I thought I would share with you all some progress pics of my saber project. It is kind of a Graflex meets Steampunk. I am using a brass sink tube, a #3 blade holder and a #3 pommel. I still need build a crystal chamber to go between the 2 windows, and place a brown leather grip on the underside of the hilt, as well as about 20 small jobs. Anyway pictures speak louder than words so...

nice look, if I may ask how is the blade holder attached? I assume the two alen screws attach to whatever the blade holder is screwed into.

Thanks, the Blade holder is attached using Tim's MHS/sinktube adapter.

I can't find those anywhere that long around here.

yeah home depot has great plumbing supplies so long as you don't need to actually do any plumbing.

Try you local scrap yard. I went out a few weeks ago and got all kinds of tubing really cheap. I got some long brass sink tubes like that, and some copper tubing that just nicely fits over it. I got enough to do three sabers for under $20.

Clockwork, your saber looks good so far. Can't wait to see the finished job. I like where you're going with it, but are you sure there's enough room to do a crystal chamber and fit in everything else?

As long as there's no sound, I don't see why it wouldn't fit. A 2 on top of 2 AA setup would even work in a 1.5" tube.

It is going to be a tight fit for sure. I am going to go with Li-ion, which should bring the battery space down by a lot. I also understand that a CF will fit on top of a 2 cell (18650 sized) setup. The crystal chamber itself is actually only going to take up the top 2/3rds of the window area. I am going to see if I can fit a low profile switch under it for an Aux. button. I took all the component measurements and I shouldn't have any problems.

Steampunk, huh? Can't wait to see how this turns out. I'd love to do a leather and brass and wood type one myself someday.

I did a bit of work on the hilt yesterday, added the grip and the grill for the windows. I am wondering if I should put brass screws all around the grip, or leave it as it is, what go you think?

I would go with the screws all the way around. It looks like you just slapped that leather on it.

Yup that should help give it a "Finished" look. But speaking from experience, it will eat up some of the Inside diameter.

Digging the crystal chamber. I agree with Chase and Fender, go all the way around with the screws on the leather.

Get some brass machine screws. It's a soft enough material you can cut them short, file them flat and then screw them in enough to secure to the MHS parts without eating up the ID of the saber. That's what I did for the polished bands on the saber Corbin bought from me.

Drichar: Yeah I was thinking about putting a small tube (valve in the UK) on it some where, maybe where the fins are on a normal graflex? It would be awesome if I could fit an led in it so it lights up as well. what does everyone think? Putting one on the pommel would be easier, but it would block the speaker.

I think I will go for screws all the way around, I agree it will look better and have more of that steampunk feel I am looking for. It will eat up some of my limited inner diameter though. Does anyone have the exact measurements of a CF sitting on top of 2 18650 li-ion cells (side by side configuration)?

You could use rivets around the grip instead of screws, that would be a way to cut down the use of inside space without having to cut a bunch of screws...

Yeah I thought of that, but I can't find any brass rivets. I think I will have to place my batteries inline instead of side-by-side. Hopefully this means the lack of space on the sides shouldn't have a great effect anyways *fingers crossed*
