You really should not look at post counts over a set period of time. Look at post counts versus useful content, or entertaining banter. More than anything you should consider the general gist of a poster from reading their posts... if you can stomach them.

Yeah. I hate it when someone makes a stupid thread, and then when someone tells them how stupid it is, they just go "I don't care."

That is why we need to invent over-the-internet shotguns.

the three i remember are

my first, a luke rotj disassembly thread, kinda got flamed, but it was my first post so they were nice

and my MHS thread, which wasn't bs at all and is about ready for a update :D

Now your defending him? Or just hating me?

I guess people just want me to give up and shut up.

Stay uneducated, then. I can't help it if I came from a day and age where people actually cared about how they wrote. That was long before the internet, when we had to take the time to write real letters.

In some situations SPELLING STILL COUNTS!

Theres this resturant chain at sme truck stops called grandmah Max's they have the max challange and wha it is is a 4lb burger. 2lbs of it is beef, 1lb is bun and the other 1lb is topings. if you can eat it in 1 hour you get a shirt, your pic and name on the wall of fame and a discount on your meal or something.

They cut it into 4, 1/4 size parts, its as big as a dinner plait and as tall as about 10 of them maybe a bit more.

I tryed this challange when I was 14 years old and I could only eat 3/4s of it.

But man it was a good burger.

I don't think he was actually biting it. It looks like there's already a big hunk cut out of it. (possibly part of which he's holding in his hand?)

That burger looks big enough to feed a family of 4!

I have a picture of the bite too, it was a really cute nibble comparative to the size of the burger, mostly a chomp of bun. The 4 of us did split the burger and brought a fourth of it home which i had for lunch today, incedentally. Why be such a skeptic anyway, what 4 year old boy do you know that would not want to take a chomp out of the largest burger they have ever seen? If you are cool enough in my humble and biased opinion, upon request i will provide a couple more pictures via pm if you want to see

http://www.weaponmasters.com/index.html?ID=0e97705940850e00825ac458b6324b5a&ITEM=PC54-077

Ive been wanting that claymore for years.

Jedi Belinos
03-15-2007, 11:16 AM
two reasons I wouldn't want that sword. The first is that with only a carbon steel blade its not as strong as a Damascus steel blade. Second reason is because it is so big and hard to swing with any accuracy. :D

In reality its not even a real Claymore. It is just a double edged long sword. It's a nice sword I'll give you that but in my opinion not very useful. It was made popular by a movie that in one scene has 600 years of weaponry coming down the hill over half of which had not even been invented in the time frame the movie is based. Just one of my personal peeves.

Ryma Mara
03-15-2007, 11:20 AM
The sword in the movie your thinking of is this one.

http://www.weaponmasters.com/index.html?ID=0e97705940850e00825ac458b6324b5a&SORT=&ITEM=PC54-069

Damascus steel isent cheap, atleast last tiem I checked. and carbon steal is plunty strong, Had a katana made out of one and trust me it was put thru some abuse.

Its like the stabe weapons there made from carbon steel and they hold up plunty strong.

becides the only accuracy you need with a claymore is to hit your target and cleave him. claymores wernt ment for chopping. mostly stabbing and crushing.

LordArgyll
03-15-2007, 12:04 PM
They were meant for chopping the legs off of armored horse, never for one-on-one combat.

Belinos may be thinking of the basket-hilted claymore, which is just a broadsword. The term "claymore" was used interchangeably with "broadsword" in that time period.

Ryma Mara
03-15-2007, 12:24 PM
Nost of the broad swords that I have ever seen were baskit hilt type swords with a 3foot or so wide as hell blade.

Lord Maul
03-15-2007, 02:58 PM
a while back i heard that a claymore only had the tip sharpened. the soldier would crouch and break the horses legs with the long edge and then stab the rider with the tip

Jedi Belinos
03-15-2007, 03:09 PM
Well yes the term claymore refers to a broad sword. The Wallace sword you linked to is similar to the one from the movie yes. In reality during the time when those swords were actually made and used LA is correct in that they were used solely for cutting down cavalry's horses. Those were not actually taken on the field once it was normal hand-to-hand combat. I'm just not personally a fan of movies that claim to be historically accurate and are no where near it. People see the movie and then go around thinking they have the right thing. lol. sorry just one of my rants. I'll leave this be.

