Here are a few pics of my first MHS... the shroud is finished but the MHS hilt is partially wet sanded. The last pic is my MHS next to a BYB saber I made a couple years ago. I hope I sized them correctly...

Note: The BYB saber under my MHS is facing the oposite way, the emitter is black.

Thanks guys :D

I will post pics when it is finished, right now I am just working on the hilt, I still need to get the electronics situated. I cant seem to find a decent priced MR to destroy so Im just gonna use a buckpuck and troll ebay till I find one.

Thanks again for the response.

I must know, what all is that shroud made out of?

Fantastic!

I love both of them, but the new one is really nice. Have to second the question though, what did you make the shroud from?

The shroud is just sink tube. The bottom is wet sanded and painted flat black, the top has been wet sanded with 4 different grits and then polished with a dremel. There is a piece of black leather in between the brass and black pieces and the grill looking thing is an outdoor screen repair patch. After it was all assembled I gave it a few coats of a matte clear coat to get a bit of a used look.

That emitter shroud is inspiring! Might I suggest some black coloration between the bands on the bottom, for a more uniform look?

Also, forgive my ignorance, but what does BYB stand for?

BYB stands for "Big Yellow Box". There's a, now old, website called "Lightsabers from the Big Yellow Box" with tutorials on how to make 8 different designs of hardware sabers. One is similar to Obi-wan's Ep 1-2 saber.

Many of us built our first lightsabers using info from that site, and can still get inspiration from the site on new designs to this day. :)

Theres one byb saber i would like to make but still not sure on it yet.

You got it, big yellow box was where I first went for instruction/ideas to make custom sabers. Very good to start due to low cost and simplicity. Then I found TCSS and was blown away

As for adding black to the rest of the saber, I thought of black in between the ribs in the ribbed section... I hadnt thought to make the bands on the main hilt piece black, that is a good idea though and I will prolly give it a go.

I just finished the polishing of the MHS parts... I cant decide if I want to fill the bands on the main hilt section with black. If I did I was thinking of making the pommel section black as well.

Not shown here is the switch plate I started this weekend. There is the main power slide switch and two submini momentary switches for when I put a soundboard in there.

Pic of the polished hilt...

Oh that is nice!

I kind of like it with the all silver grip, it calls more attention to the front of the hilt which is very striking!

I just got the blade and guts for it last night in the mail. I will post a last pic when everything is done.

I say leave the hilt as it is. looks sick.

I'm beginning to agree with the others about the hilt. With black, it would just make it more like all the other sabers with black between the bands (nothing wrong with those though), where as the simple polished bands keeps it feeling fresh.

What color blade is this saber to have?

strengthofrage
12-11-2007, 06:49 PM
There is a green K2 in there with a 1000 BPuck until I get the soundboard.

I took the advice and left the grooves bare. I am adding the switch plate and another small shroud'ish piece near the pommel and that will be it. I was aiming for a smooth elegant look and I think I got it

Thanks for the input guys, I will post some pics when its all done.

Very nice, though I imagined it having either a white or a red blade. To each his own. 8)

I might need to rethink my designs.

That is the one of the best hilts I ever seen.

Lord Doyle, my old friend!

Yes, this saber is a bit different than the 'Home Depot Specials' we used to make, those are still awesome, but these are... awesome..er

The weight is nice, a bit heavy but it is a nice feel I think. I will bring it over this weekend.

Welcome to TCSS

Sweet. I can't wait to see it, though it will probably bring tears to my eyes as I recall my long lost saber.

Ah, well. Nothing wine, weather (hiking) and women cannot solve!

I like it, really smooth and original too with the shroud/cover/emitter section. Not your common or garden saber, more of an executive model, I think

MHS hilt with a green K2, 1000ma BPuck and a Hasbro Obi-Wan ROTS sound card (for now)... Hope you like it.

That is one saber that needs at least an Ultra Sound, by far the best shroud i have ever seen!

Good job! :D

Thanks Malaki!

I would like to ad a decent sound board when they are available, Ultra isn't due for a while yet and Erv is preparing for another run of his CF board. I would be happy with either one that becomes available really to replace the Hasbro. I don't like the separate circuits set up this has, there is no ramp up/down or clash effects for the blade. Still, I am very happy with how it turned out. The MHS system is amazing.
