i have seen that knob on the side at the hardware store, back in the drawers where thy have the knobs. youd have to paint it, but it has a bolt ,olded into it, simply drill and tap threads thru into the holder, and you got that part done. the rest, id have to look at, i seen a guy on ebay once who sold the activator strips in that design, cant remember who, but i betcha ultra would know. the shroud, shouldnt be too hard to redo with the added block on top.

as far as hiding the opening slots, ehh, im not sure what youd do for that, unless you used a fresh new pipe for it, as you said maybe the mhs system would give you that, and a MR soundboard, which would run your led in it. after converting a vader fx, it shouldnt be hard to make up a similar type of on/off switch, using a mini slider with something to catch the head of the switch on bottom of strip.

RS has some really small sliders that will fit inbetween the sides. or if ya had a old vader esb fx you could use the midband off it, with a new strip. if you knew the thread pattern/size off the MR you could get a pipe from online metals for the main, and thread the end for the stock mr endcap. and use the mr guts in it.

any way you go, i think its not gonna be a cheap convert. the easiest would be use the esb, but then ya got the vent holes to cover up. or hide, and look like they were never there.

if ya knew a welder, maybe, you could get them to weld up the holes and grind them flush, then rechrome the mr hilt. dont know how pricey that would be either.

tough call on it any way you look at it.

Aluminum tube 1.5" say 10" long or so shouldnt cost more $10 shipped from online metals

MHS could work too with a custom EIII endcap.

It looks like end of the emitter has a smaller diameter than the hilt body. Kinda like MHS emitter 1. I wonder if that could screw on to the MHS body then attach the "block" on the emitter. It could secure with a set screw. I see a set screw looking hole on top of the "block".

thats what i was thinkin. you could go that route. and make it from scratch and parts off a esb fx vader. that shroud would need a rework done to it. if you used one of tims, or one from blastech, theyre resin, so building them up a bit would be easier, than the oone i have on my heiland vader. as above, i used a metal one, to help with the dring support. you could do it, but youd need to weld and grind it. much harder to do. unless by chance you lucked onto a metal shroud in that design. maybe try parks. i havent looked in awile, they might have one like that. or ebay search for one.

nah, i think its an illusion brought on by the back part of the shroud, i think its the same size as the hilt tube.

theres several heilands on ebay pretty cheap right now too.
ya knkow, after lookin at the rotj shroud, it looks close but im not sure bout the under side part that goes round the tube, is that wide enough, or too narrow?

if its narrow, wouldnt be hard to add some epoxy puty to build it thicker in that spot.

after i found a few more good shots of a rotj vader, i have come to the conclusion that yes, you could use the shroud off it for a rots vader. it looks to be close to same thickness on the bottom section goin round the hilt. the only thing youd have to do is put a pipe cut at the right angle on the front. which i think would be the hardest part of it to make saty put, without popping off on ya when you duel.

as you can see behind the shroud is a raised bar section not clearly seen in do-clos shot. and the end cap is more like qui-gonns endcap.

Boy you guys were busy while I was sleeping:
The ROTS saber project is very interesting, I have wanted one to complete my EP III Vader costume. Imagine pulling it off your belt and inserting a blade and hit the power switch while everyone just stands there with their mouths open.[8D]

Wolverine good pics your costume is really looking good you should be able to get into the 501st. The only thing that caught my eye was that you need some screen on the inside of the mouth grille because in a couple of shots you can see your face other that it looks great.[:D]

Bro the sig looks good with the new pictures, the only flaw was the mouth grille and that is an easy fix and then you are set. You can do some tweaking if you want but I would say just go have fun with your costume it rocks.

easy fix for the screens wolverine. i used black window screen on the inside of mine. you can get it at any hardware store and its cheap too. i cut a triangle for the upper, and with fan hotglued in place on lower pieced around it. yeah, you see the fan, but i dont give a crap, cuz my health is more important, i have to breathe. lol

and noone even noticed it anyways. i had one guy point out on the sides of my neck was showing a bit where the brace meets the mask, cuz of the cuttin i had to do on the neck flare, it shows a bit, but thats an easy fix too, either paint the sides of my neck with black face paint, or wear a black turtleneck instead of a white tee shirt. which is what i have been doing. something i thought would help, but maybe it doesnt, i dunno.
i also had added a block of foam to lift the helmet higher up, maybe i just needed to squash my head up in there a bit more. all this will be gone if i ever get the moolah for a NG helmet.

i also had considered doing the refit of the dome. to make it lower in back. using the mouse pad idea and velcro changing around.

at any rate, when the pipsqueak was pointin that out, i told him i knew it was like that. and he shut up. that was the only criticism i got at all. nothing on anything else. that just shows you, i almost had it nailed down completely. but i think the tiny neck showing on side was due to the refit with a extra block of foam i put in it. i hadnt had it in there till just before i went to con. cux for some odd reason, the helmet seemed to ride on the armor again, where i could turn my head inside the mask, without the mask turning. thats annoying.

i think all fit probs will be gone, when i eventually get a better bodysuit to wear. one with the nice panels where you dont see it, for cooling, then i wont have to wear the vest anymore. and then the armor should sit lower on me. it does seem to wanna ride up, not much, cuz of front straps i added, so it stays down pretty good now.

i think what it is tho, is the flaps of the vest that run over my shoulders, i think it adds a 1/4 inch to the height, making the armor ride a lil higher. a better suit, and no vest, should make it ride lower.

i hope those captures will help. i have a few more, but posted the ones i thought would help if anyone needed. and the saber pics come right off MR site. they give you more of a better view of the block between the shroud and activator. and the knobs on both sides.

I am having a time finding gun metal dupli-color paint these people here don't understand that when you sell something you should replace your stock. Both auto parts stores don't have any and I stopped at wally world and I figured they would have it, no luck they barely have anything in dupli-color paint, I guess all the punk gang bangers buy their spray paint at wally world. Then I went to the so called craft dept to pick up some foam rubber to relign the rubies with and they didn't even have any, I wonder why the stupid store is even open they never have anything and the store is always filthy inside and out. I avoid our local wally world at all cost and now I have more reason too. I will have to track the paint down on line because I hate having to run all over trying to find something and the gas will cost more than the shipping sad isn't it.

