Howdy one and all.
I've wound up here on my search to find / buy / make sabers that can be fought with.

I'm part of a LRP club (Live Role Play) that does a Star Wars based LRP, (Kinda SCA but for star wars), and want to get some decent looking sabers to use.

I have a MR Mace Windu (cos it was relatively cheap) but it seems a little too fragile for duelling (and I've since been told that duelling with a MR saber will lead to dull spots in the blade as the LEDs die. Kinda makes sense now.

Having spoken to a few guys who troop, they suggested Luxeon sabers (which I think the TCSS ones are from what I can tell). So I wound up here, and several other places tbh, but there's a nice looking comunity here so I figured I'd stay around and chat a while. :)

I do make various props for our LRP club (and others), but most of my weapon making experience is in foam weapons (what most LRP weapons are made of - for safety reasons).

So, how difficult (rate it from 1(easy) to 5 (needs a degree in engineering) to make a lightsaber using the parts from here?

Thanks

Rob

Hi,

I'd say you're looking at about 2/5 difficulty if you done any electronics at school.
Apparently the Larp weapons are harder to make due to the foam. If you can do them, you should be fine with sabers.

Oh, and they were right about MR saber black spots!

Cool, I didin't think making LRP weapons was that tough tbh.
I made the two swords in this pic (and the armour actually)

As well as the shield in this pic:

I also made this minigun copy (well rotary blaster cannon)

With spinning barrels.

(didn't actually post the pics as they're not sabers so not that relevant.)

In short I think a 2 on the electronics scale is a good thing. Thanks :D

How much do you guys spend on making your custom sabers?
(on average)

Thats a cool vid, I've not seen that one before.

Erm dark side - I have a slight liking of Maul, and a slight disliking of certain lightside ... whingers. ;)

(But lightside get cooler colors)

I'm your typical light side dude, I've tried 7 times while going through kotor 2 to do the dark side just to see what it's like and i couldn't bring myself to do it. When talking to a friend who is an expert on star wars games he told me that i had way too much of a sense of morality.

hehe
Never tried kotor, but in Jedi Academy I was definately dark side.
It's just so much fun to force grip someone then throw them from a high ledge or off a building.

I am currently in the process however of doing a spoof of anakin at the jedi temple starring myself lip-synching the song "another one bites the dust"

makeing a saber from the TCSS is prolly the easiest to do. even with electronics, you will have a blast with em.

are you a dark-sider nocturne? There will be NO killing of TCSS members, hehehhe. :)

For the record, I have never done any kind of live role playing. BOP was purely staged combat (visually pleasing, although pretty hard hitting), and the only other stuff I do thus far is sabre fencing where there is NO choreography.

I was a member of the SCA for several years (a long time ago), and we fought in full armor, hardcore. No pulled hits, you go all out.

Hehe, yeah I looked at the SCA a while back, but there's not much of it in the UK, and as a LRPer, I'm used to pulled blows (although we do on occasion wear full armour).
It's all good fun tho.

Welcome Noc,
You've come to the right place. The MHS system Tim sells is the ideal place to start.

Welcome and I am formerly a Live Steel Fighter so I understand, that is why I built my first 2 El Sabers to be able to duel after hours at the Ren Faire.
