Any quick way to do it?

Put some current through it and look with a multimeter? Any other suggestions?

hook it up to a board or old headphones

Multimeter set for ohms. You should see around 8ohms for any decent "normal" speaker for our purposes.

You do not need to run current through it separately--the multimeter will attend to that.

If you get some weird reading like... WAY over or under 8ohms, the speaker is probably wrecked.

Thanks Nova, that is the quick test I was looking for. As I don't have a spare speaker sitting around, I didn't want to do a bunch of cutting and soldering if I didn't have to.

Anyone know if the speaker Tim sells meets Nova's recommended ohms? I don't have a multimeter

I can test it for you at the next rehearsal Brian.

And yes, actually... Novastar helped Tim, Ultra and Erv actually GET setup with those speakers, heheh. :) Besides, most of these kinds of speakers should be tested at 8 ohms. MRs... hasbros... blah blah...

Cool, thanks. And gundamaniac wonders whether there is a reason novastar is referring to himself in third person
