Let me know which of these you would like to see made for the modular hilts. I will make others like the "sink knob" ones later on. If you have some other basic design that would use the same dimensions as these feel free to post a sketch.

is a ball on the end possible?

not quite, but I like it anyway. I had a plain sphere in mind, looking kinda like a microphone windscreen. actually a mic windscreen would be cool b/c you could put a speaker in it.

Okay, here's another idea. If you cut out the inner ridges and lined it with wire mesh I think it would make a rad speaker housing too.[8D]

Strydur

added xwing's

I could do one up to hold speakers...but I think I will have to make it for MR size speakers and not Hasbro's as they are too large. If I sourced some speakers and then made a end cap to hold them would you all be interested in that? If so I will do up some design Ideas for them..maybe just convert the end cap you all vote as the best to also hold speakers. Toss me your ideas, I want to make stuff you all want (makes it kind of easier to sell) [8D]

Strydur,

I would definately try to incorporate the speaker option into any design. A seperate design for the Hasbro and MR is also a good idea. I know I have a Hasbro speaker I will be working with for my saber and a hilt already HSR (Hasbro Speaker Ready) would be a big selling point.

Good luck!

You could put a speaker hole in the bottom of my #5. It would work pretty well.

LAN-ED-TUL
02-16-2006, 11:25 PM
oh yes, most definately, you need speaker setup in any of the designs. i think, if you made the screw on part, the end that goes to the main handle, the size it needed to be, and then towards the end, have it stepped up in size, and in the last section step, have this screw onto the pommel. and in that last section that screws on the pommel, theres the place for the speaker. then it could be machined on the inside of that cap, so to speak, to fit either MR or hasbro speakers. i dont have any drawings, but i think tim will understand what i mean.

this setup would please both the MR and Hasbro users. and possibly even in the section that screws on to the handle can even be slotted to accept the sliding of a hasbro board in it.

If I ordered my MHS now, could I just get a new pommel later? (probably a dumb question, but w/e...)

Yeah, I figure that even if Tim never got around to making the slits go through and adding speakers that it wouldn't be that hard for us to cut/grind out our own slits.

The Obi-Wan thing would be way cool but I am guessing ( don't have equipment myself) that it would be a bear to make. I very well may be completely wrong on this but I believe that the machines used to do come up with hilts and parts only cut in a line while the object is moving and anything that could make this design would be more of large commercial scale. Again I went the electronics route though school/career so I may be mistaken, but I haven't seen anything made like that on a small scale.

Would it be too difficult to convert the basic pommel design to hold an MR sound speaker/battery pack? It would only need holes in the end as has been shown before and assuming that the contact pins were replaced with wire connectors, then perhaps a set screw in the side of the pommel would hold the pack in place. This would allow an easy conversion. What do you think? In the case of the saber design I am currently working on, my pommel would sit directly on top of the modular one and be held on by 1 screw up the middle of it.
