Well I finaly got the parts yesterday! I'm waiting till later today to do the electronics when Dacota is here 'cause I'm new to this. I'll post pics of it with lit blades tonight, but for now heres what it looks like.

Looking good. one thing I would suggest is to move the switches twards the center that way you got alot more hand space.

I might, but so far I seem to have enough room.

Bad news BTW. Don't bash me, 'cause I'm a noob when it comes to this. I got the wrong resistor so I'll have to check with radio shack to see if they have one or maybe a buckpuck. If they don't have one then does anybody know of another place that might so I don't have wait three more days and pay shipping again?

Out of all this though there was some good. It was a learning experience, the wait will make me appreciate it even more when I get it working, and I didn't fry the LED! (thank god!) thanks to Dacota who used a voltage tester before we hooked everything up.

Damn that sucks.

I dont know how to find the right resistor at radio hack.

They label things weard

But good luck

How did you order the wrong resistors? Didn't you order the basic electronics kits? That's what you should have done, if you're a newbie. Takes the guess work out of it, which is what it's supposed to do.

And, don't you need 2?

Yeah, Radio Shack is a bad place to look for specific resistor values like we use here for the various LEDs.

"You have questions, we have answers." (Of course we'll give you the answers so full of technobabble and take forever looking something up in the system that we'll need to find the manager, then the manager has to call his supervisor, then the supervisor needs to call regional, so you're better off going somewhere else...)

Sorry... *lol* I'm in quite the sarcastic joke mood today...

Sorry, I didn't say what LEDs I got or anything. I got two white K2s. And I got two resistors I just didn't say so.

Since there were a few things me and Dacota still need, I'm ordering two 1000mA buck pucks.

wow i cant believe i missed this thread. Nice job on the saber. I like it coupled up like that maybe you can paint the grooves red or something.

Thanx!

That would be cool. Dacota sudgested somewhat the same thing but its mainly a hard dueling saber so the paint might rub off or get dull. I may paint it in the future tho. Unless there is a realy strong type of paint or epoxy that won't rub off then I might consider it sooner.

I've heard that household appliance paint works pretty good. Most hardware stores carry this, but the drying/curing process takes a day or two to fully dry.

Try the thread on using enamel on a hilt, there's some usefull info in there

Ok, I'll have to check that out.

Well, I've got some good news and some bad news. Good news is: I got my parts and the saber is beautiful! My LEE filters look awesome to!
And now the bad news: At first it was cool, I was outside side tonight with my saber, when I turned it off, it slowly dimmed and then turned out. So I thought cool! a dimming effect. but then I left my saber on a bit longer than before and it took longer to turn off. Then finaly the third time, it won't turn off at all. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

This seems to be a common issue when connecting a switch to the buckpuck via the extra leads. Tap your switch into a battery lead instead and you shouldnt have an issue. I am going to call tomorrow and find out why they are doing that.

as i plan on doing a mhs with a buckpuck i asked the resident electrics expert Do-Clo on how to wire it, and he said the same thing, put the switch in on the hot lead to the battery pack. dont mess with the extra leads, clip them off or tape up. the only leads you need are the 2 for batt pack, and the 2 for led.

Okj so wire it between the batt packs red wire and the bucks red wire.Interesting.Tim, any news on why the bucks are doing this?

The way my dad explained it when I asked him for a non EE answer was that the control wires are meant for something that will offer more specific control, such as a dimmer, and not simply an on off switch.

So after some trials and tribulation me and Dacota finaly finished my saber. Its been done for about a week now I just got around to taking pics.
I'll post a few here but the rest are in the LED colors thread.

last night I put in my primary red filters and noticed they didn't produce a very pure red, which me and Dacota have found to be a hard color to produce. But then I got the idea to mix the primary red with magenta and what do ya know, I got this!

I also got an interesting pic,

You can get some really cool pictures if you go outside at dusk or on a cloudy day and play with your shutter speed. Set your camera on a tripod and try 1/4 or 1/2 second exposures while swinging your saber. I did this one evening with my nephew and got some really neat pictures.
