Hey guys, Im upgrading the guts of my saber. Currently Im using a 3w green LED with MR Anakin soundboard powered by a 4AAA battery pack. I just got myself an ultraboard and I decided since im putting in new sounds I might as well try to get the most kickbutt Green LED I could find. Since the MR board's issues arent a problem anymore I want the brightest green possible.

So, therein lies the question. What is the best green LED? Is it the K2 or the Lux V? If its the K2 Im pretty sure I can use my 4AAA battery pack to power it, but if its the Lux V do I need a different battery pack? (keep in mind I dont want to use rechargeable batteries for now.) Can you guys help me out?

I think that most will agree that the brightest green is the Lux V, but I use a green K2 in my custom saber, and it's a nice shade of green:

It's being run off an MR Vader board there in that pic, but will soon be driven off an Ultrasound, once Ultra ships them out.

If you hold off for a bit the Luxeon Rebel can be an option. I have the PCBs and the top binned Rebels waiting. I just need the paste to reflow solder them.

It pumps out 145 lumens at 700mA. Probably 180 @ 1A! They're probably not ready if you want to have the least hassle. So a V and new battery pack might be the easiest.

I hear rumors of a new K2 with the Rebel die too.

So options are:
-K2 140 lumens with no modding.
-V 160 lumens but you;d need a new higher voltage battery pack
- Other... waiting to see what LumiLEDs pulls out of it's hat. :?

what battery pack would I need for the Lux V that could fit in an mhs (and not need a recharge port)?

Well, by not needing a recharge port you mean non-rechargeable? You don't need a port if you don't mind fishing out the pack to charge it.

For non-rechargeable there are two options:
http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/pc-722-6-6aa-battery-holder.aspx
http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/pc-580-6-8aaa-12v-battery-holder.aspx

The 12V one is pushing the limit of the board. The 9V would be better.

Hey xwing, where did you get those top bin green rebels and pcbs from?
I tried the luxeon site and the link only had blue and red rebel emitters left.
Any chance getting a reflow soldered green rebel from you when you're done?

I ordered my emitters straight from the luxeon site.

The PCBs came from LED-tech.de I might be able to spare you one but I'm only left with 15mm PCBs. I could order more, but it'd take a bit more.

Really.... where did you hear that little gem? Sounds promising.

Candle Power Forum. People with connections are getting prototypes that are have the Rebel dies. I remember reading that a person got prototype whites binned at 200 lumens @ 1A all in a K2 package.
