Yeah, grab the simplicity pattern while it's still around in stores. The female ones are #4433 and 4443. 4433 is the white battle outfit/aalya secura, and 4443 is one of the large dresses and the Leia white dress from ANH. They're not being made anymore so I'd grab them. I grabbed 4443 and 4450 (jedi costume patterns).[8D]

Hey LAN,
where did you get that awesome belt buckle, and CD player from?? [?][^]

LAN-ED-TUL
02-15-2006, 11:21 PM
i got the cd p0layer and buckkle off ebay. i had to reuse the plastic backplate as the metal one was too wide to fit into the recess notched spot on the cod. and after i tried to mod it to fit, i kinda messed the backplate up. so i did order another to try later on again. but for now, i just used the front aluminum round and flat slotted parts with the old plastic backplate. and ya know, it still looks d**n good. it sets off the whole belt now.

i have that benifit im doin on march 4th and i will get pics.

well i did use your pic, and just pointed out the areas i made mods to mine. and i slapped pics of what i got that went there. the dude i got mine from was russels replicas. hes outta the UK.

i know, i just havent got any pics yet of mine, i will i will.

the one i got from the dude on ebay was both a metal backplate, powder coated black then clearcoated 3 times. the flat part of the front side is one piece machined with slots laser cut. then the round circle is machined and on the back, part of it makes a bolt going back in the center. he drilled a hole thru both the flat and the backplate. and the circles bolt goes thru the flat part then the backplate, and the the belt, ya have to poke a hole, and held with a nut.

i didnt like the fact the bolt is off to the one side leaving no anchor to the belt on the right. so as i said, i ended up usin the old plastic rubies backplate, new one was too wide to fit the cod recess. i used a big flat washers on the backside and i also cut off the bolt when tightened down of the extra stickin out past the nut.

i then thought, i have these 4 holes in the belt thats covered up by the new buckle, but its not secure against the right side. so i used a black wire tie and poked it in the slot that lined up with the holes top and bottom on right side. i then pulled it up tight, poking the wire down good inbetween the slot, then twisted it up tight in back, cut off excess, and there ya go, good ans secure on both sides. and the neat thing is, unless you get within 2 to 3 inches of the belt buckle, you cant see that wire at all.

Hey, it's kind of coincidental that the boots I bought to give me a slight heighth increase, so I could be closer to Vader's actual height, are on that webpage with your posted costume vamphunterx [8D]

Today I found a belt clip for the saber, for the Vader costume also!!!
Now all I need is a sheath for the Poly C blade, so I can carry it with me hidden, while the saber is not "in use".[8D]

A lot of dedicated convention goers make a long pocket in the robe to store a blade/blades. I'd put it in the back so the weight helps stop the billow from getting to big.

i made from a piece of vinyl lined with red felt a type of gun sling lookin thing to carry my blade in, el or led, doesnt matter. i have a strap and buckle so i can wear it over the shoulder, and reach back like robin hood, and draw out the blade. or just have a friend carry it

on another note, i found the 9 volt amped speakers at radio shack. they work great. im gonna use one for the cdplayer with the breathin cd. that sucker is way loud, using that speaker. and im using another one on the voice unit. im gonna try an experiment monday using this speaker and im gonna get a mike i seen that should work really well, and hack the wally world voice box. make disconnects on it and hook up the amped speaker and new mike, it should make that thing loud. cuz, actually that wally box sounds pretty good, for my situation.

right now i have the kit wired up for the amp speaker and mounted the board inside a calculator casing, taped it to the downstrap on the mask. run the mike cordaround the edge of mask, tack hotglued in place. and made a removeable mike holderwith mike in the bottom of mask right behind the grill edge.

then i have a mono jack wired for disconnect outside the casing and it hooks up to speaker. which will run under the shoulder armor and inner robe to a spot on left of chest box. velcroed in place.

i plan on doin the same on other side for the cdplayer amped speaker. i hang the cdplayer, off the cod strap so the inner robe covers it. also on the cod, i think i will take the middle strap and tape or tie it up and not use it at all. just use the main waist strap. al the nice cods i seen just have 1 strap and dont use the strap between legs at all.

only a few more days till debut at benefit. im nervous myself, wonderin if i have this thing all nailed down good.

hey no prob, wolverine. his lens are really good. you'll have to take your time removing the plastic ridges around eyes. do a lil, then check it, it may be slower, but you may avoid a big gap, someplace taking off to much in one spot. have you trimmed any off the neck length yet? i trimmed around an inch off mine. if you need any info on anything , feel free to shoot me a email, and i'll do my best to help. that goes for you too tetmatek. i know you got your suit, but are just startin out with the modding. and you got the right idea, too, slow but sure.

i hurried a lil bit on mine, but i knew what i needed to do from the start, so i had good head start doin some of the modding i needed to do. im a hands on kinda person, i hand make sabers, and other stuff, with no more than drill and bits, a dremel and accessories, and a few other odd and end tools. all simple hand tools or power tools. maybe some day i will luck onto a lathe. i wouldnt mind a mini lathe, you could do sabers in sectional parts, to compensate if its overall is longer than mini will handle. that sounds cool, maybe, someday,,,,,,,,,,, oops, daydreamin. lol

I'm thinking of making a Jedi costume, but I'm not sure if I should base it like ones in the prequels. Or just make one base from my own ideas.
Do you guys think it would be wrong if I make the costume based on my idea?

