I started a second costume while I'm waiting for the rest of my Boba parts... Here it is so far... I'm doing everything on this one, except for the fitting. Tazrob has to do that for me since I'll be stuck inside of the armor. All prep, and paint, will be done by me though. :)

Looks awesome! How the heck do you make these?! They just look so movie worthy and just wow!

I didn't BUILD build it... Someone did vac pulls for the armor, and the helmet is a MR cast. When I say build, I mean that I take the raw pulls/casts, trim them, fill them, paint them, and assemble them.

Just wanted to be clear on that so nobody thinks I'm trying to take credit for someone else's design.

Here are a couple more pics... I darkened the shoulders, and the silver on the helmet from the original pics. The helmet still had some flaws in it from my 'too quick' prep work, so I did a matte coat and some misting to cover it up and also to make it look less 'painted'.

The raw silver before was just too clean looking and was driving me nuts against all of the other weathering. I think it still came out pretty well... Less chrome'ish now, but I actually like the brushed aluminum look.

Yay or nay? :?:

I think green goes really well with the CT armor. that and gree seems to be the most underrated commander.

I wish I could figure out where in the hell you get armor. I've poked around the 501st boards a bit, but a lot of the guys making it seem to "know a guy" who has a vaccuforming table - a little out of the budget of a US Army PFC. *grunmble*

From what I've been reading, if you want quality, you'll have to pay for it... Otherwise, its eBay armor for you, and they say thats ALOT of work to correct the flaws. My armor isn't high end armor either, so don't feel bad if you have to go budget.

Hell, I'm not even looking for a whole set (though if I could find an affordable set, I wouldn't mind). For right now, just chest and back. Paint those a nice deep deep blue, then combine with a utility belt, boots, and suitably Star Wars-y shirt, pants, and coat. Then lightsaber and one of these (http://store.matrixbb.com/servlet/-strse-29119/%28Pre-Order-ETA-cln-4-fdsh-20-fdsh-08%29-Star/Detail) as a blaster rifle. And then I have my custom bounty hunter-turned-Dark-Jedi character.

Thanks for the tip - I'll be keeping my eye out.

Wow ds 2k2 that steel blitz guy sounds like an ass with his head up his ass. I wonder if hes got a glass stomach to life a day to day life.

I agree with your comment about you not making it for him. I think its absurd that people charge outragious prices for armor. If you can do really good with a 500$ kit then more power to ya.

Tell them people that pay $3K for armor are reatarted and need to get creative.

Good luck mang

I don't know whats up with him lately... He lives close to me, and had wanted to get together to hang out and stuff, then he pulled a 180 in attitude. I guess there was debate about the armor that I'm using, but none of that has anything to do with me. I got it second hand out of someones garage... lol... I thought costuming was supposed to be fun, not elitist. Meh, whatever. ;)

YEah, But latly I have been seeing that elitist attitude from all forms of groups. Hell its happening in the RL even and the 501st have alwase had that Iam better than thou attitude.

I just give up on them. I just use the forums to gather info and such.

costuming is about costuming, I wonder when that elitist attitude came about??

I am very impressed with what you are doing with this armor and to heck with the accuracy twinks :)

Costume groups are scary places full of people who long ago forgot why they are doing what they are doing and have made it into a matter of life and death. I try to avoid those people.

Fun people who do fun things for fun, those are the people to have around!

In defense of costuming groups, it's not all like that.

I'm a member of SciFi Hero (http://www.scifihero.net), and I can't think of a single intsance where we've come down on anyone for doing a less-than-canon costume. Some of our better ones have actually been less than canon, and we have whole subgroups centered around things that were never seen in our subject matter TV shows and/or movies - for example, a US Navy F-302 squadron from Stargate SG-1.

(Granted, a Nomex flight suit only costs $150, as opposed to thousands for a stormtrooper kit, but my point remains.)

Not a member of the 501st nor the Rebel Legion, so I can't speak to those. But I know my chosen group rarely if ever uses a "holier than thou because my costume is canonical and/or more expensive than yours" attitude.

that's good to hear cause armor or not my lightsaber will still end the fight lol those items look great man I am all for people building thier armor and customizing it, if we wanted to all remain canon then yeah save your money and get your 3k suit, but for me i'm doing all my armor out of custom vats, and will not look like stormtrooper at all but I will still have a line waiting to take pics with me at our local fest.

To be fair I do know a lot of really really cool costuming people, many of which obsess over accuracy and detail to a frightening degree while still remaining supportive and enthusiastic. I don't want to say that anyone who likes to replicate costumes or props is an anal-retentive jerk.

Just that whenever large groups of people come together under the banners of accuracy or authenticity you are going to get a whole lot of people who are going to take it to a level that I myself have no interest in dealing with. To whit calling someones efforts to put something together for fun an insult to everything they stand for.

This is of course not unique to costuming in any way, it's just the place I see it most often :)

Part of why I love this place is that so many of us are interested in doing our own thing, our own take on the object of our affections (The Saber) and while we appreciate a well made replica, and the work that goes into that, we also truly love the works of art we are producing in the form of our own unique and original hilts.