Ryma Mara
03-15-2007, 04:06 PM
and I never said anything about a movie in the first place.

elrond.406
03-15-2007, 08:48 PM
So a claymore is just a sword, right?

Lord Maul
03-15-2007, 09:09 PM
yup. it is super huge so that it will withstand the blow from a horse running into it

Ryma Mara
03-15-2007, 09:23 PM
Well theres 2 types really theres the "Highlander" claymores which are a wider plade and then theres the low lander claymores which have a skinnyer blade.

The term highlander is really a status for thoes that are wealthy, then the low lander are the pore middel class folk.

the highlanders sided with the english and the lowlanders payed for it.

GFORCE13
03-15-2007, 10:59 PM
It's amazing to see how one small thing evolved in this Claymore discussion. The one thing I can tell you the battle in Rob Roy with the Claymore vs the Rapier, let us say he would have lost is fingers unless he had a chainmail glove. My friend whom is a master of the Rapier had friend whom wanted to reanact this battle and he won 118 out of 120 times against the Claymore, it is just a slow and cumbersom weapon but ultimately one of my personal favorites. As the Sticker on the Window says "Claymore Security Services" /Enter at Thy Own Risk
across and see my Claymore hanging there, I kind of think of it as a visual deterrent to breaking in my house.

LordArgyll
03-16-2007, 08:56 AM
The term highlander is really a status for thoes that are wealthy, then the low lander are the pore middel class folk.

The term highlander is for folk that lived in the highlands... the hills and mountains. The highlanders tended to be thought of as more wild and uncivilized. There were some clans that were wealthy, but I wouldn't say that was the majority.

the highlanders sided with the english and the lowlanders payed for it.

Eh? That's an awful huge generalization. Given their closer proximity to England's borders, the lowlanders tended to be more similar in culture to the English. The highlanders tended to try to retain their heritage.

Again, there are a number of highland clans that did align themselves with the English crown, but to say they all did is a vast overgeneralization. Loyalties everywhere were split between crown and country.

The Scots worst enemies were the Scots. ;)

what's the difference between mod and super mod nightwing? or super mod and admin?

Nightwing
04-17-2007, 08:49 PM
A mod is over just one or more specific assigned sections. A supermod is over all sections, and an admin has control over a lot of the board itself (that includes PMs and other stuff that would be non-accessible to a mod or supermod). Also, usually only admins can give someone powers.

Cheers to Nightwing. Also i will somewhat concent to Firebird on this one, You should have writen about TCSS. It is a place, you do spend a fair bit of time here, and it probably would have been much more fun to write. One thing i learned about in college after too many booooooring research projects, is that you should, when given the option, study something fun. Something that actually peaks your interest. The best speeches for comm101 were when people really enjoyed the topic. It shows in a presentation to a class just as much as it does in your writing. Ever wonder why you get the measly B when you spent oodles of time working on it and everything seemed fine... More of a life lesson i suppose, but cater to your interests and everything is more fun, or at least it is easier to make fun out of what you are doing.

One thing i learned about in college after too many booooooring research projects, is that you should, when given the option, study something fun. Something that actually peaks your interest.Yup. In my high school and early college classes, I've written papers on (and got the grades):

The Cultural Impact of Star Wars [100]
How Science Fiction has impacted Real-world Science [99 (just messed up a bit in the grammar, but it was a 9-page paper, and it was still the highest in the class. And it was two years ago.)]
How A Warp Drive Works [100]
The World of Fullmetal Alchemist (anime series) [100]
What it means to be a Superman fan. [100]
Character Analysis on William Riker (Enterprise-D's exec. officer, for those non-Trekkers) [96, but just because I screwed up at the last second and left a half-sentence or two. I'm gonna edit it and re-turn it in at the end of the semester so I can get a full 100 :D]
First-Person shooter game engines [100]

So... yeah. If you love what you're doing, you'll generally do well.

another pop quiz:

fatal kidney failure, they have proteins that bind the mercury until it is excreted, so mercury ingestion doesnt kill you. Renal overload and the resulting failure kills you. assuming you drink too much, drinking a small amount of mercury wont kill you. It wont even poison or effect you.

