Check out the desktops. I absolutely love the Darth Vader one. Is that not the coolest thing you've ever seen?

Be sure to look at the video of the steam powered R2-D2. Brilliant!

Pretty cool huh? I have seen these before, I had the Darth Vader wallpaper on my desktop for quite some time. I am really glad to see that Steampunk is popular with other saber builders! My projects have had to take a pause for a bit (Far to much University work at present). I really enjoy watching your steampunk saber progress Obi-dar, keep up the good work!

Unfortunately, I'm stalled too, but it's due to a lack of funds. I'm actually going to have to go back to my old pizza delivery job as a second income. I did two jobs for 4 1/2 years, and thought I could get away with one job, but I can't. Fortunately, I left on good terms and they were willing to take me back.

Steampunk is usually set in the Victorian era from around 1840 to 1900, but some of those drawings did have a slightly more modern look to them. Steam engines, brass, iron, rivets, and strange scientific devices are all staples of the genre.

I actually quite like a bit of the 40's in my steampunk, even things like Nixie Tubes fit well and they are 1960's. Although the film was a bit of a let down, I thought the imagery in "The Golden Compass" was also a nice blend of steampunk and a more modern styling.

Ah nixie tubes... I saw a great steampunk computer that had nixie tubes on the front.

It is a shame nixie tubes are so power hungry, I would love to incorporate them into a hilt some how. Actually perhaps even better, a Steampunk, Darth Vader style chest box. Now that would be pretty sweet!

Going off on a wild tangent here, I wonder if something could be made using modern technology that would replicate the look of a nixie tube while operating at lower voltages. Perhaps something using side emitting fiber optics or thin EL wire. Obviously there would be no commercial demand for such a product, but the prop building geeks like us would eat it up.
