Hi all,
Can someone tell me what the max volts a Driver board and MR board can handle as i'm currently looking at using two 3.7v(7.4) li-ion batteries... will this be too much power?

i think the most the board can take is 4.5v

i beleive he's right. 4.5volts is max a mr can handle,

That is not correct.

An MR board can handle at least 5v, and possibly 6v, but I would only recommend going as high as 5v.

7.4 Li-Ion (effective nearly 8v) is definitely going to cause a long-term problem if not an instantaneous magic smoke deal.

If you use an excessive voltage for whatever reason (believe me I understand)... try the following:

1. Regulate the voltage with a simple regulator available at radio shack (regulate to 5v or 6v)... you may need to heatsink it.

2. Do not use the MR to power the light, go direct drive with a resistor, and use the FX for sound (and possibly extra 'pretty' lights).

3. Use some kind of relay to divert 'X' amount of power to the MR, and the full amount needed to the LED, etc.

I can't think of any other way that is simplistic. Another option would be simply to buy the Ultra board, which is going to be a FARRRRRR cry better.

well 4.5 is not that far off of 5v. right now I got 4.8v goin to it, we'll see how long she lasts. :twisted: :wink:

That should be fine. I think it could handle 6v, but why push it unless it's totally necessary.

7v would be ugly, and as I said 8v would be... RIGHT OUT! (/end Monty Python reference). :)

I use a 4AA battery holder with my Luke ep3 MRFX soundboard.
Tried with 4 alcaline (typically: 4*1.5V = 6V) and with 4 NiMH (typically: 4*1.2V = 4.8V) and had no problems so far.

Still, being that its intended to be used with 3AA (typically: 3*1.5=4.5V) I would try to stay in that range.

IF your gonna use the mr for sound only then you should be safe going to 6V but like nova said I wouldnt go past 5V.

The driver can take something like 12V IIRC but thats by itself.

oh and another thing if your gonna use the MR board for sound and somehting to drive the led be it a driver puck or the old resistor then your gonna needs a DPDT switch.

Just get yourself the 4.8V AA rechargable setup and you will be fine with what ever option you decide to go with. Save for a 5W setup. your gonna need a voltage regulator for that one.

ITs basicly the same thing so everything still applys.
