ive looked around the forum and cant find what the differance between a lux 3 and a lux 5. what is the difference is it quality or brightness?

They are brighter at the expense of you need double the voltage and it generates a lot more heat.

if you dont ave twice the amount of batteries will it still run? will the bateries last a smaller period of time or will the LED be dimmer?

It will not run unless given 5.5V give or take a bit, but it needs at least 6.8V to light fully.

If you aren't going to give it the full voltage it needs you might as well stay with a III.
