Parts:
4.8V 4 x AA 1.2V NiMH batteries
Latching push-button switch
1000mA buckpuck
Lux III LED

Buckpuck:
RED = VIN+
BLACK = VIN-
WHITE = LED+
BLUE = LED-

Will this work?

That will work just fine.

Could I add one of these (http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=2958) in 300 mA mode to get 1300 mA? Anyone have experience with them? How do you wire them - the buckpucks have VIN and LED out, but these apparently only have 2 leads on them, so it's not clear to me how they work.

Anyone have experience with any of these?

It would certainly be nice if you could run two of these (http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=2982) and get 1500 mA for $6.20, instead of the $30 two buckpucks cost.

At that price:D, I might have to get a few myself. I don't have any experience with them, but looks to be fairly cost effective.

Tim ordered some of those before to try and the results sucked. The actual output was eveywhere.

They're meant for flashlights too... I don't believe their settings are rembered so it's pointless for a saber.

Is there something you can do to a buckpuck setup to milk that puppy a bit more? Add in a resistor somewhere? Transistor... Thermistor... Price Pfister... Twisted Sister?

I've got a 1000mA buckpuck running one of my ambers now, but it's the same brightness as the other one, which is using a 1.2 ohm resistor to deliver about 1000mA. I'd like to be able to get closer to 1500mA, but besides being rather expensive to buy four 700mA buckpucks, I have a tiny hilt that is already packed full - I don't think I could even stuff two buckpucks in it.

In my experience (which so far is somewhat limited), pushing a buckpuck with less than 5 volts will not yield optimal results. Yes, it will work, but you're not going to get the brightness that you could be getting with 5+ volts.

oh i believe i would love to see a saber with both a Price Pfister AND a Twisted Sister... you have my vote for bad a$$ saber of the universe!!!

Below 6 volts the buckpuck reduces the output to extend the battery run time, I have found the sweet spot for a buckpuck is 9-12 volts.
