I'm putting together an ANH Obi-Wan and I'm wondering what to use for the section below the clamp - the bit that partsofsw describes as a "heatsink"
http://www.partsofsw.com/bensab.htm

I'm not convinced that it is a heatsink, BTW - it would be way more expensive to have the vanes run top-to-bottom like that and it makes no difference. It has to be a gear or something.....

Any ideas?

The rest is easy enough - even got an Armitage Shanks tap for the pommel.

its rubber i believe, i think someone on here made somthing similar by flipping a timing belt over. not too sure though.

The part is actually off of a gun of some sort. It was at the end of the barrel. Iv seen people use the track around an extension piece and it looked good. Don't have any other ides then that tho.

i just looked it up, it was madcow who did a similar grip, but didnt disclose the material, erv then did his own custom one and used a flipped inside out timing belt to acheive a similar look.

I believe Madcow once said it was timing belt or something...

Whatever... be creative! Jonitus made his "gear" section with styrene, bondo and a lot of sanding.

The actual part is a booster off of a browning machine gun.

I've heard that said elsewhere but never with a pic of the actual part - I'm not convinced it is a gas recoil booster

1. it doesn't have vent holes
2. I've never seen a finned booster on any gun, never mind a Browning

Eat crow bucko! :P Look at the above.

It was only a year or two ago that the part was identified on the RPF. They also found the emitter then too. Every part except the exact transistors have been identified.

Short of an archives saber getting out I don't see that being identified by the pictures available, but EVERY thing else has been identified.
