View Full Version : Working with a Graflex

Ok, n00b posting here... *waits for lynching*

I have a Graflex hilt that I've been sitting on for a year or more, and would much rather prefer converting that into a LED saber. MR sabers are too shiny, fragile, and homogenized for my taste. But is it possible to cram all the necessary components into a regular Graflex (including room for a sound module)?

I must warn you, I'm utterly tech-deficient, and most of what you guys talk about just whizzes by over my head. I honestly wish somebody else could handle converting my saber--I don't trust myself to not destroy it--but...eh, that's all it is, a wish.

Eww... a pun that bad deserves a virtual tomato thrown at you or one of those foghorns with the wa, wa, waaaa.[:D]

Tim said he would at some point make a holder to replace the graflex camera electronics so I'd hold off until he does that. Once you have a holder it's no different than a sink tube. Plenty of room for whatever you want to put in there.[:)]

Yeah, thanks for being a nimrod. This is what I get for asking a question. Sad to say I was expecting it. *eye roll*

And considering what you've got there on your sig banner, xwingband, I should have known better than to look for help here...as a woman all I'll probably get here is ***ual harassment instead of genuine help.

Ummm... what did I do? I even said dbraxton's pun was pretty bad.

The sig is based on classic airplane nose art. It's the banner of the RP site I RP on which has many women members and the banner was in fact drawn by one of them.

Seems like you've got some issues. How could we even know you're a woman? You've posted twice never once saying in any obvious way you're a woman.

It's plenty off-base to say that too. Jedi Loreen (a woman who posts here and many other forum) is pretty much a legend for her EL tutorial.

I didn't want to come right out and wave the female banner because I know this is largely male territory and am more used to experiencing derrogatory treatment in places like this. I know there are superb women saber builders out there, but I don't know whether they're anywhere else besides theforce.net.

Being a woman AND a newbie gives me two strikes already.

this is why I hate society. and normally I dont rant about things, but wtf. and take it as you may, but i'd like you to read over this thread and when your done think if the term 'wtf' applies. And if I ever behaved in such a manner I should hope someone would reply with the exact same comment I give you. No preferential treatment here. I just cant stand people with your demeanor. Im regular at a few car forums too, and women go there too trying to find help, did their mechanic screw them, how can you fix this, etc. and believe it or not everyone there as well is more than happy to help. Sorry if i've offended anyone, but come on... grow up.

I fail to see how xwingband's banner flags him down as a chauvinist.

You are making way too many assumptions on here miss. No disrespect intended, but not every man in the world is evil. No one, at least not on these forums, ever made any comments about you being a woman. The only strike you are getting is coming on to these boards and totally disrespecting someone for doing absolutely nothing.

Back on topic, I remember seeing a thread where someone did make an LED powered Graflex Anakin saber. It was either here or on www.theforce.net's boards, you might want to check there.

I believe you are refering to tetmatek's saber (He's posted it a few times). He says it's a replica though. I'm not sure whether that means he used a Parks replica or a hardware replica he made himself.

LAN-ED-TUL just made one too where he mounted the blade holder below the S-curve. He got sound in it too.

hey don't pick on xwing! I made the joke, meaning no offense whatsoever. What difference does it make if you are a woman? none of us care. from the first line of your first post, "*waits for lynching*", it sounds like we might be able to handle it better than you can.
peace!

Mine is a replica that uses tooling that I bought from BISKIT on the jedi prop forum. I will be selling these kits soon. They will include the 2 tube sections and the clamp. Also included will be the clamp at top and flash eye with magnifier. They are in the works now. waiting on some raw material suppliers to get started. I've had tim make a couple of LED holders one is used in the pics i posted. i believe he'll be making some for the site(I'll need some more so i got my fingers crossed). since those pics i have changed the blade set screw to one more like the movies so i won't have that thing sticking out so far.

I use a MR sound board in these and i mean to tell u it is a tite fit for everything to fit. Most of the MR sabers i've stripped have that darn quick disconect. There is not room in the graflex(replica or real) for the quick disconnect which holds the clash sensor. I have been removing just the sensor and soldering it straight to the wires. For all those asking what wire goes where. Grey wire goes to the thinest connector on the sensor and the thickside goes to the purple wire. Then you can slide it in the board housing. Still works fine. Clash is activated properly when struck.

Hey,
I got a question...
I made my own graflex replica, the grips are made from Looney Toons car mat.
http://www.freewebs.com/genesis_sabers/ANH%20saber%20b.JPG
I glued the grips on with contact cement, it's good enough for show, but not to fight with. I can't find a 2 sided tape that works well enough. I hear talk of some 3M product...

Anyways - what works best and where can I get some?

Well alrighty...
http://www.freewebs.com/genesis_sabers/ANH%20saber%20a.JPG

The activation box is made from channel aluminum. I cut a couple of peices to reinforce the inside and cover up the ends. The clamp is merely sheet aluminum cut and then bent round. The lever is also sheet aluminum bent around and ground into shape with a grinding wheel. I don't have a propper bubble strip yet.