Struck out online everyone is out of stock on gunmetal[:(]

cool huh? notice any screwups in the xray shots? his hand holding the emperor is human, remember the pic i showed on other page, his left arm was a mechanical as well. a lil boo boo. and unless he lost more of his right arm, only from the forearm down was mechanical, remember when dooku cut it off? the xray shot shows it apparently all the way to shoulder. another boo boo, maybe? and also, it looks like darth has a bad tooth problem too, it looks like he has fangs instead of regualr human teeth. a boo boo?

i seen a forum where they had these shots and talked bout all the apparent added stuff inplace of real skeleton parts. but i used my power dvd to capture better shots of them off my dvd.

yeah, the power dvd, allows me to pause and go frame by frame in pause mode, and capture any frame i wish, and to think i had this all along, and didnt know it.

Thanks Wolverine but I have to match what I have already used or I will have to redo the shoulder bells I need Dupli-color T177 for a match. I am going to try Napa Monday morning or If I go to Lakeland this weekend I can try a couple of auto parts places. I am spraying the dome today so I hope to have this helmet finished soon then onto the fiberglass helmet. I hope to get my reveal kit next week and if it works I may turn the next rubies into a three piece reveal.[:p]

i got one sighted and watched on ebay. its a resin cast reveal in raw form. guy wants 220 BIN but hey, ya never know, might squeak in there with a low bid. bottom looks a bit warped on neck, i think it is a rubies cast.

Lan I would not bid very high on that one at all the whole bottom piece looks lopsided, plus the shipping from England will be pretty high. You would be better off with the fiberglass pos that I have it would be less work to get ready to use. [xx(]

o i know do-clo, i wouldnt bid high on it anyways, i only bid 15 on it, lol
its not really lopsided do-clo. look again, if you see, theres a batch of resin between the 2 parts that gets cut off, you have to look square at the upper part, then realign the look at the bottom part. its the center flashing thats actually making it look off.

yes i did see that one, i was goin to bid on it, but seen tet did, so i thought id let him have a go. maybe i might bid at the end if its not too high. im limited right now on cashola. the darn wheel thing.

on a good news point, the BC come in the mail today. hurray!! so all thats left is the 500 cash im supposed to get. if that a spendable wherever however i want deal, i may try and save some of it, to use towards a helmet.

look at the top section, tilt yer head a smidgen, so you look square on at it, it looks good, now look to lower section tilt yer head so you look square on at it as well, it look square too. its just the bit of resin flashing inbetween that makes it look lopsided. its a nice piece, but i betcha will go for more than i can afford.

a guy could take some glass strips and lay on the inside to add strength to it. it would be a stout helmet then.

With all off the mods on the rubies helemt the mask has become pretty stiff. I just want to get it done and send it on its way. A good fiberglass helmet would be nice but it will be a while before I can aford one too many other things to deal with first. I will focus on finishing my parts that I do have in between saber projects so those can be done and out of the way. Raining again no surprise it is Florida. Lan if you make it down next year we will try and work it out to hit Mickey Land with you guys. I also know a few good places to stay in Kissimmee.

now that sounds like a plan sith bros. i stayed at a hotel back in 91 right around the kissamee area. how far is that from you do-clo?

on the squares, i assume you mean the upper heat vents. well i dunno why he did, but a dremel would cut them right out, so you could use nice ones, or maybe just use the ones he has on it, too hard to tell how much detail they have from that shot.

i found another one pretty cheap right now, and the huy only had 1 pic. i emailed him, and he's gonna email me back more pics, i asked for diff angles, and dome off, inside dome and whatnot,, so we could see the attachment mech.

on the above resin one, i have seen really nice metal vents, someplace on ebay once, but they were pretty pricey, like 65 bucks for them. most all kits, are resin anyways, and you paint them. i suppose that would work, if you use a really good paint, and were skilled at it. i think i can do a good job, cuz i have a airbrush.

and that would be the best way to do it, all details parts airbrushed. it goes on evenly, and into the recesses better. a few light coats, and bamm! ya got her done.

Fall is a much better time to come to Florida not as hot and you are not in peak vaction time either so lodging is a little cheaper. We wouldn't want Darth Vader passed out from a heat stroke.[:p] Beleive me if we could do it there would be lots of pictures, might even make the news with all of the Vader costumes in one place or do a few shots for the hotel Darth Vader slept here.[:p]

I am about 1 hour from Kissimmee and the wife and I go over there and stay a few times each year just to get away makes a nice weekend get away and they have Old Town whichs is a few old streets with old style shops and every Saturday night they have cruise night with old cars, it is a lot of fun, could even be more fun with Darth Vader there.

nvrmind i found it. i also had asked porty bout a set of aluminum side rods and the green/red squares, and aluminum coin slots with red perspex. im waitn back on how much. also a rots chestbox too. i may make one up from scratch, and use his board in it, rather than hack around on the rubies. so far all i have done on it, is swap out the rods.

Should just ask him for a whole ROTS kit, minus the electronics. [^]

The coin slots on the ROTS kit aren't aluminum, they're the same plastic as the switches. Which is the correct color. The ESB/ROTJ chestbox had the shiny aluminum coinslots. [;)]
I do like the lenses in the coinslots the Rubies chestbox has though, pretty sharp looking [^]

he got back and said all the items without a box was 45, and with a box was 70. if im gonna build up a new box, i want to put metal slots on it, it will look better than the plastic ones. its just my own opinion, and the way i wanna build it.

