Hi All,

New to the forums, but been looking at building a couple MHS Sabers for myself and my son. I got into building a nicer machined-type saber after we built 'custom' sabers at Disney World this summer.

Since I'm a visual guy, I wanted a way to piece the components together and take a gander at my planned saber. I created the components using Google SketchUp. Their not entirely accurate, measurements-wise, but you can certainly get a good idea of what your saber would look like (from the outside). And I didn't have a CAD program to import the CAD model that was posted.

Anyway, I thought I would share since SketchUp is free. You can download the components in a zip file here:
http://home.comcast.net/~chrisecks/MHS_Lightsaber.zip

Extract to a folder in your Google SketchUp/Components directory and you should be able to re-use them.

A lot of the components have "cross-hairs" at either end. I start with a pommel and draw a vertical line from the center of the pommel. Then you can use the move tool to attach the cross-hairs to the line and move them up and down the line (using the up-arrow to restrict the dimension in which you are moving).

Anyway, hope some people find it helpful.
Pics of a couple finished ones, here, if you'd like to see. They are a bit large.

EDIT: Forgot to mention in the original post that I only did the LED holders, and didn't add the EL adapters.

Nice!

Thanks a bunch for doing that, I may actually start using sketchup now :)

That's nice. You might be interested in the sketchup model I did for my Lightsaber.

I don't suppose someone with some skill could make an MPP style clamp for sketch up.

I also would like to note that the style 4 pommel is a bit off in those files. Slightly too small.
(edit) nevermind, it's fine, I'm just stupid hehe.(/edit)

Luke, I noticed your model in another entry on the forum. Nicely done.

Valeon, the claws and clamps would be pretty easy, but I didn't have measurements (and I didn't envision them on my sabers) so I haven't done them. If someone had measurements, I could whip them up and add them to the file.

Hey thanks tayjuswinn, I've been cranking away with Sketchup now for over a week. Thanks so much for making these parts. You've helped to start a new obsession

I posted an updated Zip file that includes the Thin neck section. Still need measurements for the claws or an recommendations for additional parts.

Simply unzip the MHSLightsaber.zip (http://home.comcast.net/%7Echrisecks/MHSLightsaber.zip) file to your SketchUp/Components directory and the parts will appear in the Components Palette under MHS Lightsaber.
