I was just wondering if anyone has sold one of their lightsabers on ebay or another site like ebay. Also if you did, did you make a lot of money off it

I would like to know what a good selling price for them is.

Hey dafourthg,
I have sold approx 13 lightsabers on ebay over the years. I get anywhere between 40-$150.

Mostly I sell just handles with no blades, but the market seems to favor bladed sabers or blade ready sabers.

I've seen "Ultraswg" and "Tetmatech" both do really well on Ebay, and another guy whose Ebay handle is "Slackfarm" have mixed results with multiple sabers listed. You do better if you can get a "lot" deal on damaged sabers for conversion, then it's not a bigger investment then the coversion parts are. [^][8D]

the only reason I would sell lightsaber on ebay is if I needed money to fund my lightsaber addiction.[:p]

I have sold a few sabers on eBay as well(10 maybe), but as far as profit is concerned....well, let me put it this way - working at McDonalds you'll make more money per hour. But when it's a labor of love and you'd be doing it anyway, profit or not, then its not so bad anymore. Particularly when it helps feed the addiction.
If you are considering turning it into a business remember you'll have to compete with Master Replicas and their penny-an-hour assembly line workers.

madcow, is that selling price or profit? I'd say it's selling price from personal experience. By the time you subtract taxes, shipping costs for materials, ebay/paypal fees you're not left with much, are you. The first hilt I've made was from Lowes parts on which I spent about $35. I sold it for $50, but subtracting ebay/paypal fees I made a glorious $10. BTW, I spent about 4 hours at Lowes to find the parts.

It was selling costs to be sure... ($40-50).
I just sold one - it was a half a days work and only went for $20.50[:(]

I only sell sabers on ebay to par for the parts to make my own... and yes, it is a labour of love.
Plus - with each saber I make - I learn. I learn what not to do - and what ideas rock.

On the note of selling lightsabers, can we sell lightsabers that are copies of those found in the movies. For example if I made a Anakin fx lightsaber could I sell it on ebay or am I violating any copyright law? I assume that as long as I dont say its an offical replica im ok but I was just wondering.

As long as you don't use MR parts there is no problem. They only care about big hitters anyway. Parks and Lighttech got sued and won.

I'm sure it doesn't matter to them, but that's the reason Parks and Lightech won.

Yeah, Parks and Lightech won. I guess the basis of MR's case was that they were making "lightsabers." I wouldn't worry MR isn't likely to tackle anymore lawsuits especially on ebayers.

cool. although my design im working on now i never actually seen anyplace. but i heard of it. its a great saber. my only limitation, of course, is blade length. tims got a 48 poly c im goin to get later this week. and with 2 inches in the holder, i'll have a 46 inch blade. course the blade is supposed to be over 9 1/2 feet long. that would be a lil wobbly. right now the handle is a 2 cell heiland with a 2 cell heiland extension, and tims holder will be screwed into the adaptor on the end so the holder will be flush with heiland end making it another 2 inches or so in length. this suckers gonna be long. kinda like what a wookie might use, if he did use a saber, lol

not making it for indoors. outside only, or just for indoor photos. it might take me awhile to get it complete as im tryin to figure out a way to make a claw style emmiter shroud for that blade end. i'll post pics when done.

oh, and this is the one i plan on selling on ebay too.

well, according to lore, the blade was around 9 1/2 feet long, but it doesnt say anything bout the handle length, but i assume it would be longer, makes sense to me.

That's very interesting...... Good for Parks and Lightech.Well, if it came down to it,The Parks and Lightech defense attorneys could have subpoena Graflex Armitage MPP and Homedepot with a written stipulation as a witness to their testimony. But I'm sure the defense attorney probably used everything in the book to prove these parts are originally replicated from the above 1940s vendors. Their statue of limitations probably ran out decades ago. There are all kinds of antique replicators. Monalisa is not going to sue Target for an ad campaign. Most of the Parks sabers as well as Lightech are so different. They mostly customized. We all know that.

i believe the only thing that could get anybody in trouble is if when selling a MR converted saber you should list it as such. If you call it your own creation copyright will apply. Custom sabers are free from all that stuff

Those prices are insane. Who would spend that much money on those lighsabers when you could just buy one from MR or the parksaber site.

Ok so I understand that if I sell a lightsaber using parts from MR or Parksabers than I should give them credit to avoid court. So if I create a Anakin lightsaber from parts from this site and say home depot and I sell it on ebay as Anakins lightsaber, I'm not in volation of any copy right laws?

Dacota, man I don't want to rain on your parade but I have been building custom sabers for a couple of years and the first thing I learned is keep them simple but unique, and keep your costs as low as possible so you can make a few dollars on them. The best profit I ever made was $80.00 on a custom saber and that is rare and if you figure in anything for your time you really don't make anything when it is all done. I happen to enjoy building sabers and I have had
several people buy more than one saber from me and the fact that they enjoy their saber makes it worth it. I have built some sabers for some local folks for their kids and the look on their kids faces is great. I guess what I am trying to say is you won't get rich but it sure is fun.[:D]

The local sales have been through friends that have gotten sabers from me and showed them to others who wanted one of hteir own or for their kid. So you can call that word of mouth advertising. I f people like something they will tell others. I am starting to branch out in sabers built to order so we will see how that goes.

I sell a saber on ebay every couple of months so I can afford to keep learning and designing new ones. I've noiticed the price I can get on ebay dropping because there are so many MR refits out there. Still, it's worth it for me, otherwise I can't afford this hobby!

I have found that the custom sabers do better because no one else has one just like it. There are two many people doing poor conversions on MR sabers and the price has went down on those.