Yea Sith Bros the place would think they being invaded by Darth Vaders. I am not sure if my Vader will be done by then as it depends on cash flow and time. But I hope to have my sith Fett armor done by then, I can do a lot of the parts myself and scale them to fit my size since I have a armor set to work from. I ordered a Jango Fett reference cd from The Dented Helmet so that should be a big help as I want to use that style more than Boba's style. Lan you can do the ROTS chest box fairly easy since you have most of the stuff already.

all i got that aint already being used is the lightboard kit from porty. it has the rockers, so all i need will be coin slots another set of rods and the squares. i was going to do up a whole new box. i didnt want to hack anymore on the rubies for fear id screw it up, and then id be hosed but good till i got a new box made up anyways. this way i will use the rubies as a backup, or for the Bday parties or whatnot. now if i used your smallblock box, i think it has the top blocks on it, id have to cut them off. but it could be done. unless i got sitharmors urethane box, which would still need the top blocks cut off. i got a whole year to worry bout it, so no super rush. the helmet is a concern too. i have to save up for that too.

ya know, i drove down to st louis a couple years ago for vac. we did some stuff, went to the zoo, went to the arch, rode up to top in it, got some pics of it and from the top to ground, i could see my car from up there. how far from there are you wolverine?

i was just lookin on the u studios site. checked on packages, but couldnt get anything right now, as next year around sept. was too far off for them to have anything listed.

like wolverine said, thats another year away, and all of us would have time to finish up our costumes. i would have to drive to wherever, cuz i dont think i want to load my suit on a plane and get it damaged in any way from rough handling. but we also got to look at the gas prices to my friends. right now, its 2.87 here. went up 10 cents just the other day. and its lookin like we'll be above 3 bucks again soon. a few months back, it made it to 3.25. this damn iraqi crap is bs! i knoew it was gonna go up, cuz 3 weeks ago, we had lightning strike a oil tank in glenpool, a few miles sw of tulsa. they drained out most of it, but it burned up alot of oil. we all knew cuz of this prices would go up. it did.

and the iraqi crap aint helpin either. its bad enough again, you cant afford to go anywhere for pleasure anymore. just to work. heck, at this price, it costs me 30 bucks or more to fill up my saturn. on my short paycheck weeks, thats almost a 3rd of the check. its ridiculous. so yeah, we can plan this out, but when the time comes, its gonna depend really, on the gas prices. id have to have an extra 500 to 600 just for gas, 500 to 600 for a rental car to drive there, 500 to 600 for eats and drinks, motels along the way, and then the package for hotels there, and admission to parks.

thats whay i was lookin at package deals. 500 for the 2 of us for hotel and admission. options would be, a car rental there, if i flew, and then no suit brought along, or sabers.

it sucks, but in reality, we will just have to plan it, and wait to see what the situation is when the time comes. hopefully by then, this crap will be fixed up.

thats the main reason i chose the trip plan i got for free. probably the only time in my life to get outside the U.S. i'll ever get.

if there was a orlando package, i coulda gone there, and it wouldof been cool indeed. it wouldnt cost me a dime really. but, it wasnt on the list.

well enough rantin i reckon. we'll plan on it happenin, and just wait to see what the situation is when the time comes.

Gas is becoming an issue for everything, I have a Geo Tracker it is good on gas but 30 bucks to fill the tank hurts, 2.89 a gallon when I filled up the first of the week so it has probably went up again by now. We do have a year to prepare for a Brotherhood get together so we will just keep our eyes open and start saving for gas, maybe in a year we can save up enough.[:p]

I almost have the belt boxes ready for paint I need to cut out for the switches, if anyone decides to build their own belt boxes get the plastic ones they are a lot easier to cut out. I have the metal ones and they are a pain to cut[:(]

Seth that is a reveal kit, I am going to take a shot at turning a Rubies into a reveal but that project will be later after the fiberglass helmet. I was reading on a forum about how happy a guy was to get his freshly painted helmet from Vaderpainter it only took 14 months.[xx(] He may be good but that is absurd 14 months to paint a helmet I could melt a rubies down and recast it in that amount of time.[:D] I stopped at the auto parts store and they had gotten a shippment of paint in so I now have my gunmetal that I need to finish my chest armor I did a little work on it with the heat gun and I think I will be able to use it the fit is much better, or at least until I can aford some fiberglass armor.

I know that my Brothers to the north are not used to the heat, but trust me Florida is no fun either temps can run into the high 90's and I have seen 100+ on many summer days, then add in our lovely humidity and it becomes a real killer. I used to work at a place that made concrete products and we had a thermometer on a telephone pole and the heat caused it to bust.[xx(] That is why I recomennd late fall for a Florida meet of the Brotherhood. Lan good idea on a sith lord map[^]

yeah, close to those, the ones i seen were pretty close to them. and yes, my alltime fav x-man is wolverine too. there are some other 2nd and 3rd timers, but hes the best.

found these from sitharmor. they have the screws to attach. this is what i was hunting for. but it dont have the red perspex tho. i would have to hunt that down.

but 15 is good for metal slots.

Seth I trimmed the entire area out to the edge of the eye opening, when I was done triming the eye opening had a flat area around it and that is what you have to fill to make it set the lens back into the eye openings. Here is a good guide on moding the helmet and it shows the eye openings cut out. http://www.imperial-fleet.com/vader/

Lan you will have to make your own lens for the coin slots as I haven't found one that fits, I got some xtra lens with my porty kit and they are two short, I was thinking of getting some red acrylic and making the lens myself but it will be a pain in the rear area.

actually, i had looked on ebay once before and foud red perspex and othe rcolors. i was gonna buy them to make the red/green squares, and belt box squares. and the like. i bet i can still find some on there. it wont be real hard to trim it down to fit. ya leasve them just a tad long, cuz the ends fit into a slot down in there that keeps them held in place.

For those with really good eyesight it would be easy to cut and fit the lens but for those of us that are vision challenged it will not be that easy. I have to use a flip down magnifying to be able to solder on a printed circuit board or any other small task.

hey, my eyesight aint that great either, i have to wear glasses too. i have lots of trouble when it gets right between distance wise of my bifocals. i know what you mean do-clo. i can wear the helmet ok without using my glasses, but for anything like reading or driving, i have to have them.

