i'm running into some trouble trying to find some gold colored piping that will slide over my mhs parts. i dont really know why but the guy at home depot acted like i was retarded when i asked if they carry any brass pipes. i only need like 4 inches or so and i can't seem to find it anywhere. does anyone know where i can get my hands on some?

it's like a 4 leaf clover. lol I ended up sanding the chrome of a sink tube to get the brass. worked pretty good though.

sheesh... sounds like a pain. after looking online for like 3 hours i found this place:

www.brassjack.com

they sell quite a bit of brass stuff... seems a little overpriced but i'd rather go that route than sand down the chrome and then worry about polishing and all that.

I'd check your local hardware stores or a Menard's if you have one near you. I found all kinds of brass plumbing pipe at mine.

You'd think so, but not really. The chrome layer is thinner than a hair, so it comes off pretty easy, if you have a dremel. You have to protect the brass though, or else it will tarnish soon.

i used a 5 inch sanding disk and attached to my drill. worked pretty good.

my local home hardware used to carry those pipes without the chrome. Right now they have chromed ones, but you might want to give a look every now and then. (I think can still have a 6-inch section in brass...)

I second JediRanger's thanks!
Nice stuff there.........just saw how to possibly make a few of my designs become reality.

That brass piping on that site looks great. If I wanted to purchase some to slide over and drill to the MHS parts, what diameter would be ideal?

Od of my mhs part I have at hand is 1.45" or 37mm so you want an id thats slightly bigger than that. od is up to you.

They got brass splices which I think would be cool to use for overlays half plates and such.

The brass on that site is 1.4" ID... too small. It's not suitable for MHS stuff.

Yeah you would have to sand the mhs parts quite a bit.

Or sand the inside of the brass pipe some.

I'm not sure, but I think the Jonitus saber (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2719) I have uses tubing about this size. I noticed that the brass shroud will not fit over standard MHS parts I have (not even the 1.5" adapter). I think the saber body, ribbed section and emitter on this saber might have been reduced in size a bit.
I don't know if this is the same type of tubing or not, but I just thought it was interesting.

How much is a pipe cutter, that will work with pipes those size? I checked online and am just finding $100 and up ones, is that all that exists?

Oh, and assuming I can't spend alot can I just cut this stuff with a hacksaw and then sand it down or wire brush the burrs off?

my pipe cutter was only 25 bucks at home depot.

I use 20 gauge or even 17 gauge tubing in my sabers. I either turn parts down or pay Tim to turn them down for me when I order them.

22 gauge stuff is too flimsy for my taste, so it's worth a bit of extra work for me to modify parts or have them modified to accept beefier tubing.

I'm sure you'll here this a million times more, but that saber is 31 flavors of awesome.

The goal is 1.45" ID. I guess If I ever really want to use brass I'll get the MHS turned down to fit.

I found a 4" brass tube at Lowe's (about $2.50) that was very close on the inside diameter, all it took was a little sanding with a foam backed 400-grit sanding pad. Now it slips over my MHS as smooth as glass. A side benefit is that it is so smooth on the inside that I don't have to worry about scratching the MHS pieces.
