As some of you may have seen, I recently picked up a Qui Gon hilt made by our very own Do Clo. It was Jonitus's, but he sold it to me.

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n187/aluke_2006/Qui%20Gon/DSC00661.jpg

That is the saber hilt without paint. Last Sunday I painted it with appliance epoxy and she's drying right now. I'll probably get ya'll a teaser picture tomorrow.

The saber will be housing a CF V2.5. I haven't decided on a LED yet, so by all means throw in your two cents ;)

Gotta go with the classic green..Make it at least a K2 LUX to make it nice and bright. Are you going to make the pomell flat in the grip area like the original?

This is the perfect time to show off the power of the seoul P4 green! lol Thats your best bet for an uber bright green ;)

I got a sample... the power sucked. I'm going to try the Rebel which I already had better results with soon.

Hey Xwing, where do you get your Rebel stuff? I'm thinking my upgraded MHS will run Rebels as well

led-tech.de

They have the PCB'ed Rebels and optics. Optics can be had in the US though.

Thats a pain about the Seoul... and for mounting rebels to a star, would a hot air station work? I've got access to one at school

US shipping estimated at 76 Euro... I've seen them and there is a reason I've been going to led-tech.

Maul, there have been optics for the single rebels for a long time now.

I said it that way specifically. It doesn't matter! Is it a single rebel? Yes, then who gives a flip what it's mounted on?

You can order the optics in the US too. The LumiLEDs distributor has the Carclo optics in stock. They carry the smaller hex ones too, though last I saw they were out of stock.

The pommel dosent look right for some reasion.

Sethski
02-22-2008, 05:45 PM
Wow - that's looking awesome! Do you have a cutout sleeve section in the pipeline?

Alias - I think that's why the pommel looks off at the mo. With the silver/metal sleeve part, the pommel will be pretty flush with that, so it won't stick out as it appears to at the moment.

Another nice saber-- one suggestion though-- loose the high gloss paint and go with a flat black.

Lord Maul
02-22-2008, 07:44 PM
JP, there wasn't really any choice for the paint color. It was gloss black or no black.

Sethski: I haven't cut the shroud yet...Trying to decide upon the best course of action for that.

Yea I have to agree-- it is going to be cool--- and you built it-- you didn't buy it then convert it, it's all you, and that is cool.

Just don't sell this one!

Lord Maul
02-22-2008, 11:17 PM
JP, she'll be sold. Someone has already called dibs

I hate to sell some of this stuff, but it has to be done to fund my projects.

what is the od of it maul. my parks one is 35.5 mm and 1.401 inch. I did call themand they would sell the shroud. maybe an option.

Lord Maul
02-23-2008, 12:14 PM
The OD is slightly under 1.43"

I've decided on the guts. Green K2, 4.8V 2600mAh NiMH rechargable pack, CF V2.5

Looks good.
I would reccomend NOT using sink tube for the sleeve part. If you can buy aluminum tube locally or at online metals - then polish it up and cut it out with a dremmel and cutting wheel - you'll be pleased with the result. But it is alot of work.

Really - if the Parks sleeve will fit - it's probably worth the cost.

A parks wont work unless he has the hilt lathed down .03. the parks is 1.40" where as maul said his hilt is 1.43".

Lord Maul
02-23-2008, 11:17 PM
I'd be willing to bet that a Parks shroud will fit. The 1.43" tubing fits VERY VERY loosely.

Vortex, did Parks give you a price on the shroud?

Hasid Lafre

LOL, Maul my brother never got a reply from parks about a shroud purchase. I even called then myself and I kept getting the run around.

i beleive hasid your wrong again:), we did get ahold of them for the id and stuff, I think they wanted 50.00$ for it. but It has been ahwile since we called them. don't think I even have the # anymore.

Hasid Lafre

Ok it was a long time ago, Like I can remember every detail. Hell I dont even remember what I did when playing mass effect lastnight.

But still I was correct about the run around on purchasing one.

Armonfire... I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the blueprints or whathaveyou came from the Sith Archives.-- http://www.sitharchives.com/

Madcow

madcow, where did you find that blueprint of the qui gon?

Yes - it was the Sith Archives page.

I took a long time comparing the blueprints to pics I found of the actual QG prop, and I was really impressed with the accuracy.

Not like the blueprints I tried for my Luke ROTJ saber (Francisco Garcia). That one had alot of errors I needed to correct.

Is the Parks sleeve aluminum, or is it stainless steel?

xwingband

Is the Parks sleeve aluminum, or is it stainless steel?

Stainless on mine. I honestly love that because the materials aren't spared. It's either stainless or anodized black. Parks does know how to make a good hilt.

Sethski
02-25-2008, 06:36 PM
The sleeve on mine is aluminium... well, I guess so, anyway, as it's not magnetic...

xwingband
02-25-2008, 08:43 PM
Magnetic is not really a great indicator. On mine it's stainless for based on the weight and there is a texture that can't be aluminum. Mine was made by Parks but is technically the run Darth Hez commisioned as that may be a reason.

Compared to my MHS and a tape measure. Pic is blurry as hell, I know.

I'll need to repaint part of the pommel...Not happy at all.
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n187/aluke_2006/Qui%20Gon/IMG_1381.jpg

The emitter line turned out a bit wonky, not sure if there is anything that can be done.

And one last pommel shot for the road:
