Gentlemen and ladies:

It has been some time since I posted on these hallowed boards. Do-Clo just finished a final rebuild on my custom saber. I have asked him to post pictures on the boards.

Unfortunately during the final assembly, the MR speaker malfuntioned [read crapped out] Do-Clo replaced it with the best one he had on hand. As he can tell you the MR sound board and speaker....that I got from Tim sounded better than just about anything he or I had ever heard.

I urgently need an MR speaker from a MR-Luke saber. If anyone has one they can sell me, I will pay any reasonable price.

Please email me at don.trim@westin.com with an offer.

Thank you one and all.

Some say that's not true. All I know is the the original one worked better than anything I have ever heard. Of course if no-one has one to sell me, I may have no choice.

I think tims are bit better but you also don't have to tear apart a good mr batt pack to get it.

i put one of tims in my anakin saber and didnt find it any louder then my obi wan with stock speaker, actualy i had to give it more resonance to make it as loud

A great speaker with lousy resonance...
...will not sound as good as a mediocre speaker with great resonance...

at the same time u would think havin the same resonance as the mr it should b as loud but it wasnt i had to open the battery pack to give it more air volume behind it. it also changed the tone having so much resonance behind it compared to the mr. made it deeper sounding, however i noticed swing sounds were louder on it but clashes were quieter....odd

soon i will have many speakers to choose from lol, i got 2 commin from tim that i ordered b4 i found these other ones. and 10 speakers comming from a supplier ( 2 sets of 5 of different moddels of 28mm)

Strange, I had the exact opposite result when changing from an MR speaker for an MR-driven board... to one of the speakers I had.

Then again, it was 36mm I think... :)

Hello all...I have just finished my first LED saber. I converted my MR FX Anakin to a Seoul P4 Blue. However, it was not a standard conversion. My MR FX speaker was blown so I put in a TCSS speaker and modified the battery pack to provide more space behind the speaker (about 1/2 inch) and a resonance chamber in front of the speaker (about 1 in). The problem is the same as previous posters in this thread, the TCSS speaker is not as loud as the MR speaker. I though that giving it a bigger chamber would solve the issue but it has not. Does anyone know what the real issue is? I am leaning towards a hypothesis that the TCSS speaker requires more power to drive it than the MR did and therefore the new speaker is under-driven and needs more power. I have no idea how to fix this though. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to all the pics:

That's not true. I'm running a TCSS speaker in my Nerf blaster conversion that's running off a board that only uses 3V. It's plenty loud with the resonating chamber I made for it.

My resonating chamber is 2" long and the speaker is mounted so that it has 1/2" of space behind it. Having some space behind the speaker is as important as space in front of it. I don't see any space behind your speaker, the way it's mounted.

It is possible the 1 watt speaker needs too much power. Speakers in this size range from .1 watt to 3 watts. Can you see any marks on the back of the original speaker?

No I don't see any markings on the original MR FX... It is a smaller speaker, depth wise, the diameter is the same. I have a little experience with car audio and there are plenty of different speakers of the same size that have different power requirements. I can try to play arround with the space behind the speaker but right now it is sitting in a 1/2 inch rear inclosure which is about the same as the MR FX speaker proportionately speaking. I have very limited room so there is only about an inch resonance chamber in front of the speaker which is an inch more than the MR FX speaker had.