Lord Maul

nope. mercury is so heavy, that when it falls down your esophagus, it pics up a ton of speed. it would tear a hole in your stomach and continue down, until all your guts were destroyed. the poisoning would happen as well, but this would be the more immediate cause of death

thats just not true, nothing "falls" down your esophagus, you're esophagus is a long muscle and uses it pushes food down using a wave called peristalsis. which is exactly why you can swallow water upside down.

as for being "too heavy" you can swallow lead, lead is a slightly heavier metal than mercury. though you would die of lead poisoning.

although ingesting large amounts of mercury WILL cause poisoning and cause a heart attack.

I dunno, Pockets. I think liquids can slide down the esophagus.

best case scenario, no friction from the esophagus at all. drop a small ball of lead or whatever you want from 10 inches off the ground and tell me if you think that force is enough to puncture an organ. better yet an organ that can stretch more than twice is own size, so factor the period in which the stomach would stretch to slow down the falling object, and tell me if you think he's even remotely correct.

straight fact. he's wrong. it could not happen.

also take into account mercury's cohesion, it wouldnt be like pouring water down the esophagus, mercury consistency is far thicker than even maple syrup. it would most likely not "flow" like you would imagine

I would like to tell you (and your science "Teacher") something about mercury being "too heavy" and penetrating your stomach like a bullet...

One Ounce of Mercury, weighs......drum roll please.....ONE OUNCE! Therefore, even if it did "fall" through your esophagus, it wouldn't reach terminal velocity in the span of one foot or so. A blueberry is just as lethal then. Hell, water should shoot through you like a .50 cal then.

The term you want is Mass, not weight. Even then it wouldn't happen.

Which weighs more, Maul? 1lb of feathers, or 1lb of lead?

So... I just now remembered that I should post my review of Spider-Man 3. Nearly a month late. Oh well; enjoy.

This review was very hard for me to write, because Spider-Man 3 is so convoluted and jumbled that it’s very hard to examine. If my review doesn’t flow well, then I’m sorry, but that’s just the way the movie itself went. So, without any further interruptions, my review of SM3… (Warning, spoilers ahead. DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SEEN THE FILM.)

Spider-Man 3 is really three films, the plot points of which have been merged together. First, we have the Peter/Harry conflict, which is honestly good enough to be its own film. Second, we have the Sandman story, which is so incredibly ridiculous and unnecessary that I honestly wish that it had been omitted altogether. Lastly, we have the Symbiote Suit/Venom plotline, which is a very mixed bag.

Early in SM3, we see Harry suddenly attack Peter, throwing him into a jarring and quite exiting fight/chase scene. The way Peter took down Harry (the webline trick) was nearly perfect, and Peter’s realistic reaction to Harry’s fall was great. In superhero comics and cartoons, generally when someone falls down an alleyway, they just get up or are knocked out. Either way, they’re just fine. This time, Harry actually dies and Peter is forced to rush him to the hospital. Another great point in this is that Peter doesn’t just go “Okay, Harry’s my enemy now. Bummer.” He actually treats Harry as a friend, no matter how many times Harry tries to kill him. Also interesting is the fact that Harry gets amnesia. I’m not too sure what the point of this was, but I’m guessing it was so that Peter wouldn’t suspect Harry’s betrayal later on.

