This is my first post, I've lurked here a bit gathering information for my plans for my own saber, and I have a question on color.

I used the search to try and find an answer, but couldn't find any. Could anyone show me a picture of a blade using a Royal Blue Luxeon? I am just confused as to if this is a "blue" color, or a more "purple" color. I found this picture at Advanced-Light - http://www.advanced-light.com/images/001saberologycolors.jpg - which led me to believe that the luxeon may be the same, but then I believe someone said Royal Blue is the best match to the blue in the movies...so I'm not sure.

Thanks to all who help.

Blue is more like the prequels (look at the complete blade pic) and the cyan is like the original trilogy. Check the colors on ultrasabers.com. Kenobi blue is a royal blue LED. The saberology pic is kind of decieving. I don't why it's so purple for them.

It's hard to get a comparison but hopefully some others will chime in. I know Gelu had a royal blue one but I can't seem to find the pic...

Thank you xwing band, if you happen across the pic of Gelu's royal blue that would be great. So I can use Ultra's pics on his site as a good reference for the color of the Luxeons? I am guessing his "KOTOR Orange" is an Amber LED?

So, what is the best way to get a nice purple hue? (still deciding on my blade's color) Blue with red color disc/Red with blue color disc/White with purple color disc? How well do color discs work with colored LEDs?

Thanks

i tried the disks with the red/orange led in my vader heiland led, just for kicks. and they dont make any difference at all. the red/orange is just way too intense. the only real way i know of is to use a white led and use the purple disk.

AlienDragon,

Here is the Royal Blue saber I had. Mind you, this is a Luxeon I, not a III: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6588465811&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1

The royal blue gives you a nice deep blue, like the 2005 MR Anakin. The Luxeon called blue is in fact an aqua color like this:

Colored disks with colored LEDs do not work well at all. White light contains all the colors in it. When you filter it, you do just that - you block all other colors other than the one you want to see. Now, using a red filter on a blue LED will eventually give you a purple hue, but it will be so dim, it will be useless. Why? Well, there is very, very, very little red light emmited by a blue LED. The same is valid for the other colors. However, if you use a blue or a yellow filter with a green LED, you might get some decent results, as green has lots of blue and yellow in it.
If anyone finds anything wrong with my explanation, then please, by all means, correct me!

Thank you for your reply Gelu.

How you explained the color discs makes alot of sense. I wasn't thinking of the discs blocking the other colors, just mixing in(like using a red disc with a green LED for yellow, etc.)

Well, I was hoping the royal blue was like the one from saberology, I guess now I just have to decide between green and amber. Although, amber LEDs seem out of stock everywhere...

But thanks again for everyone's help.
