So Ive had an mhs saber for a while now.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/TCSSstylebladewithlightsanding.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/FirstLightsaber2.jpg

Pritty basic. well almost all the basic parts.

But i went with this design cause in the tcss store page theres a pic of different changing sabers well theres one that has an overlay on it I was gonna do that but changed my mind, when I seen this I knew I had to get a lighttech crown emitter.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/SaberPlan.jpg

But sence lightech isent alive on the otherside of the site I have to hold off for a while till I can have one custome made for me.

So I had my bro do this for me at his work.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/FirstLightsaber.jpg

It was the style 5 pommel I had my bro shave it down on the lath and had a 05 vader speaker grill altered and shoved in there.

It still retains some of the rounded ness but Iam gonna sand on it more and make it more pronounced.

Now all its got is a 3W cyan bin 2, with a 33" tcss blade ran on an 05 vader sound board.

I have ordered some parts and sadly I wasent abel to get the LT emitter but thats all I am missing.

My 7" plain style 1 hilt section is being lathed on for some light grooving. hopefully its finished today so I can put this togeather cause hopefully the parts will come in today. Just need to find out when my extra shock sensor is susposed to get here.

Iam gonna be running the 3w cyan for now till tim can get the k2 cyans in, Iam gonna go from 80 lumens to 130 lumens. ;D

Iam gonna use the mr board for sound only and its gonna have an accent led driven off of with the proper resistor so I can plug it with almost 5 watts.

Iam gonna be using corbins latching driver thanks to Xwing for that and the altering he did to it already. He soldered leads to it and shafed it down to fit the mhs. Again Thanks Xwing.

I Got me a rotory DPDT switch to make this possable.

Now I am setting this up for rechargable so in a recharge port goes.

Iam flipping my 7" hilt section around so the origional button hole is now for the recharge port and allows me to have a resinance chamber of sort for my speaker.

I went with the 4.8V AA rechargable battery pack, 2.1MM plug and jack. the pluc has the correct connector on it so its a plug and play for my nimh battery recharger.

Now sence Iam doing this setup I need another clash sensor, and thanks to corbin that will be possable to run this properly.

So iam gonna have to drill a couple holes in my ribbed section for the switch and hopefully it will fit or iam gonna have to reses the hole which I dont really want to do at this time. cause with just a hand drill thats gonna be tough.

So Thats about it for the build up of it with the purchased parts. I have purchased a sinktube a longtime ago that I can now make use of to make a style-ish activation plate of sorts.

Iamnot sure what iam gonna do for say the looks like painting or whatever I dont know yet.

But I am gonna do some damage to it to make it look like it fell of a cliff of sorts and some weathering that I think will work. Not the kind of it being aged but in use but like its seen alot of battles and Iam gonna use alot of 0000 gritt steel wool on it in places. It will change the aluminum look to that of gun metal gray.

Iam gonna use it in places then even it out to look like it aged in thoes places that dont get used much.

Then Iam gonna smoth out places where hand location would of been for its many battles.

I will then be rewrighting my story I made. Its not like a short story its more of a long story from hell, almost book.

It will tail how my charater came about and how he found his first lightsaber that turned out to his own from a previous life time.

Enjoy and expect pics to b up in a couple days.

Ok so my picture taking skills arnt the greatest of this camera isent the greatest.

So here it goes.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberHiltalteredbyMike1.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberHiltalteredbyMike.jpg

It looked better on the camera so just bear with me here. at least you can see that theres grooving into it. the 2 on the beginning and ends are wider but on one side its like it wasent cut deep enought but I dont know how that turned up.

But at closer feel they all are like that. kinda like it had a wobbel into it but thats ok. Not to big a fan on perfection when it comes to something of this...size.

Becides I may put a grip plate there I dont know.

Iam not gonna clean it up at all after I start constructing this thing so if theres a mistake like the drill bit walks then thats gonna stay there.

But on to do some test fitting of board placements.

Wow, that looks just like Ryma Mara's saber.... :P

Well so far all ive done is catalog everything and assembled part of my blade. I went with the thinwalled 1" blade.

ITs about 37" long or so with the new shouldered tips for thick walled blades.

Now whats really coll is that I got the 3/4" aluminum disk on the tip and theres space between the tips shoulder and the blade so the light passes around it and lights the pit up pritty darn good.

Should of took pics but forgot.

But I have to figure out how to get corbins film in there so tomorrow iam gonna get a 1/4" or smaller dowel rod and put it in there.

I got some drilling to do for my switch hole and my accent led which is suprizingly smaller than I thought it would be so who knows I may do somehting about it later on like another one.

My brother is gonna make a disk for my recharge port to set into the place of my speaker grill.

My activation plate is gonna have speaker holes under it and maybe a slot or 3 in the plate so sound can come out there but for the most part iam tired of sound comming out the bottem of my hilt only.

So Maybe in a week I will have some progress going cause its gonna be a pain to put togeather cause corbins board is tight in there.

Hasid Lafre
06-27-2007, 02:25 PM
Ok heres my blade, I heard that corbins film inside ultras gives the coring effect and the even ness of ultras Now iam wondering if I should take someof ultras out?

My brother thinks it would be better on the outside of ultras film.

Up close flash on then off.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/Newthinwalledblade1flashon.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/Newthinwalledblade2flashoff.jpg

Blade with flash on then off.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/Newthinwalledblade3flashon.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/Newthinwalledblade4flashoff.jpg

The room is semi dark but not dark I mean theres day light comming it. theres alot of overcast outside, but its comfertable in the house to not have a light on.

So, The saber is my brothers 3W Royal blue on mr sound board.

I think it looks good. Iam just wondering what I should to put corbins film on the outside of ultras with some of ultras cut down or the way it is but with ultras cut down still?

I figured that this was the way to go sence I am using corbins driver so I will get the correct extend retract look that corbins driver does with his film.

xwingband
06-27-2007, 02:36 PM
I would put corbin's on the outside and less of Ultra's. Another option would be a quad wrap to help with evenness... I want to try that next blade I make.

Hasid Lafre
06-27-2007, 03:30 PM
Well I cut off about 4 feet of ultras and used that. then the last couple wraps I stuck corbins double wrap in to help roll it up cause it is a pain in the but to roll up.

I got almost all the dog hair off theres about 4 or 5 then I got to get some duster to clean the dust off cause Iam sure some got on it.

I dont have my hilt or one togeather for that matter but I stick a mini bulb flashlight at the end and it looked pritty good I can see corbins better and ultras fil still kinda does its thing. couldent tell much cause the flashlight sucks.

But I think that will work 4 foot of ultras to a double of corbins so I would say with a quad wrap maybe 2.5-3 foot of ultras or so.

But I need to get the dust off of it but I dont know of any clean air enviroment I can do this in.

Hell I was luckey to get what hair off I could and my house theres no animals just me and my dusty basement.

But will get pics of it up tomorrow if I remember.

Hasid Lafre
06-28-2007, 08:31 PM
So yeah I went to start working on the switch and led holes today and that dident work out so great.

So what Iam gonna do is just take a section of my ribbed section out. Basicly Iam gonna put a small square out and mount the leds to the plate instead. then I just have to worry about drilling the switch hole out more and countersinking that but I need a drill press and thats not an easy thing to find.

Hasid Lafre
06-29-2007, 10:35 PM
Well with the help of my brother theres a good sized hole now fo rmy accent led and a quick connector.

So Iam gonna mount the led to the plate and it will be easyer to then get the switch in place. the switch hole is about half way done.

Then all I got to do is counter sink the hole a bit and figure out a way to keep the switch from turning on itself as it was ment for a panel mount so I had to shave some of the switches sides off and Iam gonna take some more plastic off to get just a bit more threads to poke thru.

Did a bit of messing around and the tip to my blade popped off so I need to get a tip for the thin walled blades.

So now I know that idea dident work so Iam gonna wait till the tip on my thick walled blade pops and replace it with that one.

So more derailment is afoot, I had my brother hot glue the contacts on the driver so none of the wires come off and thanks X for putting the wires on the driver for me as Iam sure me or my brother would of messed something up.

So tomorrow Iam gonna try to get some pics of the blade and the hilt progress while Bro is helping a friend of mine with his hilt.

Then I got to sand the chrome off the sinktube(god I dont want to do that), So yeah lots of fun fun fun stuff.