Also early in the film, we see Flint Marko, who quickly becomes the Sandman. An interesting note is that Marko is portrayed as “not a bad guy, just a guy with bad luck”. Throughout the film he steals money, attacks (and possibly kills) police officers, and yet he is still supposed to be this great misunderstood antihero? Right… The fact that he is Uncle Ben’s true (accidental) killer is even more ridiculous. So he just popped in and out, quickly dodging the camera in SM1? This is not only ridiculous, but screws with the main backstory of the hero. The event which gave Peter such motivation is now erased? The obvious reasoning for this plot scheme is to give Peter a new motivation: revenge. This of course leads to his donning the black suit. However, as a writer, I say that introducing an entirely new storyline merely for the sake of one small piece of the overall plot is completely unnecessary and nonsensical.

The last main storyline we have here is the Black Suit story, which involves the vengeful symbiote suit, the distracting affections of Gwen Stacy, and the rivalry and ultimate hatred of Eddie Brock. Once again, we have a story that could have stood on its own as its own film. Did the writers realize that this could be the last Spidey film and foolishly decide to throw all their ideas into one last conglomeration of confusion? This story is the growing undercurrent of the film. Peter’s revenge, the strain on the MJ/Peter relationship, and the ultimate, terrible result of Peter’s actions. Let’s start from the beginning:
• Peter’s uncle’s killer is found to be alive. What’s more, he just happens to be the Sandman. (Ridiculous coincidence #1) (also, what scientific research station on Earth does tests outdoors, with fences and signs labeled “experimental physics test site”?!? I seriously turned to my friends and asked them that same question, and they just shrugged and laughed at the ridiculousness of it all)
• Peter and MJ are out stargazing when a meteor lands no more than 200 feet from them, which just so happens to be carrying a web-like symbiote creature (Ridiculous Coincidence #2).
• Gwen Stacy, who just happens to be the Police Chief’s daughter, Eddie Brock’s boyfriend, and Peter’s lab partner (Ridiculous Coincidences #3, #4 and #5), is saved by Spider-Man (Ridiculous Coincidence #6), and later gives him the upside-down kiss, much to MJ’s chagrin.
• After Peter learns the truth about his uncle, he becomes vengeful, and the black suit is takes him to the next level.
• Peter supposedly kills Sandman, but later learns of the suit’s negative aspects, prompting him to remove it. (By the way, the image of the symbiote’s cells bouncing and “attacking” other cells is perhaps as silly and unscientific as if they had suddenly sprouted faces and stuck their tongues out at the camera.)
• Peter takes off the suit, but later puts it back on when he is thrown into emotional chaos.
• Peter hurts many people, either physically or emotionally, including MJ, Eddie, and Mr. Ditkovitch (though Mr. Ditkovitch’s softening towards Peter was a very nice touch).
• Peter DANCES. In situations where NO ONE SHOULD EVER DANCE. (I was, however, impressed with Tobey Maguire’s acting skill. He totally switched Peter’s gears and made it work.)
• The suit comes off, and lands right on top of Eddie (Ridiculous coincidence #7), who had been praying for Jesus to kill Peter. Anyone who knows anything about Christianity knows how silly this is, but it still made for a very chilling scene. It quite nearly made Eddie seem demonic, even before his transformation.
• Eddie becomes Venom, and hunts down the Sandman in order to join forces. (This makes little sense, as Sandman/Marko was supposed to be a “good guy in a bad situation”; he wouldn’t just switch to being a murderer that quickly)
• Venom and Sandman team up and kidnap MJ. (The idea of Venom torturing Peter emotionally was a great touch, and was very in-comics-character)
• Peter is forced to ask Harry’s forgiveness, which Harry eventually grants.

The element of the film which ends it all and ties it all together is ultimately that of forgiveness. Although Peter’s actions were greatly influenced by the black suit, he still chose to commit them, with the knowledge that he might lose himself. Therefore, he was still ultimately responsible for his actions. Similarly, Flint Marko/Sandman was not “a bad person”, and did not intend to kill Uncle Ben. However, he still attempted theft and carried a loaded gun with his finger on the trigger, therefore he is also responsible for Uncle Ben’s death.