Not at all dude, There is a overwhelming need to be canon in the costuming groups that are always brought up and of course some folks are just snobs. Truth is that a jedi looked totally different in the 70's and 80's compared to what Lucas came up with in the last 3 flicks. If you are in to expanded universe then it gets even more diverse. I say that if you have a character/ costume combo that you want to do then do it.

Yes, my jedi costume is canon but I still haven't hooked up with a group yet cause I know I would get shot down with my boots. So have fun.

If you want to get it right the first time, (exactly the way I didn't [:D][:p]hehehe)
Then go to whichever costuming group's website that you are interested in joining, look over their forum boards, and find out from their membership liason what exactly are the sticking points they look for on your choice of costume. [;)]
That will make your goals a little clearer. [;)][:D][^]

Excellent advice Wolverine. I will say for Jedi it is ALL about the leather. If ya got good boots and belt you are pretty set. The lightsaber is not NEARLY as a big deal as the boots, belt, and of course it being some form of earth tone. Black tends to stay with the 501st unless you are strictly doing Luke ROTJ.

I can see why the 501st requires costumes to be 'canon' but it does mean we end up with a whole bunch of very similar looking costumes.

My TK & TIE costumes are canon but my Jedi is my own creation - still based on the basic formula but with my own ideas.

If you intend to troop with your chosen legion then go canon but if it's just for you, go your own way. You'll have much more fun doing it and you'll be unique!

I built a set of black armor for a friend of mine - he didn't want to wear it though, just have it on display [:(!]

Anyway, he's bored of it now so I think I could end up owning it pretty soon! That would be sweet.

I have plans for a 'Swoop Pilot' costume which would be most of the black armor but worn with my TIE pilot chest/back plates and incorporating the TIE helmet, hoses & chest box.

Give it a go! Assuming you have a little spare space and some patience, it's real easy to make the machine.

Anyway, there's other ways of making masks and armor - for example, the Revan mask can be made from Sintra (sign board) as it can be very easily formed using a heat gun or even hot water. You could always fiberglass the finished Sintra item for strength. Sintra is dirt-cheap to buy too.

Never say never though dude. It's amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

Very cool find!

Am I the only one who played Revan as a Lightsider?[:p]

I need to get a jump on boots and belt for my Jedi costume. My belt is ok for a quick dress up but it is to thin to hold a saber or any larger props. Boots, well, let's just say that it is a shame that Jedi didn't wear steel toe Red Wings[;)]

I have been looking for a long time at the one guy that has them on ebay all the time.

Yep! you did good[:D]
I have been working on a Sith that is a little Maul, a little Palps, a little Revan, and a little Sion. I love the combat style of the Maul and Sion but I have not been in my athletic shape for a few years now so I needed a little more cloak as well but didn't want full cover.

My Jedi is pretty much generic Jedi. I pretty much want to do the Rebel Legion and Jedi Assembly thing with that costume so pretty much everything will have to be nit picked to the detail. I love my Tunics and such but the leather is going to end up costing me no matter how chap I try to be[;)]

edit- Smokespoon has some REALLY cool stuff but he rarely seems to do stuff in my size so I am SOL for those. I looked at Qui-Gon boots before and the only ones that were in my size were like 400 bucks or something. Beautifl but pricey.

I've heard that this helmet is actually a harder plastic than the deluxe versions. The guy said that these have less flex to them than the other ones.

But thats the only good thing about it... It comes with inaccurate ear caps, and the brow is too thin. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone that is trying for a screen accurate costume, but its great for the kids.

