Congratulations to all who finished their lightsabers on time to enter the contest! It's a good looking group, I wish I could have joined y'all in the fun.

I kinda got a bit ambitious and haven't gotten to making the insides of mine yet. Designing and blueprinting is coming along quite nicely though.

And I'm still working on it, so please have another contest next year! Hopefully it'll be done by then! ;)

Good Luck to everyone!

You guys are really making this hard for me to vote. Good luck to y'all, and all of you have done a really nice job on your sabers. And another contest next year would be fun, then I could join you guys.

So how does the contest work now without the different categories as far as prizes?

Forgetful Jedi Knight
07-10-2018, 06:36 PM
Based on things that have been decided in the past...

So, now that I have had time to go through everything, and more importantly download everything, due to the entries I got, there will be some small modifications to how this will work. Since there was not enough participation in a certain category, the categories have been "merged". The prize structure was also "modified". Instead of just First and Second place, there will now be a First Place Prize (still $200 gift certificate), a Second Place Prize ($100 gift certificate), and a Third Place Prize ($50. gift certificate). Given the situation, Tim and I think that this is "fair".

Well, the pure MHS have a hard row to hoe against the customs. The customs are freaking incredible! Great job guys! Wayne Gretzky said, "You can't score if you don't shoot." I've been shooting the whole game, and there is one heckofa goalie in net. I should have followed my own lottery advice! Its fun to see all the cool sabers, and I definitely recognize the styling in one of them, its always unique, but this time even better than last. Great job all! Everyone is a winner when you have an expensive flashlight illuminating a tube, and sounding as you strike down your true enemy! ;)

Not necessarily. A couple of the MHS builds are pretty good.

Do we find out who made these? I’m new to mhs and I’d love to ask the builders a few questions! I’m looking to start a custom prizm saber for myself but not very good at hilt design... or customizing.

Do you mean making a full hilt design with mhs pieces? Try the mhs builder... it’s linked up top of the forum page. You can try the different emitters(blade holders) bodies, extensions, adapters and pommels. Granted not every piece is on there but you can get a good idea of what you like the look of. The price will display in the top corner as well. Most of the time you can get a nice hilt from $80 and up.
Try that, and if you have questions about that, post in the mhs forum

No, unfortunately it isn’t an annual contest. Over the last number of years, the contests get run when I think I will have the time to run them (which doesn’t always happen).

OK. The contest is now officially OVER.

The winners are as follows:

3rd place: The Panther
2nd place: Regel
And the 1st place goes to... The Unnamed Saber.

I will be in touch in a day or two to the winners about collecting your prizes.

You are now free to post your builds.

To those who came up a bit short, better luck next time.

While it does sting, in my case, I lost a K3GR contest to one of my best friends, and a really cool, radical design that will never likely be replicated again, and likewise, I have a cool saber out of the deal, so there is that.

Here is your answer, Tom.

Onli-Won Kanomi

No Jediseth, the FX-S saber was the FX-Sabers "Alliance" hilt run years ago and wasn't part of a contest - the K3GR sabers and the associated contest were produced in extremely limited numbers for an 'invitation only' closed forum of 'old guard' sabersmiths from the early days of the saber hobby that no longer exists. I saw a K3GR1 saber for sale on FX-S last week which almost never happens as most were built as highly customized and 'personalized' labours of love as well as contest entries by the most 'elite' smiths in the saber hobby at the time. The lucky buyer will have a unique master's piece of saber Art as well as a piece of saber History.

And now THESE also unique sabers will also become part of History of the evolution of the saber hobby by virtue of. this contest; Congratulations! and BRAVO to. all the winners and participants!

Tom

Wow thank you Tom! I honestly don’t see myself in the same league as you skilled builders here... I just thought I had made a nice looking saber so what the heck?!
I don’t have a build log... just pics on my phone and a few on my Facebook page. I wish I’d been able to show off the soundfont I customized. It’s based on nextor but I reworked it to be a full Black Panther font.
I cut the shroud out with my Dremel, along with the “panther eye” shaped window. Metal mesh grill is used to hide the crystal when off.
The shroud once cut, was sent to dale of Shadowcrest for the amazing etch. I asked for the panther helmet to be front and center and helmet designs along the spine. I painted the body to match T’challas kinetic energy suit.

Here’s a link to hear the audio I did.
Thanks again everyone!

Who made Hai Ya and Resonat Victoria? Some awesome ideas on those two, such as the hose clamp instead of the typical graflex ring around the blade. And the holes in the blade holder style 25. I'm gonna have to borrow those ideas. :p

The Resonat Victoria was a my entry in lue of parts not arriving in time to finish the more exciting saber I had been planning (don't get me wrong -I love Resonat Victoria and consider it my 'personal' saber. But it was never intended to be flashy or exciting per se, just simple and elegant. Something carried by an average knight-level force user, not the sort of saber a full master would craft/carry). I'll try to remember to finally write up a post for it in the next few days and include a few pictures that didn't make it to the contest due to the rules on the number of pics.

The holes in the blade holder I drilled at roughly ("eyeballed" it) 45degree angles to allow a more moderate amount of light bleed (again I was going for a more subtle look) and that also allows the light to come through nicely when the blade plug is in (since the blade plug was made to end just below the actual holes). That particular blade holder actually makes the whole process pretty simple since the grooves machined in it by Tim are basically just asking to have holes drilled at their base.

I'm glad that idea helped you refine what you want to do in your own build and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. Good sabering!

-Congrats to the winners and all the contestants! Some real nice sabers posted. Choosing the one to cast my vote for was difficult.

Also, thanks again to FJK for running the contest. It was fun to get a chance to enter. I'm already looking forward to the next contest whenever that comes around.

Mine was Hai' Ya. I was waiting for someone to identify the hose clamp 8) It is secured by the screws of the bunny ears.

Congrats to all participants.

I'm gonna have to do some simple weathering to mine - I figure bowling the hilt down my driveway 5 times, painting the grip area, then some wet sanding would be a start, no?

Lol, that would give it a weathered look, very natural appearance. I’m an artist and I’ve kicked my painting across the driveway before or tossed them wet into the weeds.

Thank you Tim and Fjk for hosting this, all that you do for saber fans! I honestly feel that TCSS is THE backbone of the saber community and without it, the hobby would die. And for the record, I threw my Black Panther in here just because my wife suggested it. Many of the members here make ASTONISHING sabers and I know I kind of lucked out getting third... but either way, thanks to all and I’ll be more “on my game” next time!

Adding some black paint ( especially in the grenade section) would add lots more to the saber. Five times down the drive way would definitely give it a weathered look. About the hose clamp, I had one lying around and I was thinking where I could use it for a saber.

Then I saw this entry in the contest and I was like "why didn't I think about that before".

The etching on Panther is just gorgeous and with the Marvel theme it could sit nicely next to some of eastern57's work.