As much as I dislike Mary Jane’s character in the Spider-Man movie series, she summed it up perfectly when she said “We have to forgive each other, or everything we ever were will mean nothing.” Peter not only had to forgive Marko, but he also needed to be forgiven himself by countless people. Eddie Brock, however, held onto his hate and was punished severely.

Rather than using the terrible (and, sadly, common) plot device where the main character says something along the lines of “Sorry, I was being controlled by an alien symbiote, and wasn’t responsible for my actions” and the girlfriend character replies “Okay”, this final point of forgiveness draws the film to a realistic close, and an important life lesson.

Overall, Spidey 3 is a VERY mixed bag. There are plenty of great fight scenes as well as the coolest superhero team-up ever to grace the big screen (not counting X-Men, of course), but there are too many coincidences for the storyline to be anywhere near believable. The movie was very rushed and lacked a clear focus, but still had a surprisingly good end message.
My Rating: NONE. Yeah, that’s right, I didn’t give it a whatever-stars-out-of-whatever rating, simply because the film is so jumbled that it’s impossible to rate as a whole! If you want an overall rating, read the entire review and decide for yourself.

I had a thought, and laugh in spite of myself every time this happens. Someone starts a pointless thread, or a useless one, or a redundant topic... the list goes on. What, may i ask, is the point adding comments to that thread with nothing other than "boy i sure hate pointless threads, kill it off, die thread die" and the like? Wouldn't it make far more sense, to not comment, and let the thread die a natural death passing into age without further additions? I seem to think that is some fudged up marbles, and that is no reference to prandial jocundity.
on a more snitzy notion, how about a slab of fudge and a good old round of gobstones... Anyone?

a friend of mine found this, is it a fan film? I have never heard of it. It was pretty good though.

Yeah; that's (I think) the biggest SW fanfilm ever made. It cost something like $15,000 to make. They even got the 501st to come out and help. :)

It was an intreating story but with everything damn near crappy cgi it looked fake. I dident like it. I loved reign of the fallen thou. less cgi makes better fan fim imo.

Nightwing
07-22-2007, 02:24 PM
I don't think you can call that "crappy" CGI. For one thing, it looks better in DivX HD. There it looks awesome; kinda reminiscent of Rebel Assault II (for those who remember that old game :)).

Hasid Lafre
07-22-2007, 05:42 PM
I dont know it just looked to smooth. I dident buy it for a second. If they had a budget of 20K they could of made it look less perfect and more like it would fit in with a star wars film.

Its just a general annoyance rant no need to pay attention.

Has nothing to do with anything here just me complaning about things out side of here.

So here I am surfing the web adding my info here and there that I have learned from here and there.

Someone chims in all butthurt saying everything Iam talking about if wrong and that I dont know what Iam talking about then they say there thing when half of what they said is right.

Then theres another thing. There was a discusssion about making something thats lightsaber oriented and I tell them that with the list of peramaters that people are looking for, that with what we have at hand it cant be done. then they go on to say that anything is possable and can be made. But the saber smiths dont have the kinda resources to get this made very cost efficent.

They get all butthurt that iam putting down everyones ideas and whatnot when all there ideas have all been thought up of already and have been put down by someone else who does machinging that its nto gonna work.

I try to tell them this and they just dont understand.

Heres another thing that pisses me off. When you tell someone fact info they put your fact info down with there half fact info and everyone else eats it up there like its gold.

Blah some people just annoy the hell out of me, and then some people wonder why I look pissed all the time. Cause iam tired of dealing with morons.

</rant> please return to your regular scedualed program.

There was a small suburb celebration in my neck of the woods this weekend and when my son found out there would be a starwars booth there, he figured we should both show up in costume. I figured it would be the local 501, and i was right, so we didnt look too out of place all jedi-ed up. Hung out with them for about an hour. It was pretty cool, i think Darth Vader was a little miffed because everyone wanted to talk to and get their picture with Obi-Wan, didnt really mean to steal his thunder but what can you do? Maybe the kids found darth vader to be scary... There was a pretty cool Boba Fett costume(i think he is the local head of 501st), a couple imperial officers, another Jedi(girl friend of some of the others), a young padawan, and my son and i were there for about an hour or so. It was a good time, but i forgot my camera. Ill see if i cant contact any of the group there that took pictures to get one to post here.

