Just a sugestion for anyone looking for cheap bubble options for the Luke ANH saber...after several trials, looking for a good/cheap alternative to having to actual track down and purchase the true TI calculator display this is what I suggest. Take an old CD with a shiny (I used a free trial AOL disk), tape off the top coated side, precut with a razor blade the rectangular shape and size you've chosen to use for the top of the activator switch, then cut out with a pair of heavy duty scissors or tin snips. Next go to a hobby or fabric store and look in the scrapbook section. Most everyone carries small scrapbook bubbles. Use these on top of the CD cutout for a nice effect.

When I figure out how to post images I will post my version. ..Hey, just throwing out ideas....

Not a bad idea for people intested in doing it with all hardware. Practically no one goes for the actual calculator and just buys it from someone who made a mold.

I have also seen people use the wood filling plugs. I don't know where you find them but these are the kinds that come in shelf kits and the like. They drill the holes put them in then paint over it. It works but I think yours is much better.

Worked![:D] Do these scrapbook bubbles come any smaller? The ideal is six bubbles like the actual prop.

Not that I have found. If I do not find a smaller size by the time I work up my next saber, I may try to figure out a way to cut these to a slightly smaller Diameter. Also, My activator switch actuall measures about 1.80" in length where I believe the true prop measured closer to 2". I made My activator out of a piece of scrap Aluminum bar stock.

Maybe one of those hole punchers for a thick stack of paper might be strong enough and the hole close enough to the size ya need. I Love the effect. I think one cut into a square would be cool for an anakin ep III style switch box. Great Idea Tiberius172!!!!

Sounds like a good idea as long as the hole punch is good a sharp. I also wanted to throw in that the neat thing about using the disc in combination with the bubbles is you can use all different disc colors to give some really colorful effects. They might also be good to use as accent pieces in other areas. ??? Here are a few different color examples...

What do you use to cut the disks? I know I'd use an arcylic knife to score it then crack it but I'm curious as to what you use.

I taped off the coated side first to prevent the reflective coat from coming off. Next I scored the taped side with a razor blade. Then I used a pair of diagonal cutters to cut just on the outside edge of the scored line. Everything internal to the scored line/shape is what I actually used. It did very well and the taped coating hardly flaked at all.