Yeah, I thought of that website about 10 minutes after I asked that question. It looks like you cut everything out so there is no signs of the old lens slots. One other thing, how do you plan on reattaching your grill and tusks? I thought of predrilling a small hole where the rivets are and use really small screws. What was your idea?

You are correct on cutting out the eye openings and you will not believe how much better you field of vision is with the eye openings cut out. The grille will fit back in pretty good even after you cut the top of the rivets off, I plan on using the good old hot glue gun to hold mine in place. But if you want to get all fancy you could use smaill screws to hold the grille in[:p][:p][:p]

The armor that 502smallblock is offering is ESB/ROTJ armor, but you could rework the bells to make either ANH or ROTS chest armor.

I am always looking at options as possibilities. I found some smoke grey transparent acrylic in 4"x4" pieces for 2 bucks each so I ordered a couple to try making lens for the fiberglass helmet. I also ordered a piece of red to take a shot at making some lens for the metal coin slots. I did find something interesting the guy from South America that was making the high quality vader leather suit is no longer a registered user on ebay, figures he was making a great suit.

I know it says Lycra, but backsides look like heavy cotton, which is still HOT [}:)]
Two piece suits are cooler, temp wise, but it would be harder to keep a neat appearence, as the lines can easily be off, and harder to keep two piece consealed, as jacket can slide out of belt, etc, etc, etc... [:(]

yes i know the 2 part suits are harder to keep aligned. but the sitharmor suit is the same all way round no vent panels like the one i posted. it would be ok, if the jacket went far enough down. if it was too short then youd have the slide up probs.

oh and BTW, i won a set of shins from smallblock. gottem for 27 bucks plus shipping. yeaaa. just have to put on the straps and buckles, and ill have a nice set of shins. only 3 things left now, a nicer, cooler suit, another chestbox build to use porty's lightboard in, and qa nice helmet.

Trik Toys sells a replacement lens for the rubies vader helmet but it is a direct replacement for the stock lens, even though you would be able to see through them it still would look like a rubies[xx(]

That rubies xl suit is used, somebody else has already broke wind in it. I have seen a couple of listings for the rubies xl suit brand new for 549.00 and you get to break wind in it first[:p]

A one peice body suit is better looking and easier to wear but it is a hot one. The best deal would be with the back open with a net material to help you stay cool. To be honest with you Bros that is a major concern for me being in Florida, will the suit be so hot that I can't stand to wear it[?] I may need a portable air conditioner like the nasa guys use with their space suits.[:p]

i may sell of a few parts, but i wil keep some too. if i do the bday parties or whatnot, i can use the rubies stuff, like the shins and the chestbox, but for cons and special stuff, the new fg shins and not yet built, new chestbox. that way lil kiddies wont come up and kick my fg shins and bust them, or hit and break my chestbox, the good one, yet to be built. the stuff i may get rid of is, the old rubies belt-n-boxes, and rubies cod. right now, that the only 2 things i would get rid of. and since i added the belt hook to the old rubies, and seein that folks selling the rubies belts are fetching around 125 for them, i should get around that for mine, and around 40 to 50 out of the cod, maybe, not sure on that one, ive seen them around 25 to 50, but those dont seel to well on their own.

so if i do, i will let it go as a set, and should get maybe 150 for the setup. i will need to take some good shots with the camera, and postem on ebay, and see what happens.

maybe around end of month. ill be busy getting the pics all xfered and whatnot. i have an old hdd in my pooter, that not power connected, but is cabled in. all i have to do is plug it in. its a 60 gig. it has my old os on it. im running off a 160gig drive right now. i was thinkin of hooking that one back up as a slave drive, wipe it, format it and use the whole drive as a place to convert the camcorder footage to. the windows movie maker eats alot of space when xfering the tapes. a 60 gig, may not even be enough.

but if i can do 1 tape at a time, then copy it to a dvd, then erase for next tape, and so on, that would work ok.

also noticed on my photobucket you can upload video too. maybe i can get some footage uploaded, slow arsed dialup, may be a long time to do it tho, but then i could post links, to them for y'all to see. especially that con costume footage, when it ever gets to me.

on the shins i just got. i think i will try out the waxin on it, see if i can buff a good shine on them like they are, if so, then good ta go, put my straps on and its done. if it dont shine up like i want, then i can paint them with a good gloss black auto paint.

try the easiest first then go to the other if i dont like it.

i got rivets from tandy leather to fasten the straps to the shins, ill just have to cut slots in them for the straps. or maybe something like tet does on his. only thing i dont like bout cuttin slots, is the weak points its gonna have where the straps run thru. could snap off the edges, if ya get what i mean. may have to reinforce that with something in those spots.

any ideas?

i thought of doing it like this:
use a short piece of flat metal on inside of shins at each of the 4 connection points on each shin. with the web strapping on outside. rivited or bolted on. then hanging ends of strapping, would have buckle halfs on them to connect and tension down. extra cut off, leaving enough to loosen and retention when takin off or puttin on.

havin a small strip of metal as a backing should lessen the strain on the fg in that area so it wouldnt break it.

what ya guys think of this method?

Lan on your shins I would fiberglass or epoxy your strap mounting points to the inside of the shin it will be much stronger then rivets. I would even consider fibeglassing the strap to the shin and run the strap around the entire inside of the shin.

well i guess we can do like i said before, and start our own org. called the brotherhood of the sith. and make a name for ourselves. and get more to join up. as we discussed waaaay back, only requirement would be a sith costume of any kind. no matter how MOVIE accurate. cuz we dont care.

was it do-clo or Tet that said they could get a official website in our TBOTS name? still need to do that i guess. i have one i made, its nots finished, and really not what i want, on yahoos geocities. you cant really do much custom stuff on those. whereas a pro site in our name, could be whatever and however we choose it to be.
if none of us know how to design one, we can get one of those web page designer programs.

but i bet someone here in the brotherhood knows how to do it.

Last time I checked I think it was around 75.00 to register your domain name. Then it is a matter of finding a place to host the web site. I have DSL but to get a static IP address is pretty costly each month and I do have a working server I just need a static IP address and we are up and running.

ok, i was lookin on yahoo. its 9.95 to register domain name for 1 year. then you have to get a web hoster. and they have 3 plans there. startin at 8.96 for 1st 2 months, then up to the 11 something. another at 14.96 then up to 19.95 after 2 months. and a third one.

if the domain name is still available after i get back from my cancun trip, i think i will go ahead and pay the 10 bucks and register it, then we can figure out the host.

ok that sounds cool guys. yeah, im leaving on the 18th, and i'll be back late in the evening on the 21st.

i know i temporarily leave the thread in good hands, as we all are sith brothers here. and i will be lookin forward to do-clo's info he might find out for us.

i still think if we can get our own site, and fix it up, mostly as a info forum, and anything else we want to add. we can also put links back here and to corbin and ultras sites.

lots of possibilities. mainly its gonna be the money it'll take to get it up, and keep it there. i know we will have a year on the domain name, and as long as we renew before the deadline, we will keep it as long as we keep paying for it. the server hosting is the main money concern, i beleive. if we go thru yahoo. i can fork out the 10 bucks for the domain name.

unless do-clo comes up with better solutions. we will look forward to his findings.

Yeah, that's a "Portumac" mask alright. That Sithlord guy from the 501st who dropped by earlier in this thread with his "modification page" on a Rubies Vader, and how he got into the 501st, he had one on his "mod page" toward the bottom, compared it with his modded Rubies Vader Mask/helmet. The "Northglass" helmet/mask is real close, and it may have been molded off a modified "Portumac" mask/helmet. The "Northglass" version's helmet sets lower in back, from what I can see. [;)]

yeah, i was thinkin the same thing on lucas's disappearance. i bet 501st has somethin to do with it. i lay money on it.

well, bro's i placed my old rubies cod up on ebay for sale. theres a guy right near me, over in edmond, that fsandolva or sometinm like that, i put mine up in a similar fashion to his as far as price and set it to go off after i get back from cancun. i got a 100 res. on it, so i dont have to sell it unless it hits it. i'll leter ride out and see if i get any hits on it. if not, ehh, i might add the belt to the listing and up the price.

guess i better go get a box and pack it up huh? jus in case. i added some money to the package and handling to cover packin costs. but that dont show until they check out. ebays gonna get around 10 bucks of it. so if i keep the material cost to pack down i can make back a lil bit there.

i dont know the quality of smallblocks stuff, i do know do-clo has his chestbox kit, and i think he said it was pretty good stuff. i just got a pair of shins from him, and when they arrive, i will examine them and see what kinda quality they are.

i reckon, the shins will be a good mark to see if the other armor parts will be of same quality.

Seth Bro you can buy with confidence from 502smallblock he does quality work and is a good guy to deal with. I bought a chest box kit from him and it is very nice and some Boba Fett armor which is the niceset I have seen too bad the scale is to small for me but that is not his fault that my chest is 52 inches[:p] I plan to use it as a pattern to scale up some armor to fit me.
Bro sometimes it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission. [:p][:p][:p]

The 5 watt saber started on ebay tonight so hopefully that will help increase the cash flow.

thanx do-clo that reassures me my shins will be great when they arrive. i hope the cod i put up sells. that will help towards wolverines helmet. and if i can finish welding the claws, i can put up the great saber too. that one should fetch a good price. and with anything i have left from the trip in cash, i might have the money scraped up by winter.

im debating whether to put my efforts first on saving for wolverines NG helmet, or a cooler bodysuit. i have more time for a suit, but not for the helmet, as i know wolverine will need the money soon as possible after he buys the other MR helmet. if he still plans on it, anyways.

the chestbox can come last, im not in any fizz for it. but the suit, and helmet are main concerns.

i still like the one from cucblack. i do think its lycra, which in some shots can look like a cloth, as do-clo said.

that would work pretty well, i could use the vest with the front 2 icepacks, have the other 2 on ice, swappem when the first ones melt down. stay in the suit for the whole day at the con, instead of four a few hours.

i seen another suit, thats been there before, that looks like netting, like mosquito nettings on the spots that dont show, with lil strap cinches to snug it up. that might be ok, but my concern is just how well is the netting stuff sewn on, and straps. i'd hate to tension one down, and rippppp!.

so i dunno. i told them everything i have done, and still plan to do. i think its the helmet thats the biggest hangup. and when i get a good one, then maybe theyll let me in. we'll see, i reckon, okie talk thar.

well i got 2 more replies guys. one guy said my suit looked awesome and didnt know what the fuss was over my suit being admitted. and said he'd troop with me any day.

another was interested in the phased coolin vest i use. so some interest is insueing on my suit it appears. they seen the pics i posted, and are liking it. we all agree tho, the helmet either needs a complete rework as do-clo is doing, or a new nice one like the NG helmet. they might accept me if i get it. with maybe a minor tweak or 2 here and there, i can swing that. dont know bout the way i hang my saber, and style of saber tho for rots. they might tell me i have to have the rots style and covertech hanger. which means, more hassle to change it around.

Lan that suit you saw is made by Alvarez from South America in fact that is him in the picture, so now we know the whole story. The rubies helmet can be nice with a lot of work, I would say pick up a spare to rework because it will take you a while to do it right. I still haven't received my reveal kit and the guy doesn't answer any email, until last night when he claimed that my check just cleared and that was what he was waiting on, I called BS and told him it was paypal and I have the proof if needed and to please contact me, no response of course so this morning he got another email saying that if I don't receive the item get a straight response or a refund then the next recourse is to refer the matter to ebay and paypal. We will see if that gets his attention.[}:)] Darth Technous don't play no games.

so do-clo, your sayin the one i found, above the swtoys guy. is the one and the same lucas? dangit, i didnt think that was his cuz its different in back, lucas's looks more like cucblacks, or is cucblacks the one you meant?

i really am hurtin on makin a decision on whether or not to go ahead and put a bid up on cucblacks suit, its at 119 right now, and i would have to bid, and email him that if i won, it would be the 21st before i would know, and pay for it. i had the wife look at the pics of it, and even she said, if thats lycra panels, it would be cool indeed. i wear lycra bicycle shorts under the suit, and that the only thing that stays dry from sweating.

but that net one from swtoys, looks cooler yet, but, i dont like the lil straps thingies, and whether theyre strong enough to hold up.

what ya guys think? give me opinions on the 2 and which you think would be better, im shooting for the lycra one for 119. i can swing up on that one easier than 200 starting out.

I have a pack back that has the same nylon netting material and it is very strong. I would go for the better one as you have a good suit now. I got an email form 502smallblock
and the measurements on his chest armor is 9 inch neck opening and 20 inches shoulder to shoulder without the bells, and there may be a vader helmet in the works[:p][:p][:p]

dont think i'll have that much to afford right now, if it goes back thru again, i may then. just bad timing with the trip in 2 days. may have to wait till afterwards, see how much i got left in money.

right now, i'll be taking bout 750 with us, only 400 in cash, the rest on my credit card.

i may just hold off on the suit a lil bit longer, and use leftover money towards that NG helmet of wolverines.

yeah that guys pics sucks real bad of that suit. i cant beleive they let that guy in, and with the way mine looks, theyre frowning on mine.

so far ive had a few replies on the 501st forum on my costume. they all have thought it looks very good. and even told me dont let the legions politics discourage me. they think theyre just a bit stupid on that too.

so we'll see, maybe im causing enough waves there, with wolverine tryin to get in too, as well, they may be actually sittin back and rethinking things. i doubt it, but ya never know i guess.

The vents I got from JediJeff won't be a good canidate for what yer looking to do LAN, they are solid. [:(]

I was there a little longer talking with Corbin and Tim popped in for a while. One weekend Lan is off we will have to plan a sith take over of the chatroom[}:)]

I am watching that chest armor from 502smallblock, if the price stays low I my get it. I can either rework the bells or take a shot at making my own, or I could just do a different version of Vader to get into the 501st easier. I do kinda like the ESB/ROTJ look and I could add a leather cowl to my cape and line it and I would be good on that and the other items will switch fairly easy just need some differnt switches from Portumac. Or if I do a ANH version I can just paint the switches on the chest box. I am leaning in that direction. The only thing that will not work is the gloves and they should be easy to sell, they are nice leather.

The chestbox would be an easy conversion to ANH, if you got "Porty's" ROTS box. Disable, or remove the red switch lightboard, and reverse the switch orientation, paint silver switches with *white (*I think), done. [^]

I'm glad I didn't hangout too much later, I would have been on there all night with those guys. Lots to talk about....[:D][:p] It would be awesome if we could get Seth, and LAN on there too. [:D]

I was looking seriously at 502Smallblock's fiberglass gear, it would have completed the Rubies armor replacements for me, and at a damn good price!!! but unfortunately, the armor is too big, which is good for you! [^]
Our Sith Brother Seth also has his eye on that set, so you've got some friendly competition [;)] But I see he aslo has an auction for just the chest armor & bells, also currently at a good price. [^][:D]

I am watching the armor only not the armor and chest box there is one bid on the armor and I wish I new if it was Seth I would let it go If I knew it was him. But smallblock keeps his bidder id's private so there is no way to tell.

At one point last night the tech stuff was shooting over the heads of some of the people in the chat room[:D] Trying to get some painting done today the mask is finished and I just have to cut and install a liner for it and the dome will need another coat or two of paint. The chest armor has the gunmetal on it and is drying. I am going to wax the hememt and mask to get a really nice shine and then hopefully find them a new home.

Congrads on the armor Seth, you will really like it I am sure it will be a first class piece, the chest box is a good item also. I am still thinking on the armor I have a couple of hours left before I have to do anything. I finished the paint on the dome so maybe I can get the whole thing up on ebay in the near future. I still have to reline the mask with padding and attach the straps but I think it looks very good. It should sell well I hope.

Ok I won the chest armor, I measured the rubies and it should fit me better, now to do a different version or mod the bells[:(]

I filed a complaint with paypal about the guy that has been jerking me around on the reveal kit, within 2 hours I got a response from him, he says that it will be mailed within 48 hrs. He claims to be out of the country (I have heard that one before) and his step son's car is in the shop for repair. I guess we shall see if he follows through or not. His other excuse was waiting for check to clear, no check, paypal.

I bought a mini version of the MR Vader ROTS to use as a reference, you got a good deal on the MR full size I think I would just use it for pictures because it will only increase in value so I don't think I would modify it. I have considered using the rubies bells and I will see how they fit once the armor gets here, smallblock has a set of bells listed for 15.00 and I may get those to modify, if I mess up I still will have a set for my armor.

cool, ole porty emailed me back a price of 55 on the vents. so i looked on ebay and seen a set from him there. i didnt buy it now for 55 but i bid on it, thus knocking the BIN off there completely. its set to end a couple days after im back, so i might end up with a set for a lil less, we'll see i guess.

im hopin to have a lil cash left from the trip, to put back for the NG helmet. and i might have to save till end of august for enough to send wolverine for it. we'll have to see how that goes along too.

waitin on shins to show up too. might not get here till after i leave tho. its ok, i will have something to do when i get back.

