Does anyone know how to make a hilt like count Dooku's? I guess you would have to get a curved sink tube, but is there any other way, or where could you get a curved sink tube, thats nice and shiny like every good hilt should be?

I have yet to see an exact replica of a Dooku, but a curved one is possible. You have to have a pipe bender which for the sizes we use aren't cheap. This is difficult too with the type of pipe we use the tendency would be to make it flat on the inner curve. I'd see if a car/motorcycle shop that bends it's own exhausts might do it for you. The back half could be done with a angled pipe coupler.

i have yet to see a "dooku replica" that looks anything like dooku's hilt. most people use curves that are arc shaped, but dooku's is more angled than curved.

i am a nerd, if you don't like it, i will cut you with my lightsaber

I believe he's talking about just a curved or angled hilt, not necessarily a replica of Dooku's.
So has anyone seen a curved hilt at all?

I've seen decent attempts done with vacuum attatchments that have the curve to them. Scrap yards or if your local dump allows.

Is a curved hilt any good for dueling anyway? Isn't a curved hilt off-balance or something?

i have a blue print of it if you email me you email address, i don't know if i am allowed to post mine[8D]

the blueprints have all of the mesurements for every aspect of his saber

Blueprints are good for the measurements but aren't in a form a machinist can use. It's mostly a reference.

I believe he's refering to the MR "blueprints" that were sold. It's illegal to post them...

i don't know where they came from they were sent to me by a friend, i know that they are not MR blueprints[:D], and sorry i don't know how to post pics yet, and they are very large pics[8D]

Check that out for posting pics. I swear it should be sticky it comes up so often...

I was assuming it was the MR blueprints. It'd have to be CAD drawings because the Dooku would have to be CNC milled. There are simply too many things that a machinist can't do by hand effectivly on it.

I believe you have to build it first and then bend it judging by those little blue crosshairs in the pic.

Cactus,
You are correct. You have to bend it after cutting in the recesses, Thats what allows it to bend the way it does. A bent pipe will almost never look as good as doing it this way. It just would never FEEL like the movie hilt if it were just bent pipe.

Well, it's also not enough for a machinist to go on unless they have to make up some stuff along the way. A second view is needed and the other parts need to be filled in. The emitter might be decent by simply bending the stock but the pommel is angled and that's best done with a seperate piece.

Actually, if you look at the schematic close enough, you will see two blue cross-hairs. One is noted as representing "approximate bend locations".

Looks like plans to machine it straight, and bend it after. Or it was drawn straight, to keep details in perspective.

Yes, as an architecture major I know a thing or two about using CAD and blueprints. I saw the cross hairs and someone else pointed that out too. I'm simply saying that picture is not enough for even a machinist to go on much less a CNC machine. It'd also make a less than accurate hilt. The pommel of the dooku is angled not curved. Perspective isn't needed on the drawings either. You could draw it curved a it'd be fine.

Find your nearest muffler shop and hand him your tube and see if he can bend it where you like. just a thought. they have mandrel bending machines that should handle the job.
