin' everything! The VAT I can live with, but the £16 'administration' fees levied by the Post Office take the biscuit. Maybe I'll get lucky this time, but the order will have to wait a while, as the speaker grill and 5° lens I want are out of stock .

I got three or four orders from Tim, and didn't have to pay any fees, but on my last order, I got nailed for $17 for "Handling Fees". I'm expecting an order any day now, and I hope they don't nail me again, but there's not much you can do about it.

I would say teh lighting makes it look a bit darker cause iam looking at my solar flat black on my hilt and it does indeed look a tad darker compared to the flat black on his hilt.

Do you have a solder sucker? If so remove the solder that's already on the pads, that should leave you with a nice, clean (and partly tinned) surface to apply some fresh solder to. Also make sure the nib of your iron is free from debris.

Nothing at all is sticking

You could try cleaning the pad with a pencil eraser, just in case there's any grease or oil on the pad (ie from a fingerprint).

Common problem.

Your iron is not hot enough, nor do you have quality enough solder to get it to stick to the pads on the K2. Solder your wires to the contacts of the emitter (the actual copper legs of the emitter). You may have to check to see how your optics holder will fit, but it will get the job done for you.

The K2 stars are hard to solder without really good equipment. All the ones I have used for customers have been soldered to the emitter legs.

Looks like the great times are over....

The thin neck has jammed its self to the ribbed section, that aint budgin...

Whats gone wrong???

xl97
05-09-2008, 09:06 AM
That has happened to me on several MHS parts...

check the threads.. as "I" believe those to be the culprit.. the threads on several parts (not all of course) were jagged and not smooth.. and hence jammed into either a sinktube adapter or choke into an extenstion piece..

after much elbow grease.. rubber straps.. tape, towels and a vice.. I got tings apart.. however the choke one needed to be professionally fixed at a shop.

make sure the threads are de-burred and clean/straight..other wise you will risk possibly loosing both parts.. YIKES!

I have NOT seen this on my last few orders though.. that was ove the last month or so..and consisted of blade holders and extenstions.. so I dont know if was just a 'bad batch' or what... :)

I had this happen on some of my sections too.I fixed it by squirting some WD40 on the joint and after waiting a few minutes to let it soak in, I tried giving a firm twist to the sections and they separated easily. On examining the threads it seems some dirt had got in so I cleaned all sections with WD40 and the problem hasn't reappeared.

Very cool saber you've got there.Hope it fixes easily.

As you can see, I've put the recharge port on the side of the 4" section, I didn't really like the idea of a recharge port on the pommel, I wanted to go for something different

Just waiting to order a Lux Blue III, and I found a new battery pack :D

Malaki, is the gold choke point the TCSS gold powder coating? No offense to Tim but I had that done to the choke point I bought and it ended up looking more like a Grey Poupon mustard color than gold. Your pictures definitely look more brass/gold than mine did.