That was the third set I tried to get, as I did what you did LAN, and put a bid up, then I missed the end of the previous 2 auctions, as someone outbid me. [:(!]
So I emailed him, and he said he had 10 sets. So he said he would immediately put another up, so he tries, at least. [8D]
I did the "buy it now", 'cause with my luck, I would have missed the end of that one too. [:(]
I put the one yer bidding on LAN in my watch list, to keep an eye on it. [;)]
I should get the ROTS Vader saber sometime this week, from what that guy's auction said [:D]

for the sake of arguement wolverine, jeffs brace does fit the NG lid ok doesnt it, since your keepin the one that came with the NG, i just need to know the jeffrey one fits it ok,

i had thought i would be getting the brace that came with the NG helmet, i ididnt know you wanted to keep it. doesnt matter really, as long as jeffs fits it ok.

i guess you could just knock a lil off the 500, since it was part of the setup when you got it, say 50 bucks or so if you think thats fair enough.

im hopin to have the money by end of august at least to send for it. so you can get your MR then.

and i did what i did on the vents cuz i seen they would go off after i got back, so i might have a good chance to keep it up, but i wont go past the 55 he said in the email, if it goes more, then i'll just buy direct from him, as we talked in the email.

I didn't expect it with the mask, and didn't know about it til I opened the box on delivery day, so I was originally planning to use the neckbrace I got from JediJeff.
As far as I can tell, JediJeff's neckbrace will work better on the Northglass helmet, then on the rubies. Just because of the differences in the masks. Depending on how you wanted to do it, I can see two ways to set it up, and no neck flare, or helmet riding high to deal with. [:D]

wolverine, its cool, if you say the jeff brace fits it real good, then i wont worry bout that. i'll just unbolt it off the rubies, and make the holes on the mask and bolt it on that one. i can switch when i need to.

are the holes drilled already for the other brace? or the jeff brace? i just wondered if i will have to redrill holes for mine in it, or if there were some there, that mightm if lucky, line up with mine. im hoping within if not sooner, than 2 months i'll scrape it up for ya.

i still keep getting positive reviews from fellow 501st folk on my suit, and the pahsed vest i use, theyre fascinated with that possibilty for longer troop sessions, and really want to troop with me ASAP. dont know for sure, if theyre just being nice after reading what i posted at first, or if they really mean it for sure. i think they do, but again, could be smoke up my arse too!.

we'll see what happens after i get your NG lid and take shots and submit them.

gonna watch wrestlin in a half hour and get ta bed at 10. and get up at 3 in the morn. shower dress and head over to my dads, for him to drive us to airport. wifes gettin antsy a bit, nerves and all, im calm as a cucumber. i'll be a wreck tho when we get off in cancun and deal with the customs crap.

im at least, gonna try for some snorkelin, and aztec ruins tours, maybe the waterpark, and maybe on the snorklein, a tour trip out to a reef for it. i got all the camera batts al charged up. i'll use the camcorder till we get there. i'll shoot some footage from the window if i can.

we'll end up gettin there and to the hotel around 3 i think, so first days kinda shot, i figured we'd go to the beach that evening, and rest, from not much rest before hand, lol

the hit it hard and fast the next day, tours and such. maybe wander in a bar, and get mauled by girls gone wild, lol watch ivy waylay some local chica from puttin her hands on me,

kiddin, i statred to sand a bit on the shins, theyre not too pretty, not like what the pics showed. lots of small gelcoat flaws. a definate sand, and prime, and paint deal. but they will look great after i paint them. help me out here guys, i used some automotive 1000 grit on it right now, cuz i didnt want to sand too deep in the gelcoat, will that be enough for the primer and paint to stick good, or will i need to use a rougher grade for the primer, and then use the 1000 on the primer for the gloss?

and do-clo, what the name of that primer sand/fill stuff? i think thats what i need for this. and name of gloss black paint you reccommend? i wanna do it right the first time.

There are holes in there, you maybe able to use with yer neckbrace, I'll have to dig the Rubies out, and take it off to see what you could do. I'm thinkin' there's two possible ways to go, so I'll look it over and have some pictures when you come back, then you can look them over. [8D]
I have to dig the Rubies out anyway, 'cause I promised my very poor friend (poorer than me [:D]) that he can have it, since I had no use for it anymore. [;)]

Lan You can use 400 grit sand paper on your shins without any fear, then I used dupli-color scratch fill primer and then sand it again until you get a smooth surface then I used dupli-color sealer primer as a base for the paint. The black paint I used was dupli-color T100 black. I used several coats of black sanding with 600 grit between coats, then I polished it to get a really good shine. Here are the pictures of the helmet I finished I decided the paint the nose silver before the pictures. It is hard to get a picture but they show the detail ok. When I get it ready for sale I will take some pictures outdoors.

I have learned a lot on this rework and the next one will go better, that is why I am thinking about doing a reveal with a rubies. I may even do a rubies for my helmet if the reveal kit is nice. I am still waiting for it but I have been promised that it will ship no later than tomorrow, I have a paypal dispute open on it so they are feeling the heat. Thanks for the kind words on the helmet, I feel that it doesn't look like a rubies any more.

When you get a chance drop it in the mail, I reused the rubies on this one because I didn't feel like buying a air filter to cut up for the screen. [:(] There are still a few flaws in the helemt but you could troop in this one without worry of some one saying that it is a bad helemt. The next one will be better[:D] I set the stock rubies you sent me beside this one and it was no comparrison.[:p]

Sith Bro it looks like you are going to have a tough time with the 501st and strange thing is that the guy that posted his picture in your thread (the three vaders) has many flaws. They don't seem to want any part of a Rubies costume at all, which I find strange as there are several in the 501st already, does this mean the old double standard, don't do as I do but as I tell you.[:(] You know what this means, I will have to take a shot at doing a total rework on a rubies to the point that they couldn't tell is was a rubies.[:p]
Then I could say by the way that is a rubies helmet.[:p] Xwing if you decide to do a Vader (hint, hint) at least we will have it all figured out for you.

With the concern of a bigger house, I am afraid that trying to start a costume that I may need to put a few grand in makes me darn nervous. I have bounced around Stormtrooper, Tie Pilot(I like that alot), and AT-AT driver since that just does not seem like it is done at all. I also REALLY like the MR EPIII clone helmet so that may be a thought but again it seems that the concern of investing a ton in to this and not get in to the groups that do all the stuff for the kids worries me since I would want to do that more the most of the other stuff.

