View Full Version : Blade holder??

I received a custom hilt today. I haven't measured it yet, but the fabricator said it's an 1" diameter hole. That being said, what would I need to get a LED and blade set up to hold in place. From what I can tell, it doesn't have a removable emitter shroud. The bottom end is removable for inserting electronics.

The custom heatsink and to keep the optics inplace use a cclip.

The heatsink offered by TCSS or CREATE a custom? Cclip? There's a thumbscrew near the emitter....i'm presuming it's for holding either the LED/heatsink or the polycarb tube/blade, what else would i need to create a hole for aside from switch hole?

Sorry for the n00bness...but didn't find anything reading the guides or stickies that applies directly to this that i can tell

I would guess the thumbscrew is for holding the blade.

the custom heatsink in the store will work. you will just need to use something to hold it in place, either button heads or a couple set screws. You can then hotglue the optics to the led or like sid said use a c-clip in the emitter to hold down the optics. I did this for my parks qui-gon and worked pretty well. Then obviously a switch hole for what ever electronics your gonna use.

Thanks for the input all...

What would be the best option if i want to do a quick-change kit (using this for two different costume styles & need two different colors)?

Would a C-Clip (still dunno exactly what that is) be an easy in & out or would the set screw be better for that. If the set screw, how many is best to hold the led/heatsink, would 1 suffice, or would two be better?

I agree the thumbscrew is probably to hold the blade...it only sticks inside the hilt core about 3 threads....would that be enough to hold the blade solidly or should I get a slightly longer one? I'm presuming a 1" blade would be a snug fit any way and this thumbscrew doesn't need to stick in far (is that correct?).

Now I gotta start saving up the $$$ to get the Lux III for the red i want :P

This is a c-clip:

The c-clip probably wouldn't be your best choice if you want to come up with a "quick-change" kit. They can be a pain to remove, and usually require a pair of snap-ring pliers to do so. It should only take one set screw to hold in the heatsink/lens assembly.

If you got that from conceptpropsinc, they are supposed to have a lighting system for their sabers, aren't they?

The blade set screw that you have should be fine, too. They don't need to stick too far into the hilt to put pressure on the blade.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, they offer one..but given finances, i'll probably need to build it in small steps.

I think i'm "straight" on what I need, many thanks to all of your replies....correct me here and i'll stop harassing you for now (until they come out w/ rebel optics :P ).

Tap new hole, thread it, then use set screw to hold heat sink
Lux III setup
Quick change kit
Current thumbscrew to hold polycarb blade.

EDIT: Read erv's guides 100 more times for rechargable setup