Hasid Lafre
07-01-2007, 03:36 PM
Ok So here is my blade with about 4 foot of ultras films and a corbin double wrap in a thinwalled blade.

The tim is tapted on there cause I am gonna need to get a thin walled blade tip.

Mine came off after just a light tap.

So hers the blade with the flash on then off.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/Newthinwalledblade5Flashon.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/Newthinwalledblade6Flashoff.jpg

The cutting work on the hilt for the led and switch.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/SidsSaberstuff002.jpg

Still need to countersink the hole for the switch but yeah thats a good sized hole for the led but I wanted to have enought room for the quick disconnects cause eventually 2 leds are gonna go there so in the mean time Iam gonna use a yellow 5MM led.

So sometime I need to start sanding the chrome off the sink tube. ugg

The room was barly lit Much like the same conditions in the previous pics.

The duel wrap blade looks good. I think I want to try that on a future blade.

Your Dremel skills on the switch hole leave a little to be desired, though.

I usually save my smaller, worn cut off disks for making small square holes like that. Though I haven't tried making a square hole in something like an MHS hilt, just sink tubes and PVC, so I'm sure it's more difficult to do.

Hasid Lafre
07-02-2007, 05:06 AM
Yeah it was very tedious. Iam glad I dident do it. :) If I did it would look 10 times worse.

Hasid Lafre
07-02-2007, 03:44 PM
Ok so I did some work on the switch mount some more and its fine but I ned to figure out a way to keep the switch from turning on itself.

So far Ive shaved down the sides of the switch a bit and have made a nice flat spot in the mhs section but at some point of turning it on and off its gonna turn on itself so anyone got any ideas to stop this or maybe another recomentadion for a dpdt latching switch?

I would prefer soemthing thats not so easy to turn off like just turning it off and on needs some effert.

a future tip for making square holes:
drill a hole with a bit that is one size smaller than the across section of the object going in (if that makes sense). then, use microfiles to make the hole square. you might want to tape the square off so you know where to file.

i did it on my MHS and it looks fabulous, just time consuming

Hasid Lafre
07-03-2007, 10:14 PM
Yeah but its gonna get all covered up by a plate anyway.

You should see all the filing I did to the switch hole only to ditch this idea and go with the slider here.

Hopefully the slider here is good sizedlike it will fit in the hole(mine is the same size as the push button switches here), so hopefully I just have to drill/tap 2 holes for 2 8/32" cap screws to hold it in place.

Then off to make more holes for the sound to come out.. Iam mounting my speaker to my heatsink so I can get sound to come out around the saber instead of below it. So it gives a more impretionable sound like the sameber is actually making the sound not the pommel.

Hasid Lafre
07-09-2007, 04:01 AM
Well I talked to tim and hes gonna make me a version of the lt crown emitter for me. so now all I have to do is remove another rib in the square hole so I can fit my other 5mm led then Iam gonna search for a slider that has holes to fit the 8-32 cap screws to hold it in place.

Then after thats all said and done I can wire this up, do some weathering work, make my sinktube plate make some soundholes, get a tip and a speaker and its fineto.

Hasid Lafre
07-14-2007, 01:16 PM
ok so I just found out that the holes in the switch are threaded, so I can mount my switch to my cover plate.

Now to sand the edjes of my sinktube

more on that later

Hasid Lafre
07-14-2007, 07:04 PM
OK Major update on the saber.

So far I have stripted the chrome off my sinktube and have worked on the plate and bands.

My brother has found a way to strip the chrome off the sinktube with ease.

At out minards in the sandpaper area there are these sanding wheels that can attack to a drill and its like the automotive sanders where you stick the round sand paper on it.

Strips the chrome off with ease.

So heres the work on the switch area to alter it for a slider.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberProgress001.jpg

Now here are the bands and plate I worked on.

Still got to smooth and level the edges some more but there almost done.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberProgress0011.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberProgress0012.jpg

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberProgress0014.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberProgress0015.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/LightsaberProgress0016.jpg

The "flange" on the bladeholder was actually from my brothers sinktube he got. it was like a 15" or so sinktube with a bend and a "nut" with that little flange part sticking off the end of it.