XWing, it seems that only the Vaders have such a hard time, and thus the incumbant ones are hyper-critical of the new-comers. They feel slighted, as TK0585 states, "now you can do a Vader for $1500", the prices for these parts are dropping, and the Rubies parts are dirt cheap. I thought I took the wind out of his sails citing the differences in my Fiberglass "lid" to the high riding Plastic ones he, and his pals were pictured in. [:D]
Then he tried attacking the armor, and found it was "professionally" painted. Then he tries the cape, Then I have to point out the movie differences even the SithLord Detachment acknowledges, which he seems completely unaware of! [^][}:)][:D]
Guess he got tired of that, and gave up. [:D]
I didn't hear anymore crap out of him after posting my "Simmons" pictures [:D][}:)][^]
I will give it my best shot, even if I have to nip that prick in the nuts every step of the way. I think he's just pissed about losing Fayrve [:D][^][:D] hehehe

Do-Clo, I hear what yer saying Bro, My "Great Luck" is, I happen to be sandwiched in between 2 anal factions of the 501st, and I'm trying my luck with the lesser of the two evils. I say, and mean anal, not as a whole, but as far as Vader costuming is concerned.
The "Midwest" faction, which is the tri-state Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconcin, has all Stormtroopers in executive positions, where the "Bloodfin" garrison has a Vader in the membership liason (GML) position. Now that's an uphill battle.
When I heard from the GML from the Bloodfin garrison, he stated he wants like 4 pictures, 1 from behind, and all at least 3 mega-pixels.[:p]
Seth had asked me awhile back why I would be looking at fiberglass armor, that my man is why.
Even though I am quite happy with my armor's paint job, it's the over-all thin nature of the Rubies armor that they are so critical of, That, I think will be the sticking point. [:(] And with that replaced, I think problem solved. [^]

Seeing that my thread I started there has more views, and replies, then their NEW Vader member, (*Cough* BS) has, may start something. Since nobody said anything till I took on their incumbant nitpicker! [:D]

The more I look into the 501st in my area it looks like it will be a tough go for me also. The Tampa group doesn't list a vader, but they have a guy doing vader that got in as storm trooper. I wonder if his vader meets requirements?? Then there is the guy in kissemme that portrays himself as the kissemme semi offical vader. And with the attitude concerning rubies parts it will be even tougher as a ROTS, because they see rubies before they even ask.

Yeah, that's what bothered me mostly. At least the left one has the lights and stuff, but the helmets on the rest look like jokes. I don't know all the details of the various helmets, but THEY'RE TOO SMALL. Rubies... maybe.

I do think the price is all that irks them. It's not the base that bothers them it's just that the mods are now no longer on top of a expensive base.

Do-Clo, I think if I ever consider the 501st it will be for a Fett. It appeals to me more. I'm also short for a Vader but I could pull off the Fett because I'm stocky and broad shouldered.

Wolverine, just fight the urge to tell them off. What you are doing is the BEST way to go. The simple "Here's what I have, it fits their requirements" is the best and most diplomatic solution.

Xwing you might have the same problem that I have with fett armor, I got some fett fiberglass armor and it is some really nice work but the scale does not fit my chest right so I will use this armor as a pattern to make my own armor to acheivve the proper fit, nothing is easy Bro. I would like to do the 501st as a Vader but we shall see how it works out once I get closer to having a complete costume. I made my rubies ride lower in the back by filling the dome socket for the mask and it allows the helmet to sit right.

Looks like a legit DP helmet, remember, that Rubies got their molds from Don Post, so you can see from this helmet how features got distorted. [V]
This particular helmet/mask, has the reverse paint scheme, so it would have to be repainted. [:(] The helmet sets too high in back, which is where the Rubies got that trait from. [:(][V]

It is one of the rare Don Post fiberglass helmets alright but there is no way I would pay that much for it. It would need to be repainted but it could be made nice just to much money, you can get a nicer fiberglass for the same money or you can rework your rubies aand make it really nice, I am sure of that now.

Xwing you will have to change your sig from a xwing to a tie fighter then you can start wearing a lot of black and we could call you our apprentice until you get a costume together.

I understand why I got it cheap because someone started assembly on it and it is not right but it is nothing I can't fix. The placement of the parts is wrong on the center piece but it is an easy fix to cut then off and put them in their proper places. I guess I will be doing some serious study on the reveal helmet. I still might do a rubies reveal[:p]

I have all 8 vent squares plus the dental expanders and all the little bits and pieces. I have been studying and collecting some pictures of the reveal dome to help with correcting the parts placement and where things are mounted on the mask. Your are correct it will be a major under taking to convert a rubies to a reveal, but the more helmets that I study the more confident in my work I become. Some of the work is pure crap and I don't say that to offend anyone but I am really picky.

Go ahead and send the pictures as any information is a help. The cost of the helmet is why I am thinking rubies for the conversion. If the fiberglass helmet wasn't such a POS then I would think about converting it but I will be happy to make it look right period. Wolverine when you got your kit from JediJeff did it have the pieces already glued to the center dome piece, I was just looking at the the picture you posted and the placement is the same as the one I have.

Just think Lan is laying on the beach right about now, like an old hound dog laying out in the sun[:p][:D][:p]

They claim the make up is expensive for darth maul. The costume is pretty complicated and I would really like to have that costume make up or not, I think it is a cool costume.

When I looked in to doing an accurate Maul I was surprised that there was more to it then what it appears. The makeup and headpiece aren't somthin' you just pick up anywhere either. Like you Do-Clo I was thinking of doing a Maul like character or maybe a Dark Jedi thing off of his outfit.

I just won the extra set of shoulder bells for the chest armor so now I can mod them for ROTS and still have a ESB/ROTJ set that I can use if I screw up on the others.[:p]
