View Full Version : My Parks Qui-Gon conversion

Hi all.

Well, after much swearing and fair bit of perseverance, I've completed the Qui-Gon conversion I've been working on for a bit. It's a major step for me from doing an Ultrasabers DIY conversion, so although it's not quite as clean a job as I would have liked, I'm really chuffed with it and enjoying it lots.

It has a Crystal Focus 3.0 powering a green Luxeon Rebel. The blade is a thick-walled one with Corbin film and PolyP.

Cheers to XWingband and Acerocket for sorting out a small run of custom pommels, which allow it to sing out loud and clear, to JediQuartermaster for boring out the bladeholder/emitter and blade components to fit this, to Erv for help and patience with the CF and to Parks for making the hilt in the first place. I finally have a saber I've wanted for a long long time!

Glad you got pics of the pommel too!

Hey Sethski, what kind of switch did you use beneath the red button? I might just use it

I didn't know Parks Sabers also did 'replicas' of the lightsabers of the films! Those sabers aren't displayed on their website.

He stopped making them in like 2000

Looks great! Congrats!

Eventually, I WILL convert my Parks Qui-Gonn.

What are you using for a power supply - voltage and battery size/style?

Well that explains. Thanks for telling me.

Yeah the quigonn and obi were under major scruttney with LFL but he also has the vos and jade sabers. but persionally i would attempt to make them out of mhs stuff first before dropping 300$ on a el no sound parks saber.

From FX-Sabers

The layout is: it has a (slightly shaved) 4 x AAA rechargeable holder/pack behind the red button, then the recharge port (and some wires), then the aux button with the CF (SD card-side down) sat on top of it with wiring running over the top of the CF, and the speaker at the back glued onto the hollow pommel to make a resonance chamber. I don't think there's room for anything else, although if you replaced the original on/off button setup with something lower profile that would grant a bit more space
Again, VERY NICE! I can't wait for my parts (hint X)lol. Anyhow I must know how you fit the CF in there?

I have asked Parks about their replicas and they denied ever making some, but I see them every where.

Is it to tight to get a double AA sized Li-Ion pack in there?

Darth_DevilGuy
02-24-2008, 03:39 AM
it's funny now all his sabers just vaguely resemble movie ones.

Hasid Lafre

Well parks is the origional designer of the jade saber before LFL got there hands on it and even his replica dosent match his own design.

I think you might get away with 2 end to end, but not side by side.

I cut the inner black metal tube so all that's left is what you see through the grip spaces. I also sanded the inside of the hilt to give a little bit more room that I needed, and I sawed down the pommel to the thread part to give me just enough room for the guts - I wouldn't have been able to screw it in all the way with this setup otherwise!

cool. that's what I thought you had done. Thanks man.

No worries, you're welcome.

Good luck and look forward to hearing more about it and seeing another one done. :D

Oh, SICK!!!!! :)

Nice work... and glad it worked out with the CF getting repaired. Such a nice Qui-Gonn! I am normally not a movie hilt fan, but it's probably the only hilt I'd EVER bother to own if I ever cared to do so.

Main thing I like is hearing/seeing a CF in most ANYTHING. That just makes a saber impossible to resist, heheh!

"IT IS USELESS TO RESIST!" (especially if you're going direct drive...)

Cheers dude!

It was a bit of journey getting there, and the CF indeed elevates this above my other sabers and means it gets played with the most - it still gives it the "wow!" factor to me even though it was installed quite a while ago now.

Of course I'm very chuffed that it finally worked out and support from yourself and Erv at the time of the CF accident helped waylay the "WTF have I DONE!" feeling that I had at the time ;)...

This is by far my favorite movie rep, I liked obi s first one but this was so smooth and simple but yet elegant. Yours looks great man.

I agree. I'm totally jealous of that saber. But...if I'm jealous, doesn't that mean I'd follow the Dark Side? And if I follow the Dark Side, why would I be jealous of a Jedi's lightsaber?

That is an awesome saber btw.

That is truly an awesome saber.I have a scaled replica of it and have been losing sleep at night trying to figure a way to make a full scale replica(with the exact grip style)and still be able to fit all the electronics.:(

Easy, lots of money!

You'd have to do it like Madcow did his and put the batteries milled into the back of the grips hidden by the shroud. Personally the grips are already different enough that I don't mind them filled in, and it certainly makes knowing where the electronics will go easier!

Yeah I really don't think too many people would even notice, some will but those who do notice will understand why when you turn it on. i've been working on mine for awhile and have the hilt almost done. Just waiting on some better optics because I want to run a 10w green LED. Probably no sound as i'm running out of room now, but it I can get my hands on a CF then maybe I will, too early to see. But I still think Xwings clear saber has got my wheels turning, I really loved that saber.
