I'm finally going to build the saber I have been planning for about two years now. It has gone through several major design changes, and has finally arrived at this:

I intend to use a Crystal Focus v.3, a royal blue lux V, and incidentally, the new li-ion battery pack. The recharge port will be in the (anodized) machined covertech. Tim will be doing the custom parts. I will try to keep you posted on progress.

wow, that is just plain out gorgeous. I cant wait to see this one done. Are you going with the color scheme in the pictures? or are you planning on changing it up a bit.

Thanks guys. Yes, as of today I am still planning on this color scheme. The emitter might stay uncolored for a while after everything else is finished, though, because I want to do that part in powder coat, and with the cost of everything, I don't quite have the cash to do that as well as everything else.

That is nice looking, cant wait to see it finished.

Very cool saber, dude!
Is the yellow band brass or copper, or something else? And what color for a blade?

Are you going to be using any MHS parts? It looks like you plan on using the ribbed section and the sink tube adapter.

this is gonna be great. here is my recent design which is similar. maybe this can give you a sense of what it may look like "in the flesh"...

The yellow band is brass, and the blade is royal blue. It is built almost entirely out of MHS parts. Wu-li, I can't see your picture.

sorry about that luke, the pic is back up!

Hmm...I actually think that the yellow part would look wicked as...yellow. Not so much as brass. You just don't see so many sabers with actual color on them, especially that bright. You could paint it with enamel, or maybe it would look sweet anodized. I think I may be a brass racist! I will enroll in rehab immediately.

That's a great design.

I like the idea of the recharge port combined with the covertec.

I also agree with Sky-Million that it could carry the yellow - I think it could work in the way that yellow has that utilitarian, mechanical association with it as well and can look good with black and silver, too. Not that the brass wouldn't look good, just works very well with it yellow in your pics.

I'm curious about the long strip on the yellow/brass mid-band - is it a bubble strip or something similar? And are you thinking of taking advantage of the Crystal Focus features with LEDs under it?

Good luck with it, look forward to seeing it in the flesh.

Hmmm, painting black over aluminum then color over black would weather really really nicely. I may have to keep that in mind :)

DaJo did a nice saber with yellow and black (only other one I've seen in those colours).

Luke that is a sweet looking Hilt and the funny part is Tim used to make that Pommel to fit a 11/2" Dia Sink Pipe, I have one on my Last Parts Saber.

Luke-SkyMarcher

Thanks guys. The yellow idea is interesting, I'll have to think about that. Likely not on this saber, perhaps on a future one something along the lines of BYB style 1.
The strip is "calculator bubbles," as they're called. Yes, I am going to have LED's under them - blue. It may seem a bit like I'm copying erv's design there, but I had this in mind since the four flashing LED's were first suggested. :P
GFORCE, that pommel also used to be a MHS pommel - hence why I have it. I got it quite a while back and decided to use it on this saber. You may notice that I have no holes in the pommel: that is because the speaker holes are the ones up near the emitter, just above the grips.
On the control collar, the red LED is for low battery, and the green is for "charging."
It's likely that I'll eventually do more to it, especially on the lower grip. This is just what I'm aiming for for the time being.

Progress Report: I managed to order a CF.v3 before they were gone. I have not yet ordered my parts from Tim because I'm waiting for some things to come back in stock, and I need a little more cash too. I have also cut a 2" section of sink tube, from which I have removed the chrome and polished.

On a slightly different note, I have just got a lathe/mill combination, so hopefully I'll be making some more highly customized sabers soon. :D

Well, it is finally time for an update:

I was considering using quick disconnects because of all the wiring that would be needed for the CF, so I "borrowed" them from a fried MR

Here I'm working on my PVC resonation chamber (you'd be surprised how much louder a small ring of PVC held tight against it makes it!)

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2280.jpg

I also made a PVC sleeve for under the control collar area to help hold things in place

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2291.jpg

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2294.jpg

For the Aux button, I cannibalised a tactile switch from a cheap laser pointer

Luke-SkyMarcher

As for the blade, I'm using a thickwall 3/4", so first I sandblasted the inside,

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2295.jpg

then sanded the outside

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2296.jpg

Then put in the corbin film and polypropylene

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2297.jpg

I put it into a state of together-ness for the holidays, though it technically wasn't done: the blade and the sound worked, though, so it was still fun to show off

Luke-SkyMarcher
01-06-2008, 04:30 PM
Now that it's after the holidays, I'm back to working on it, wiring everything else up. The calculator bubbles also arrived from blast-tech

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2340.jpg

So there's the update for now! (sorry for the quintuple posting, but apparently, it only lets you post four pictures per post!)

Well, it's finally time for an update!
After going through a few practice shots, I finished the brass sleeve
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/DSC03733.jpg
Here it is on the saber. I also machined down the emitter section so I can slide the finished piece over it.
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/DSC03735.jpg
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/DSC03742.jpg

Here's the blade in the dark, not too accurate of how it actually looks, but pretty representative of evenness.

Now for the more recent pictures.:D These are from just a few days ago.

I machined the piece for the emitter. That took a long time! A little rough, I suppose, but I'm still learning on this one...
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u228/Luke_SkyMarcher/100_2350.jpg

On the saber: I also powder coated the grips a flat black.

Woot! Man thats a bad saber. You know what I mean.;) Man you have just inspired and sparked my brain with new ideas, very smart making the pvc mount, thats the way to go, do stuff the right way with the right tools and take your time and it should always come out right. I love the bubble and charging leds. I do have a couple questions though. Is the speaker in the threads of the bottom of the ribbed section? And did you give the the mhs hilt section just before the pommel a quick pass with the lathe to give it that brushed look?

37H4N
03-06-2008, 05:35 PM
Ooo! spiffy! Lookin good Luke.
I realy like the way the brushed part looks with the brass.

Very nice! You should do a video.. I wanna see all those greebly LED's lit up! Great work on the hilt, btw. I love the emitter.

Luke-SkyMarcher
03-12-2008, 03:06 PM
Thanks for the comments and encouragements guys.
Dacota - the speaker is about halfway up the ribbed section. I used 1500 grit abrasive paper while spinning the part on the lathe. Anyone can get basically the same effect by doing what I did with the piece of sink tube to get the brass off.