It looks whiter in the pictures, in actuality the tunic is off-white/natural like obi-wans robes in ep.1&2. Its made of silk, and the color is just the natural silk color. The tunic and under-tunic i made, the outer robe is store bought, its the deluxe jedi robe, which unfortunatley means the hood is more like obis ep.4 robe. The belt is a tool belt bought from a hardware store with leather camera pouches attached to it. Im hoping to get a new robe, boots and belt soon, to be more accurate.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I had my mother sew this one and she's working on my girlfriends costume too. Its hard when someone who doesn't care about star wars or what is accurate to the movies does your costume but it worked out in the end. I'll be buying supplies to make my belt, and then either make or buy pants and boots. Lots left to do but I'm going to save my money to buy a lathe then I can make costumes to fit the sabers :)

Anakin based costume (although its a black cloak and I still need glove and boots) - the fiance made it for me :) Im hoping to top it off with a nice cuztom saber from this site if i can get some extra cash. also, didnt like the leathery tabard so just made it out of cloth which is lighter weight and good in florida. All the materials are pretty light (linen) which also helps in the heat.
really cheap costs to buy fabric and sew yourself (about 50 total for this one)

Is that really what i think it is? It seems like a lot of that is too thin to be real armor... some of it looks crinkled too. Is it like paper and silver spray paint or aluminum foil?

It seems very simple. Please do tell, if merely for curiousity.

chaos
10-20-2006, 03:06 PM
The shoulder pads are made from paper mache painted with silver paint.

The helmet and the rest of the armour is made from sheets of plastic (polypropylene, that I got from college), and painted with black then silver paint.

The robe its self is made up of three layers.

1-The first is a full length tunic that goes down to my feet.

2-The next is another tunic pritty much the same as the first apart from the sleeves just come down to just above my elbows but are then ripped along the seem up to my shoulder. A belt is then put on.

3-The third layer is the hood and cloak with no sleeves (sort of like anakin's cloak in AOTC), two tabbards down the front and one big one down the back.

My face is covered up with a fabric mesh so no-one can see it but I can still see through it!

How about more Good Guy costumes that don't use lightsabers?

I did this Rebel Fleet Trooper costume last year to have ready for San Diego Comic-Con in July. I still don't have photos that I think are good enough to send for admission for my growing costume collection in the Rebel Legion.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b8/JediLoreen/Fleet%20Trooper/SUNP0011.jpg

In September, I started working on the Endor Commando costume. I had the costume finished by the end of December so I could wear it to the Pasadena Rose Parade.

I'm still tweaking it a bit, but this has been submitted and approved by the Rebel Legion.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b8/JediLoreen/Endor%20Trooper/402322812_3ccfb5ab8d_b.jpg

My first approved costume for the RL was a generic Jedi. And while I still like wearing it from time to time, it was the only costume I had for 3 years, so now I'm enjoying my new costumes.

Thanks. To answer the questions though, I wore the belt to show how the whole thing would look if I had a proper belt. And to answer the second question, at the time I made this particular piece I thought that Anakin's costume in Ep. III was black. I obviously had some dark reference pictures and I now know that the actual costume is really dark brown.

What brand are they? Any info on them would be great.

Jedi-Loreen
06-17-2007, 06:42 PM
Gauntlets are a type of lengthed gloves, those are vambraces. I think for Martial arts. I thought I used to know a place that made them, Ravenswood Leather, but I don't see them on their website anymore.

I made myself some shorter bracers to go with my Jedi costume:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b8/JediLoreen/Leather%20Work/Bracer1.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b8/JediLoreen/Leather%20Work/Bracer2.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b8/JediLoreen/Leather%20Work/Bracer5.jpg

I also made some greaves for my boots that mirror the shape of the bracers, but with more tooling this time:

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b8/JediLoreen/Leather%20Work/SUNP0010a.jpg

Here are some other sites I know of that make different types of bracers

great question. they are called kote. they are part of the armor set used in kendo. mine can be purchased here:

for the record they do not sell these anymore, but they do have many neat sets of braces you may be interested in. fair warning though, i think they have excellent quality products, but cruddy customer service. it took forever to actually get my order (something like 4 months or so), and it was not easy to get in touch with them, and they were rude to my wife.

hey vamphunter. thanks for the comments. i think your costume is really nice as well. i agree that you need another belt though. If you are looking for simple and cheap I recommend just getting a buckle and belt blank from tandy leather. This makes an original trilogy style belt very quickly. If you are looking for more Old Republic style it is pretty much up to your imagination and you pocket book. if you've got any questions on belts let me know. I've crafted about 7 or 8 myself.

But I do plan on having a Sith Lord too eventually, I might post pics of my designs some time. Just a start, but hey ya gotta start somewhere... I'll have to update with better pics once I'm done. Right now I have a mask which is just a modified cheapo plastic plain male face mask. I have a black gi which I made a hood for and stitched right to the collar. Makes a nice Sith hoodie

In the works are tabards, an obi, a cloak, and a better face hood since this one's hotter than all-get-out.

i was so hoping MR would throw out a rots vader FX saber before they fold up shop at the end of the year on the Star Wars stuff.