I figured hell that will work for on my bladeholder.

And when I get my Crown emitter from tim I think it will look pritty sweet.

The plate Iam debating on shrinking it about a 1/4" or less, Not sure yet. But I need to make some slots for more sound vents. so I may leave this plate as it is, I got the other side thats a little bit bigger so well see.

I think its turning out pritty darn good and cant wait to get this saber finished.

Earlyer today I did a test fit of the boards and battery pack. and these new ones of tims the 2600AA packs My board wont fit on top of the pack and fit in the saber so I checked and The boards are gonna be sitting togeather above them. ITs a good thing I decided to stick the speaker on my heatsink cause there is no room in the 7" section for anything.

I got room for my recharge port in the pommel but thats it. Iam debating on taking out half a rib in the accent led area so I can fit my other 5mm led.

These 2 leds togeather match the spects that of the 3mm led that I got from tim. So Yeah 2 leds dasy chained off the one resistor(150ohm 1/4 w) should be ok if not then there gonna be underpowerd which is fine. there yellow so there still gonna shine like mad.

All I need now is to get my tip from ultra wait for my emitter and speaker and have my bro make my disk for the recharge port.

Then gonna wire it all up and see if I fry something.

Sorry about the pics this camera isent the greatest.

WOOHOO.

Thanks to my brother the hilt progress is almost finished. Just need a couple more things and this is finished.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/SAberProgress001.jpg

I just need to drill the hole for the accent led and add a couple cap screws as a switch guard.

Got to get a 10/32 thumbscrew and another buttonhead screw for the top band for the bladeholder.

Still waiting on the washer for the pommel recharge port.

Almost there ALMOST THERE!

Hasid Lafre
07-15-2007, 03:34 PM
Why thank you. I hope to have it finished in a week. but thats up to my brother cause he knows soldering better than I do.

I can do it in a pinch but I dont trust my soldering work.

So, Earlyer today bro and I were working on our video for the CSA submition to be a true jedi knight and the sweat on my hands have already tarnished the brass quite well and Iam loving it.

I just have to tarnish the other brass part I have, maybe keep it in hand thru out the day while doing something, No idea what yet but hopefully I can get it to match up well.

Just waiting for the crown then the hilt work will be finished, the led should be going in tomorrow I hope if not oh well.

So then I can start the wiring and recharging the battery.

Well folks I need some help here. I need some ideas for accents on my plate. All I got so far is an accent led and the lever of my sliding switch.

Anyone got ideas as to how I could make it look less bleak?

BTW I drilled about 15 holes onder the plate for sound. I hope it works well cause I would be really pissed if I have a part that looks like swiss cheese.

Hey, some of us like swiss cheese....

Hasid Lafre
07-28-2007, 07:14 PM
Well I did some alteration to the activation plate. I drilled holes in the top and bottem then I took the other half of the plate and cut it down for an overlay plate to hide the mistakes of the plate switch hole.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/PlateMod.jpg

I only marked the holes and such will work on it more when I got a more steady hand.

WOOHOO!!!!!

Got my crown emitter. THANKS TIM!

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/CrownEmitter.jpg

I cleaned up the crown edges a bit and It dosent fit quite like I wanted. I imagen that if my bladeholder was unsanded it owuld fit perfectly. so Iam gonn ahave my brother lathe down my bladeholder a bit to make it fit snug as a bug in a rug.

Not sure when that will happen but Iam freanen happy that I am so close to haveing this finished.

I need to work on my plates a bit more still.

Hasid Lafre
08-08-2007, 04:46 PM
Well my brother has about 70% of the saber wired up.

So tomorrow the rest of the wiring hopefully, then to figure out where to place my speaker and how to keep it there.

I got to finish up my plates. which at this point is annoying me. so I hope this setup will turn out the way I hopted it will.

Still trying to find an reflective film idea for my blade tip.

goldsaberwarrior
08-08-2007, 09:12 PM
Why not use one of the adhesive discs sold here. They look good to me. If not then mabey some time of renolds wrap type reflective material.

Jay-gon Jinn
08-08-2007, 09:27 PM
He wants his blade tip to light up, or at least glow. Using the reflective discs blocks light to the tip, leaving it dark.

