View Full Version : How do I tell the Lux LED's apart?

I am a little confused here, so if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

I have a blue Lux III and blue Lux V. I thought I had them identified, but the Lux III seems way brighter on 5 volts than a Lux V. Is that normal, or did I mix them up?

Anyway I can tell by the data on the back of the LED which is which?

Thanks, and if it is covered somewhere else, I do apologize. I did a quick search, and couldn't find anything relevant.

A V would barely light on 5V... a III is really going to want to fry on 5V if it's not regulated.

So a V is the weak one. Drive it properly and it will be MUCH brighter.

You can tell exactly what you have anytime if you look at the binning. There are PDF's on the LumiLEDs site that detail that. It will tell you every thing... like first two is the class I believe, then color bin, etc...

Yeah, as I was laying in bed last night thinking about this it made sense. One was getting overdone while the other was being under driven.

But I will look at that site, would be handy to have the info around.

Take a small sharpy and mark on the underside V or 3.

Or you could just keep them leds in a seperate container.

Look at the size of the die under the dome. A Lux V is about 4 times larger under the dome than a Lux III. That's the easiest way to tell the families apart.
