Short story: Cool, yes. Easy, Heck no! Going to happen, no.

Longer explaination: You can't machine curves without great expense and machinery out the wazoo.

There are however ways to pull it off. All of them use existing sinktube or PVC pipes already curved. These can then mate with already existing parts to make a curved/angled saber.

i figured that much. im sad now. :( i wonder if there are sink tubes anywhere that will match somewhat with the lightsabers..... advice?

i thought i'd save him the trouble

Xwing got it. it is easy to do a curved saber with a little ingenuity. just get a U bend pipe and then cut it to the angle you want. then two of the MHS to 1.5 inch adapters and you're set

While I am not a big fan of the curved hilts, I have played around a little with doing some. Long story short, look for the vacuum pipe.

I am not a big fan of curved hilts either, I tried the Dooku and was no impressed, yes it is supposed to be ergonomically correct, jada, jada, jada.
But if you are truely serious about having a bent hilt check our your local Muffler or Fabrication shop, I am sure for a minor fee they could throw your sink pipe on there hydraulic bender and hook you up. 8)

If you get them over there, the HENRY brand vacuum cleaners have a nice curved piece at a sweet angle to attempt a curvey hilt. My one was starting to looking pretty sweet till I lost it moving house.

It'll set you back around £11 ($20ish) if you can get them. If not, ask a Brit to post you one. There's plenty of us on here!!!!

Rainbow vacuum wands also have a gentle, loverly bend that can be used for a curved hilt.

I got a good result with a curved peice of a drain trap pipe. It's smaller in diameter than sink tube, but I machined peices to fit it.

The drain trap came in 2 peices, both curved 90 degrees. I cut the curve of the longest peice to be what I wanted.

i enjoy curved hilts because they are perfect for blocking, especially low attacks. i personally like a longer straight hilt for two handed dueling, but curved are fun to mess around with. im sure once i get off my ass and actually look, ill find something

that saber looks really good. how did you get it threaded? or is it even threaded?

Madcow
03-12-2007, 06:44 PM
It's not threaded. The blade holder looks that way though. I plan to re-design that part depending on whether I keep it or sell it. The parts slide into each other and are secured with hidden set screws.

Well, if you do decide to sell it, do let us know.
I've been thinking about PMing you for a while over some of the hilts you've done. They're all so Cool!

Oh wow... why post this twice.

It amazes me the people that post 1941357901237 times here but don't read half the interesting topics. He detailed it in the other place you posted this.

I'm back at my parent's home in Wyoming this week introducing my girlfriend to them, and I happened to stop in to the local hardware store. I found 1" sch 80 45 degree bend electrical conduit is "almost" a perfect fit for the flared section of 1.25" sinktubes. A bit of sanding to make the PVC conduit undersized and I think it might make a decent basis for a curved saber.

Just to let you know.

Yes a hardware dooku saber would be awsome, then I can tell my friend how to make one.