I haven't had the heart yet to make it Luxeon or EL. It looks so cool with the old flash socket in place. I was a Navy Photographer in the early 70's and we still used them back then. Wish I had 20 or 30 of them now.

thats the nice thing about tims graflex convert, you dont damage the old core, you just remove it, and put in the convert part. from the outside, lookin at the pins, with a lil black paint in the circle area, it looks like the real deal.

thanks i appreciate the compliments. theyre not the best costumes, but for the money spent, its not bad. on all the fabric parts of mine, i only got 45 bucks invested, the belt, i made myself from tandy leather stuff, for 45 bucks. and my boots were 35.

the wifes uppers cost me 115, to have made, the pants were 10 bucks, the boots were 25.

my saber is a real graflex, converted into a luxeon with sound, and the wifes is a mace FX converted to a luxeon.

i had photoshoped the blades to show better, but for odd weird reason, everytime i went to do hers in the luxeon color she has in it of royal blue, i kept coming out purpleish in color.

I think everything looks great. Never concern about the price. I know a guy who paid over $1200.00 for his Jedi outfit, and I taught myself to sew, after 45years, and didn't pay more than $100.00 for my Nihilus costume, and I have had complaments from all over the world.

thanks you guys. it means alot to me, i highly value all your opinions.

wolverine, im tryin to work out on CS2 the motion blur stuff, you see sometimes in a blade swing. i found a couple tutorials but theyre for earlier versions, and ive been seeing what they can do to aid me figuring it out.

that lens flare effect at the blade contact point looks pretty decent, i thought. maybe a lil tweaking to do on it, but not bad.

Nihulus, dude, your costume is outstanding man!!!

very impressive work there. sabers darn sweet too!

heres a try at puttin in a lil motion swing.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c291/LAN-ED-TUL/IMG_0082mshottry.jpg

and a set shot i did the blades onto:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c291/LAN-ED-TUL/spar01setshot.jpg

wolverine, tell me what you think? am i goin the right direction tryin this, or do i need another approach, or modify what i did a lil bit?

this time i used the line tool instead of the lasso to make the white bar for blades. it does seem to make the core more colorful and brighter with the line tool. and its easy to round off the tips in background with the eraser.

i got another im tryin out, but its at a odd angle and the 2 blades dont seem to work out right, ones stationary, and the other is being swung down onto the other blade, but its the angle thats throwing it off.

lan i find if you do a slight Gaussian blur after you use the line tool, and then use the levels to sharpen it a bit, you dont even need to round the tip, it rounds itself

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/pockets_empty/Marottenmasserojedi.jpg

its the only rotoscope i could find on my photobucket haha. I use the method described here.

http://www.alienryderflex.com/rotoscope/

its worked well for me so far

just in case you were wondering

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/pockets_empty/Marottenmassero.jpg

thats the original. believe me, its easier to rotoscope over prop sabers than it is to erase rifles and completely fabricate false sabers haha

If they are using Photoshop 7 I have the LIA .ant Files which have all the presets they need for Saber effects. I can attach the zip file if they want it.

pockets, i did use a gaussian blur after the line tool, and then adjusted the colors and such out. for me, it was a simple 3 second thing to click on the background pic, use the eraser and round off the tip.

using the polygon lasso is faster for me, but the line tool does seem to make the blades look better for some reason, you end up doing the same things either way, but the quality seems better with the line tool, at least to my eye.

wolverine, thanks bro. your compliments inspire me! its always a good feeling to have a mentor be pleased with your work.

Nihulus, i did find a set of presets off a site and i tried to use them, but got more confused with it, and to me, it was just easier to either go with the polygom lasso, method or the line tool, and then the color settings, and gaussian blurs.

the way i have my layout setup, its just a few clicks to do the stuff, and the presets, are pretty much the same thing, a few clicks so end results are pretty much the same.

what had me puzzeled for a bit, was the line tool wasnt showing up in the toolbox tray, and i couldnt find it, finally did find where it was, and now its in the tray.

hers a composite shot. not the best, should of spent a lil more time triming us out of the old shot.

well, i have been busy. i am remaking her sash. this time its 6 inches wide, and all thats left is 2 strips of velcro and its done. i also added velcro to the shoulders on both our costumes and the tabbards too. to keep them in place better. mine had loops and buttons, but i didnt like it cuz it seemed to let the tabbards move out off my shoulders more than i liked.

i also did some vader work to , got a new headset mike for the hyperdyne unit. drilled and tapped a hole for a thumbscrew in my great saber, and im goin to my friends house tommorrow to practise our duel routine for the con in Oct. i'll be vader of course and he's a jedi i capture after the duel, by knocking him out against a wall with a force push.

claremore is like 20 some odd miles from tulsa, and ok city is a couple hour drive from there. whenever i trip down to TX, for anything, i slip over to 69 highway, and take that straight down to dallas, it turns into 35 highway i think it is.

so in general sense, im in the NE corner of oklahoma.
