With Tim's permission - I'd like to invite you all to join with me in making a difference for the less fortunate... by way of our shared hobby.

I'm raffling off this custom saber - the proceeds going to World Vision, and their efforts to combat the Aids crisis in Africa.

It's got a red 3W lux, and hasbro Vader sound with a 36mm speaker. It's set up for 3 AA batteries. It will hold a CF if you want to upgrade it.

Pitch in to the tume of $10 a ticket - any way you look at it - you win... but you just might have this saber shipped to you at no extra cost! (no blade included)

Hey there Rob... great idea! Tell you what... I do not want to have a chance to win the saber (let it go to someone else)... but I *WILL* donate $10.

Sound good? :D

Let me know how I can do it.

I've already bought a ticket, after seeing the post on the FX-saber forums.

Brilliant cause, again good luck with this Madcow and I hope you sell more than 30 tickets. (Even though it will lower my cahnces of winning!)

I'll be in as well....before the deadline of April 14th.
I have been supporting a girl in Kenya for about 4 or 5 years now. My church got together and took all the kids in one village.....
great saber too!

Like you said...either way you win!

DACOTA

Explain how you win either way. I'm just confused on that.

Because... Its for an important charity. So you win by giving. Even if you don't win the saber... I think that is what was implied by "you win either way" :) :) :)

Karma is a very good thing to have on your side...
sometimes, better than the Force...

I agree, any good karma I can get right now would be a major help. But I also say that it's a small price to pay for the chance to own a very nice looking saber.
Of course, you could undo all the good karma by being an ass and bragging if you win it: "Yeah baby, I call it 'charity' cos I donated to Africa or something to win it. I'm totaly humanitarian and stuff."

Nah, nobody's that crass, are they?

... yes - you win by giving.
That's the idea.

We're up to 22 tickets sold!
But the best thing for me - is that I've talked to people who want to help do this again - or find their own way to make a difference.

Keep buying tickets!

Cheers,
Madcow

I'll have to check my finances.

You can never have enough good Karma & I always wanted an MC saber, so +10 on the 'either way you win' idea!!!!

Thanks guys,
Every Jedi is... "in for a good cause"?
I'm impresed by all the support. We're over 35 tickets now. Any way I figure it - this is now more than the saber could have got on ebay.

Less than a week left!

So whoever wins gets the saber for a bargin, but the charity gets more than one person would have paid for it. Seems like you found a great way to raise money, kudos to you for the charity work!

It's definitely a great idea. You gotta let us all know when/if you plan to do this again. I'm sure you'll get a lot of support.

Ha Ha! That's awesome! Who'da'thunk a Millenium Falcon had so many uses?

I know it sounds cliche, but seriously (and literally), the world would benefit from this kind of attitude. Thank you for this, Madcow - you're a class act!

UPDATE,

I just donated the funds today. After talking to a rep on the phone - I decided to do this with the money...
http://www2.worldvision.ca/gifts/app?service=external/Gift&sp=l1826

$400 runs this mobile medical center for a whole month.
The balance went toward food for the children there too.

Thanks for making a difference - we may have even saved a life!

Exellent! A good choice!

I am also partial to Heifer International (http://www.heifer.org) where your donation goes to purchasing livestock (from bees to cows) for needy communities. Sort of the old "teach a man to fish" saw.