You don't have a stricker sheet or some type of labels (adress labels or stamps) with that wax paper backing on them? It works, that's what I've been using.

goldsaberwarrior
08-08-2007, 10:28 PM
okay I must've read wrong.

Hasid Lafre
08-09-2007, 05:21 AM
Yeah I keep forgetting to grap it when I go to my bros house.

VT said to cut out a disk with the left over corbin film I have. Will that work?

Jay-gon Jinn
08-09-2007, 08:07 AM
Well, I tried it and didn't like it. The tip lit up, but was so bright, I couldn't look at it. Didn't sem to help much with reflecting the light either. I still want to try some of that chrome-looking car window tint.

xwingband
08-09-2007, 08:45 AM
The adhesive backed stuff in the store lights up the tip if you cut it right. Especially with the thicker films like Ultra's and Gelu's it works well. Just like 1/16th is all that needed. It allows light to come through but blocks enough to not blind a person.

Hasid Lafre
08-09-2007, 08:55 AM
Well I had one of the stores disks but I used it on my other tip cause I thought that the thick walled tip on the tinwalled blade would hold but then I found out that the shoulder is verymuch needed.

I tryed to peal it off but for fear of ripping it I stopted.

I have no idea when my bro is gonna make another order so untill then or something arises Iam stuck with a dull looking blade.

Which reminds me I need to clean my film up badly.

Hasid Lafre
08-09-2007, 05:19 PM
The saber is finished, Pics to come later after it charges up.

2 discrepencys

The speaker how I have it placed does not make it very loud at all. my suggestion is if your gonna stick your speaker in a forward section then you better have it setup properly and some other junk. Iam trying to figure out how to make this viable cause ATM my speaker is sitting on the side. No way to set it up straight as the wires get in the way.

The retract sound isent in tune with the blade retract but that I can deal with.

Also from what I understand it never will be.

:? So as soon as its charged up and no smokeing I will get some pics up.

Jay-gon Jinn
08-09-2007, 09:10 PM
The shut down sound doesn't match up with the fade off of the led? What soundboard are you using?

Hasid Lafre
08-10-2007, 07:11 AM
05 vader. Iam gonna deal with it cause I know my brother dosent want to dig into it and switch it out.

Jay-gon Jinn
08-10-2007, 08:05 AM
I suppose it didn't have all the wires for the led strip on it? I got an Anakin from your brother that only had the two wires, a pos and a neg for the led, but I added the rest and it worked fine, everything matched up after that.

Hasid Lafre
08-10-2007, 09:44 AM
Well thats what we did was we removed some of the neg led strip wires to free up some space but the retract sound dident change at all.

Iam sure if I used a luke it would match better. The luke has a slightly longer retract sound. A yoda board would be best cause its got the longest retract sound Ive heard yet.

But I will deal with this. the sound itself I need to do something about it. its hardly noticable at all with this setup. so iam gonna cut some slots into my switch plate to let sound come out more.

But the retract look and sound not matching up dosent bother me much.

But the ignition is really nice.

vortextwist
08-10-2007, 12:23 PM
he has the led hooked up to corbins board and using the mr for sound. corbins fade out is shorter then the sound from the mr.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb168/Sidneyious/Lightsaber%20Pics/99FinishedSaber.jpg

All thats left is to figure out how to get sound to come out more than it does and a k1 bin1 cyan to spank this 3watter to the bowels of hell!!!!

Oh and I need to secure my crown to the bladeholder, My bro had machined my bladeholder down to let the crown fit the way I want it to.

I thought bro and I sent the right dimentions but I guess we were off, as tim was prolly going off of BHstyle1 that he had. so on mine it dident fit right cause of the messed up wet sanding job I did.

But eather way its very boss I love it, I just got a few things to do. I want to move the corbin board clash sensor farther up the hilt, but other than them couple things Its damn near finished. but finished enough for me for now.

This sound thing is bugging me thou.

Hasid Lafre
08-12-2007, 08:09 PM
Yeah, I know how to use MSpaint enought to get basic designs and such. Look at my sig. I took a pic of a ship and added the words using aurabesh.

But I got design idea to figure out and see if its possable for tim to make them.

Theres a couple parts that I think will be very diffacult to make but we will see.