Cool Troggy.

My experiences with the 501st have been negative thus far, but oh well, that's just this area I'd guess. Some of the S.F.F.F. folks are alright though.

Hey, I was there too. I am new to SuperT's small suburb and took the family to the celebration also but I missed seing him there. It is a big culture shock for me coming from LA to such a small town but I am loving it here (except for the state sanctioned suicide means called the 'roundabout'). As a matter of fact, SuperT and I live only about 1 mile apart. He has even invited my family over for a BBQ this week. It will be nice to get to meet some new people with similar interests and children about the same age as my son.

With as marvelous as your performance in BOP has been just offer to cross blades with anyone who even thought about giving you guff, hang those who can't appreciate greatness, what ho?Thanks for the praise... but you know how it is. Not everyone is into sabers, not everyone is into SW... and perhaps the 501st folks that *I* met had some issues with what we put together.

Maybe it's because we did it without them... (but not for lack of asking if they wanted to team up/work in SOME fashion)... maybe it's because most of them couldn't fathom staged combat or acrobatics or whatever.

Whatever the reason, it's often too bad that many SW fans... remain separated.

Novastar I kinda of know what you mean, there are definitely devisions amoungst the Star Wars Fans, eventhough I have friends in both the 501st and Rebel Legion, we were at a big SW MultiClub BBQ last Saturday and there was this one 501st member that had a problem with the LA Jedi and kept telling me that I better becareful and not taught the Light Saber by the wrong people, I mean isn't this supposed to be about having fun with your fellow Jedi. :?:

Hasid Lafre

Well from what I can tell many of the 501st dont care much for anything other than "evil side" costuming.

Jedi-Loreen
08-28-2007, 10:02 AM
Well, considering that the 501st has all the "bad guy" costumes, no, they wouldn't.

Most of the Public think that the 501st is all the Star Wars costumers, they don't know about the Rebel Legion, who are the "good guys", so the 501st gets all the recognition. Plus, they've been around longer than the Rebel Legion. And let's face it, Storm Troopers and Darth Vader get a lot of attention. Most people don't care so much about Jedi or X-Wing pilots when there's a Vader around.

A lot of people have dual membership in both clubs though.

Wasn't sure if there was a disturbance in the force or just bad nachos, but I had to pipe in.

Dual member 501st and Rebel Legion here. Love both groups! And while there is no way I can speak for every member in both groups I have spent a good amount of time lately discussing costumes with members around my Garrison and Base.

I think the thing to remember is that it is about QUALITY! 501st and RL want top level chyt. If you are going to run around as a purple Jedi then folks are going to talk smack about ya. There is supposed to be a reason for movie accurate costumes. The 501st love awesome Rebel costumes, The Rebel Legion love awesome 501st costumes. Ain't nobody wanyin' to see ya run around in your PJ's with a Hasbro and be tryin' to jump in the parade.

And the general public gets excited about Vader, Maul, Stormtroopers, the Fetts, Chewie, and Han. Everyone else is "Hey you, can you come fill in?" or "Hey you, can you move so we can get in with Vader?" J-Lo is right on with that.

James I don't think anyone said anything about the quality of the costumes.

I know that both groups require a good to high quality costume and to be honest I can understand why.

But Iam just talking about there attitude, 501st look at the other groups like why bother, Just cause they were the first doesnt mean they have to have there noses in the air.

That's what I like about the RL and the dark alliance there out there to prove that there just as good as the 501st without the need to put there nose in the air.

All costumers are the same weather your a Vader or a rebel general its all for the love of costuming for star wars and being a super nerd or mega geek what ever your choice of preference.

But no need to be snooty about it.

Jedi-Loreen
09-26-2007, 05:54 PM
There are other, more important reasons that the 501st and Rebel Legion members dress up. It's not all about who can out geek whom.
